wow the way these guys move - so ... amazingly fluid, gingerly, delicate, fun, alive, everything! the music and the movement makes me so happy - this music does something healing
This is very similar to the Cuban guaguanco..It is also very similar to the Mexican Danza de Diablo (the intruments used and the dancing. The Danza de Diablo of Mexico is also danced in the Dominican Republic ( the dance and mask are the same but the name of this dance is called something other than the dance of the devil or Danza de diablo) The rythems, dance and instruments were introduced to Mexico during the colonial Mexico African slave trade which is shared throughout Latin America.
Mande Simbonw! There is a wealth of wisdom, history and tradition in the words, music and movement of these men. Thank you for posting this. You've done something very valuable by posting this.
wonderful....one can hear the Delta blues in this, the music and the plaintive voices....I can hear Skip James, Robert Johnson...thank you, African people from the motherland as well as the diaspora here in the US, for the great riches you have given this country, and the world.
...not only that, but you can hear the echos of Homer, of Beowulf, of Chaucer, of the Gawain poet.
Griots are living embodiments of humanity's need for the singer-storyteller and his/her wisdom about the gods, history, and how to live life in a world of mysteries and strange fortune. It doesn't matter what culture, all have their Griots (and the Griots offer a view that is probably closer to pre-history than most Western oral poets might).
Idiot!!! The rreason we have hip hop, r&b and even rock & roll which is white r&b is due to this...our ancestors!!! What music school did Jay-Z attend, Ray Charles, L'il Richard or Michael Jackson!!!
Its hard to listen to any of this without getting emotional as most people from the african diaspora must feel [im anglo-african] when you are cut off from your roots there is a fracture there that never goes away.

@lorax121323
well, you wouldn't have the blues if it wasn't for influence of griot music.
