Eddie Bravo's signature submission move "The Twister" is an old school catch wrestling move called the "guillotine." It's all just grappling folks, the difference in the subtleties of emphasis and rules.
not 1 single bit of that is catch wrestling, its straigth bjj (shawn williams guard) and 10th planet.Neil has no grade in bjj as far as i know ,hes a lebell/gokor black belt.
@GHRepresent neil melanson does a lot of jits on his back, he tells us if im on the bottom i'll play the game(looking for sweeps and submissions) if im on the top my mindset is to smash him alot of his top game especially the shoulder ride he brings in is his catch wrestling
@Xaymot the concpet of guard is a pure bjj component of grappling , before bjj everybody wanted to be on top and that was it. Yes i will agree with you to some extent when it comes to the top game. There are only so may ways to control a human body, so for sure techniques from other grapplinng styles will overlap. But the philosphy of guard game and efficient movement from top or bottom is a jiujisu concept. Jiujitsu has taken what was before and turned up to a whole other level.
@GHRepresent the guard existed in judo prior to BJJ but i know what you are saying. the advancement and development of the guard would not be what it is today without BJJ and the Gracies. I agree with most of your points but the point of my statement was that BJJ and Catch are just sub components of grappling. to split hairs between who created what and re-named what, is ridiculous. it's all grappling.
@GHRepresent lad ,let me correct you,the guard existed in some jap jitsu styles hundreds of years ago and featured big time in kodokan judo in the first half of the 1900s.BJJ emphasises it more than either judo or sambo or catch and is stronger in that department.
