My wife is a first grade teacher. She plays this song each day when it is time for the kids to clean-up and get ready to go home. They love it. Really.
They were always playing this when I used to go and see Chelsea. Of course they had a greyhound track around the pitch then. If anyone scored at the Bovril End, they had to pass details down verbally as it was like watching tiny matchstick men from our end! Happy Days!
Whenever I try whistling this song down the pub and leaping about like he does, they threaten me with the Police. It just shows you, there is one rule for 1960's whistling pop stars and one rule for the rest of us.
Dude, Do you have the tab for this ........? This makes all those shred licks, sweep arpeggios, and tapping sound dated - like they came from the 80s or something. Oh wait they did - now only if all the youtube wanker shredders would realize this.
what really pisses me off is some of the stupid idiotic moronic comments people have put on about this if you dont like it then dont bother listening to it but most of us do enjoy listening so keep your pathetic comments to yourselves
ok it's a bit like watching thunderbirds doing the old grey whistle test but hey could that man do COOL. Catchy tune and so feel good it makes ya wanna do that dance. Fab posting.
@robertwiltshire It isn't crap ..it's a brilliant original song from the greatest era ever ..Music today is GARBAGE .I wouldn't trade this single tune for every single CD you own
@Recordbhoy I never said it was crap. I searched for it here because I wanted to hear it again. Perhaps if you take the time to read my comments a couple of times it might become clear what I was trying to say!
By the way I think you might just be envious of my extensive and diverse CD collection. Cheers.
BigEricHunt, you're right! - thank you. I thought this guy was John O'Neill (1926-1999); but instead he's Billy Moeller (1946-). Weird - 2 guys took full credit for writing the melody of this lyric-less song, even though it's clearly a pop version of the Pennsylvania Polka.
@LindaLooUK Save a seat for me then Linda -You will recognise me as I will be whistling this tune and wearing medals that I have not earned on my chest.
TV show music was always lip-synced back then (for best broadcast quality, versus a live mix). A lot of you have criticized this guy, but if you were hired to lipsync a whistling song on TV, could you do any better? This guy was age 40 at the time and I don't think anyone could have done better; he's quite an entertainer - that doesn't mean I like this :)
who remembers this song being used in a british t.v. ad the words were............... never wash up, never wash up,never wash up without brillo !!!!!!
@BigEricHunt I wonder what his medals are for - I guess dick-headiness, fuck-wizardry and being the world's biggest delusional fanny. On a lighter note he looks a bit like a young Jim Dale.
@Aggaluq The melody he's whistling is a pop version of the Pennsylvania Polka! Type "Pennsylvania Polka" in YouTube's search-for-videos box so you can hear the original.
@CheckAvai1abi1ity Thank you. I found the Pennsylvanian polka on youtube and recognized that song who was an popular pop song in Iceland, with an lyric on icelandic language, in 1950s-´60s. I Thougt it was Icelandic song, just a lttle bit like this one.

@catman5169 Kaiser Bill was the British nickname for Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, monarch at the time of the First World War. The late 60s saw a youth fashion for things of the early 20th century (hence Sgt Pepper). Batman presumably doesn't refer to the superhero, but to the job title, a batman was a soldier given the job of personal assistant to a superior officer.
@angriffeins - you can legally (in the UK) wear real medals bought from a shop, even if you did not earn them - for decorative purposes so long as you do not intend to deceive people into thinking they are legit. The Beatles did it on Sgt Peppers album for example.
Related to this, while I doubt these are legit, there are medals awarded simply for seeing military service, long service (e.g. UK Meritorious Service Medal (MSM)) or for simply being wounded in battle (US purple heart for example).
Immediately feel like downloading this as perfect example of... a thing.. of its time... Urge suppressed - save bytes. It exists as conceptual art to me now. I've got it. ... Again.

Our 60's band tried to cover the track but 1) It's hard to whistle down an SM58 and 2) we couldn't get as far as the harmonised bit without laughing...and you try whistling with the giggles, impossible.
Kaiser Bill was Kaiser Wilhem II, the last Emporer of Germany and King of Prussia. I am assuming "batman" in this case refers to the aide assigned to commissioned officers. Kaiser Bill's batman would have been his military aide/bodyguard during the first world war....assuming he actually had one.
I think there used to be a boutique in the Kings Rd called Kaiser Bill's batman, but as I'm a senile old wreck Icould be wrong.
