Wow!!! Awesome job!!! My friend and I are doing a cover to this soon!!!! We are doing Celtic Woman's version though :) We are doing it on our channel Celticangelssing1. Great Job!
Just as I was thinking, this song might turn out to be completely uncover-able you prove otherwise - impressive work; it's very nice to have a different voice for Orinoco Flow sometimes now :)
Thank You Thank You !!! At last, someone has managed to get it perfect. 10 *s . I can understand the amount of work that goes into arranging the best piece of music in the world . Again, Thank you. Benji.
wow! really well done with the vocals! I've done my own version of the song (vocals/instruments and everything!), if you'd mind having a listen maybe? I'd be interested to know how you went about creating all the harmonies/high female parts.Have you used any harmonizer effects, pitchshifting or autotuning? ..and are some of the backing vocals done on a keyboard? some of the high vocals sound very feminine and alot like the original! Also, is the backing track from the original Enya song? Thanks
@tobibarnet Hi, thx for your comment. I haven´t used any harmonizer. Did you? I´ve listened to your version, which is very impressive. Well done. There´s a lot of harmonies and high notes as well. I´ve done it the Enya way I think. Just sing the same part in different octaves and harmonize to that. I have a wide vocal range, so it´s not a big deal doing the high pitched parts. And when I missed a note here and there, I just corrected the pitch of that part manually(don´t tell anyone^^)
@Earlboone Thanks! I think I did it the same way as you! Sometimes I've been tempted to correct the odd note if it's been out of tune, but for this particular song, I just decided to re-sing anything that wasn't right! Did you double track/record multiple takes for each part? In the verses I double tracked panned the parts so there's 6 parts there, I think. With the backing vocals, I did them 4 times - all together, there are some places where there are about 30 vocals at once! :D
@tobibarnet Hey :-) mhh I´m not sure if I get you right. I didn´t copy any vocal tracks, I tried at first but it just doesn´t sound the same way as doing every take again and again. Seems we did it prtty much the same way. I´ve recorded the main melody a few times on low and high octave and then the same with the harmony and then panned everything and of course a little reverb. So I´m at 20 to 40 voices like you^^
@Earlboone Ah, sorry, that's what I was trying to say :D like, all the parts on mine are different - so there are sometimes 30 or so different vocal parts. I copied the whole group of vocals in the chorus/backing vocals and used those for all the other choruses - I didnt really want to do the 'sail away' bit, loadsss of times through the whole song :D haha
@Earlboone Yeah! I was trying to decide whether she would have had the technology back then, to copy parts easily.. but then I just copied it any way because no one would really notice or care whether They had ALL been recorded, or just one - copied n pasted :D Oh, I think Ive got that harp sound now! Sounds much better - thanks for the help! xD
@tobibarnet No problem. How did you do the harp notes?I´ve slowed down the original song and tried to get every single note and sort of painted them into reason . quite difficult , cause the notes are coming pretty fast^^,but I think I got it almost right now. I think Enya used the Juno 60 for these harp things. I´m working on my Caribbean Blue arrangement at the moment. It´s even more difficult because the whole song is based on those swirling arpeggios and it´s driving me crazy to get it right
@Earlboone I played in the arpeggios roughly, and quantized all the notes - then I did the same thing:slowed it down/listened to tiny sections of it, and got all the obvious notes in. For some of the notes that were nearly impossible to get, I just took a guess as to where they would sound best! I was thinking of doing Caribbean Blue as well! If I'm feeling up to it in the next week or so I might try it. Those arpeggios/reversed harp sounds in the intro have kind of put me off a bit! XD
@tobibarnet Which software do you use for the vocal recording? I use Magix Music Studio 2008. Your version has a better overall sound quality. I don´t really have a clue of mixing and mastering. The backing track is made by myself with a software called reason4 and the original roland d-50 pizzagogo patch that Enya used for Orinoco Flow.
@Earlboone I use Cubase 4. I used a Rode condenser mic for all the vocals but didn't really EQ them much. Alot of the high end 'air' sound, comes from the reverb, especially on the d-50 sound (it sounds quite boring without reverb!). I did most of the instrumental through Reason4, but the harp was through a DX7 type vst. Is the harp sound on yours done using the D-50 sounds? Which preset did you use, or did you make it in reason yourself? I couldn't find the right sound :-/
@tobibarnet The arpeggio sound is a slightly tweaked default instrument of reason 4 called "Faerie Harp" It took me quite some time to get it like that. I think you have to have the right balance between reverb and delay. I can send you the song so you can load it in reason and look how I did it.
@tobibarnet ok one more thing^^, the ahhh´s and oooh´s in the backing track are mostly synth voices, partly blended with my layered voice before and after the "turn it up" part and at the very end of the song
@morbiusgreen Yes, everthing done myself. For a man I can reach from quite low to pretty high notes, wich is very helpfull, when doing this Enya choir stuff
