@algebraparish The only thing I could think of would be that you have some sort of effect enabled on your recording software. Maybe try recording with a different program and see if it changes.
@deionj718 Yeah I'm not sure if that software will work unless your sound card is made by Realtek. Sorry I couldn't help :(
One other suggestion I have is to try using a program called Virtual Audio Cable. It's a little hard to get set up, but just look up some tutorials on Youtube and you can probably figure it out.
@Cancani123 You might have select Set as Default sound device on accident. Make sure your default device is your speakers or headset, depending on what you use.
i don't have it i tryed downloading realtek high defintion audio and i did and when i right click the volume icon and it says''realtek high definition audio'' and i have both options enabled ''show disabled devices and ''show disconnected devices'' please someone help me i really need it like in a week or less please. i will tell u how much info i know. okay i have a sony vaio laptop with vista home premium o.p. if any one can help i will greatly appreciate it and will subscribe
@thehaloassassin1 One of the previous comments on this video says "Some computers disabled stereo mix. Sony says that VAIO computers can't get stereo mix anymore because people were illegally recording music off their computers. So that really sucks, having EVERY sound card have stereo mix disabled." It could just be that you have a Sony and there is no possible way to do this with it. Don't give up though. Keep searching through the video tutorials.
Thank you very much. I use to record from my speakers using Sound Recorder, but for some reason it stopped working recently. I didn't know that audacity was capable of doing this. Big thanks!
@AJNabih If you are using an old version of Audacity it may not have Stereo Mix functionality. A beta version could cause some problems as well. The version I am using is 1.2.6.
@TheMaverickZero If you use something like Mixcraft you could make two tracks and record stereo on one while recording your mic on another. I'm not sure if you can do things like Skype on two different inputs. I was actually thinking about this last night.
@SubjectDeltaOfficial There is probably a good chance that something is turned off if you used to be able to. Make sure you have Stereo Mix selected in Audacity and that your Stereo Mix is enabled and working in Windows sound preferences.
@raiden38574 well you know when you record and you see that red bar going up and down from the sound? well i dont see it anymore. do you think thats why?
Ok. So i Have set everything up. However When i record I am getting a loop coming through my speakers which gets exponentially worse the longer i leave it. Any suggestions?
I figured it out. Basically, I have to completely disable my external audio interface (UA-25EX) than enable the stock Realtek speakers as an out put and the Realtek mixer as the input (or recording device).
Works fine now. I'm still not sure why it didn;t work with my external interface..
first of all i'd like to thank u for such helpful realistic video i've really suffered to find a video that describes a way that really works so way to go raiden38574 after i record .....the recorded file sounds lower than the original and the treble is way higher than the original sound n the bass is lower so is there a way to overcome that ? thanks alot =)
Some of the effects you mentioned can be edited in Audacity, but I haven't messed with them much. I would say you would be better with a better recording program if you plan on changing the mix.
Anyway, if you look on Audacity under Effects at the top, there is a list of options like "Bass Boost" that might help you.
Yeah that's what I was reading. The same process is achievable with one cable though, so there is really no way to stop people from recording computer sounds. It just sucks that they have to be so annoying about it.
After doing some more research, it seems that if one of these methods doesn't work, it is mostly likely your sound card. I have a friend who has a brand new Dell xps 1300 and his computer doesn't have the ability to record from stereo mix. If you are really needing to record sound, your best bet is probably a sound card that supports stereo mix.
Hi, I have a problem. Instead of "Stereo Mix", I have "WaveOut Mix" (Conexant High Definition Audio), and it says it is currently unavailable, even after I enable it. I have a laptop btw.
WaveOut Mix is basically the same as Stereo Mix. I'm not sure what the problem is if you enabled it in your recording settings. You might want to try something other than Audacity and see if that program will let you use WaveOut Mix. Other than that I'm not really sure what to tell you.
Thanks, but I fixed it anyway. I had to set the WaveOut Mix as the default recording device in Windows, then just record like normal in Audacity (with the recording device set as Microsoft Sound Mapper).
My guess is that it probably isn't an issue with the sound drivers being out of date if you have Vista because Vista automatically checks for updates.
But just to rule it out, go to Start - Control panel - Hardware and sound - Device manager - Scroll down to Sound, video and game controllers - right click on your sound card and choose update driver software.
If that isn't the problem it could be that your sound card just doesn't support stereo mix.
Hmmmm.... SO! What happens when Stero Mix isn't there? :@

DanskeSange 2 years ago
I'm not sure what you are talking about. A list is on the Sound option that opens from your task bar or is it in Audacity?
raiden38574 2 years ago
in checked show disabled stuff and nothing new happened

That means your sound card most likely does not support stereo mix. If you have a realtek sound card, you can try the link in the more info section.

It sounds like you may have the playback feature on Audacity turned on.
Edit -> Preferences -> Software Playthrough
Make sure that is UNCHECKED.
Other than that, I don't know what would be causing it.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME HERE?
I can't get it to work. I'm on an HP vista 64-bit OS.
I have a Realtek line in, Realtek microphone, my UA-25EX (interface/sound card), and Stereo mix realtek .
I follow all your steps except when you set your playback device to Realtek I have to set mine to my interface (UA-25EX).
I keep trying, but i can't figure out how to do it. What am i doing wrong?
daeser1 2 years ago
You shouldn't change your playpack device. They thing you need to change is the device under the recording area.
raiden38574 2 years ago
I figured it out. Basically, I have to completely disable my external audio interface (UA-25EX) than enable the stock Realtek speakers as an out put and the Realtek mixer as the input (or recording device).
