Every player has two steps when they are taking regular field goals but when driving you have an extra step called the lauching step.Dont believe me go look it up. The rule hasnt been here forever but its in the rule book. So if you can tell Kobe takes exactly two steps then he jumps which is the launch. Lebron takes around 3 shuffle steps then launches to achieve maximum air.
