  • DEM EYEBROWS

  • Everything about this piece was stunning. What shook my soul the most was the background. The decayed remains of a once advanced society so casually, and thus mysteriously, ignored by what seems to be a 17th century English society which has managed to apply robotics to everyday trials. Blade Runner had a similair effect on me as I couldn't help wondering; what are all of the protagonists in this short film? Could they be machines that once served their creators.

  • I'm amazed how Umetsu directed this with alot of elements from life drawing and classic paintings

  • Damn shame the english dub isn't available on DVD.

  • awesome:)

  • I'm not gonna lie. I didn't see the meaning of this. Maybe it's the god awful subtitles. Thanks to mleliza3 for the explanation of the symbolism.

  • last:

    Ojiisan -in sub= Boss

Ojiisan in japanese meean GRAND FATHER!!!!

  • The is regret, industry is a big thing and to harm it or not bring advancement into being, then affects everyone; we see a loss of a new thing that was never brought into being. Japanese merges spirits, like catgirl, it really is a girl who has a cat; but once created the stories take a life of their own for the drama--do not harm the cat. Anyway, we see a loss of something, and we see regret.

  • The character designs and movement of the figures is really weird and off-putting. Intentionally?

  • e-eyebrow hair.....gahhhh

  • AHHH SHES COME BACK FOR HIS BRAINS!!!!!!!! jk actually this was kinda sad not gonna lie, that last scene gave met he chills haha

  • what an asshole

  • good, but I feel like I'm missing out on a lot with these horrid subs.

  • The subbing on this version is horrible. They didn't understand the language and just did literal translations. Fail.

  • Thanks for posting this! I remember watching it on the sci-fi channel when I was 10. I'm glad I was able to find/watch it again and have a better grasp on what it's about.

  • Google "anima," and hit "I'm feeling lucky " And you'll see why he spent his remaining years half dead.

  • @doxylamine THIS TAKES YOU TO WIKIPEDIA PAGE ON "anima"!! Did you mean anime???

  • The man lived his life deprived of any real sense of emotion (e.g. never knew his mother, distant from his family, etc.) He lives in a society of humans and machines. When he creates the girl, he realizes that she's capable of feeling and he destroys her out of fear of developing any emotional attachment; this incident remains in his consciousness. In his old age, her spirit comes to accompany him to the next existence. I'm pretty sure there's more, but that's all I can fit in this box.

  • Isn't there a part 4 to this anime??

  • Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music of this song?

  • fell in love with this in the early '90s. scifi channel used to show robot carnival like once a year. it was dubbed, she says,"I'm still waiting for my prince to rescue me from my solitude." still love it!-phoenix

  • she is not saying boss she is saying father - that is the wife!

  • This was a great short. I remember seeing this years ago, the first anime I'd ever seen. Thanks for sharing it.

  • there is a tear, every time I see this,,,is just a great Old anime,,

    Thanks,

  • from 3:00 to 5:50 should have been on the ost ,sadly its not.

  • This is such a GREAT short film. I remember watching this back in the early 90s. Beautiful, haunting, both the story and the music.

I just wish the subtitling here was up to par. I remember the dub being spectacular.

  • Yeah, actually the dub was pretty great for a early 90's Anime. The subtitling here is... spectacularly subpar. It really ruins what I remember of this sentimental film.

  • I am soooo thankfull youve posted this. I have looked for the name of this show for years now.

I remember this clip was shown on sifi around 1993? and im sooo happy to find the clip that made me turn to quality amine.
