  • No kidding - Speed's goal is my favourite Leeds goal. Great player and pro. And this game is one of my faves too.

  • @fendweller Agreed. But he was at fault on their goal.

  • RIP Gary, you will forever be in our hearts MOT

  • i was there that day

  • This game is my most enduring memory of Gary Speed. Flamboyant locks, flamboyant strike. Teaching in school, the following day there were tributes from Rochdale schoolboys who didn't like Leeds much saying what an amazing comeback it was, while the girls were chatting about Speed's looks.

Funnily enough that was about as flamboyant as Gary got, as he got a reputation afterwards for solid, reliable midfield and defensive play. A very sad day... awesome guy.

  • @walkingbyfaith777 What a fantastic post mate.

  • R.I.P Gary

  • RIP Gary.

  • RIP <3

  • Rip speed

  • RIP

  • RIP What a player

  • R.I.P... Great man, great player, great manager

  • RIP Gary Speed

  • One of the greatest Leeds performances over the last 20 years.. they never stopped battering Stuttgart from start to finish and the game could of been 10-1.. they were excellent. The Leeds team was a pleasure to watch and it was hard to single any one man out in the Championship winning season. By winning the league we took part in the European Cup the following season.. Great Times!!

  • what a dive at 1:58! VfB Stuttgart!

  • And shame on ITV for not showing this match live!!!

  • I was in the kop that night and remember the groan as everyone thought Cantona's touch was taking the ball over the bar, then the place went mental!!

  • Totally agree with Alunator... Chappy was unstoppable and Buchwald had a torrid time against Big Lee...

  • gotta give leeds a bit of credit for this they wiped the floor with the nazis! and got through due to a one leg replay

  • I remember this game! What a night. Leeds ripped the Germans apart, although 4.1 wasn't enough to win the tie...Or so we thought!! 4.4 on aggregate ... Out on away goals, then later on that night, for once, Leeds get some luck!! Stuttgart bought on a sub, which broke a fifa rule on how many foreign players a team could use.. Bring back that rule!! We still had to replay them... In Barcelona?

Yes! Rangers did the business on us... Good times for Leeds!

  • A great champions league game that was! I remember being in the kop for this one & boy we came so so close to dumping em out! The leeds fans sucked 2 of these goals into the net. MOT!

  • Is that the same LEEDS UTD team that got humped by the mighty GLASGOW RANGERS , home and away!!!

YES , i think it was.....

  • @sqwertery sure is, this is coming from a shit team in a shit league! how many do you have again??? 10 teams and your most prolific player joins the championship. i rest my case!!

  • @cutupboys .HA HA , thats the funny bit , shit team , shit league , but still good enough to hump the English champions , i rest my case !!

  • Lets make Leeds uniteds biggest facebook group!!!!!

search for that group on facebook

  • Chappie made a complete mug of the best centre half in Germany that night .. I said this at the time, HE shoulda gone to Euro 92 instead of Fatty Barnes

  • @dimgwalltameiben really depends on what colour shirt you wear every week though. The media want Gary Neville and Owen at the World Cup.

    Says it all really

  • Would be interesting to view the first and the third Leg.

  • It's horrible seeing Eric in that shirt.

Not many Leeds supporters turned up that night did they?

  • Brill - I'd given up hope of finding this. One of my favourite Leeds games. And the first goal is one of my faves as well. What a peach. Is the replay at the Nou Camp here as well? Carl Shutt!

  • leeds would have beat any team in the world that night ..we farkin ruled ..we love u leeds we do ...

  • that 1st goal was unbelievable

  • I remember the TV commentator said "we will remember this game for years". Sure enough, it has been almost 17 years to date! After a 3-0 first leg, Leeds had to press hard. The highlights actually don't do justice to this game, which was filled with non stop actions and any footage shorter than 90 min would have failed to capture.

  • If I recall, ITV did not show this game live as they thought it was game over after the 3nil from the first leg.

  • United!

  • OOOOhhh Yea! What a game it was! Lee Chapman was the man!!!

  • Noticed how Chapman did not seem that excited with Cantona after Eric banged in the 3rd goal?
