This music one of Henry Mancini's masterpieces. If you don't know him, look up his music. He wrote the scores for many movies, but this is his finest, IMHO. Beautiful, haunting, heartbreaking. I love this movie to this day.

Good movie.... This is just a movie, but it makes you think about what is going on in the Catholic Church right now. When this movie/TV series came out, the pedophilia problem in the Church was not being thrown around in the news. I think the part of the priest is the part of a pedophile in the Church.

@pontedupre007 I disagree on account of father Ralph being a pedophile although I do agree that pedophilia is a major problem in the catholic church. To me his love for Meggie as a child was completely different than the love it grew into as she reached adulthood. When she was little, he felt the need to protect her and care for her as if he was her father. Then she grew up and it turned into something more. Their souls are infinitely connected. It's really beautiful, actually :)

I also agree, he was like a Uncle to her as a child, he helped her get an education for awhile and protected her from being beaten by the nuns. She needed to be around kids her age. Sad she was pulled out by her mean aunt. To be fair, Meggie did hit on him first as a young adult. Although he could have put up stronger resistance if he wanted to.

Great tv mini-series. Also the great casting of classic veteran movie actresses of Jean Simmons & Barbara Stanwyck added so much to it as well. Of course the leads were incredibly cast well. I cry and cry when I watch this movie. It is also what so many gay people feel when they are just coming of age. "Forbidden" love. Rejection. Desire. Keeping secrets.

I never saw the TV miniseries but I've read the book and it broke my heart, the way the author describes the characters and the way Meggie loved Ralph and Raph loved Meggie was so touching, when they make love for the first time I cried because I wanted Ralph to love Meggie so much and he did but his ambition always won :(... and when Dane died it was so sad...
