  • law and cain are both superb in it. fucking awesome!

  • that was one of the worst films ive ever seen,, honest some of the acting on laws part was crap, stupid film,, just saying

  • loved jude law in it !! and I think it was great !!

  • i want to act in this play sooo bad!

  • The only reason I like this version is because Michael Caine doesn't die in this one.

  • awesome!!!! the whole thing, but the last part was so fucking wtf, so much so that i say FUCKK multiple times...

  • massive crap

  • Thank you very much for hosting!

  • wuut!

thanks part of this sene, i couldn't watch xD

a shame xD i thought they were like gonna hang out like friends xD lol

just gonna switch back to the telly now :P

  • Goodbye darling!

  • the original was really good but this remake was shit!!

  • I loved the ending. Too bad Jude's dead....

  • I have seen the original wich is different, ofcourse. At first, I did not like the remake. On second thought, it is fascinating in its own right,

  • Cane always brilliant...nothing will beat the perfect original though...

  • @waywardize

Actually better than most of any films.

  • I liked the different conception and twists in this one, but I liked the original better. It was classier. The conflict between the low-born and the aristocrat had its charm, and the characters were more defined.

But as I said, I really liked this one. Special touch and interesting turn with the gay plot. However, I missed the "killing the Finnish girl" game and the more elegant Milo.

  • i didn't see the point of the original movie, nor of this remake. i just saw it because i've seen the director (Kenneth Branagh) and actors (Sir Michael Caine and Jude Law) in other films, so i thought this one might be worth it. the first hour, i more or less understood (and like the dialogue, which was juicy and sharp), but the final 30 minutes after the inspector reveals himself, i thought "Oh shit, what the fuck...?" i saw it twice and still have the same opinion as i did on my first viewng.

  • to be quite honest, i saw the original film because i like Sir Laurence Olivier (a truly great Shakespearean actor), Michael Caine and Joseph Mankewicz (the genius behind "All About Eve"), but i didn't care for it (ie. i hated it), and this remake manages to redeem itself, but alas, only for the first hour. the final 30 minutes i was like, "What the fuck is going on?" I like Kenneth Branagh, but this is the first film where i'm like "Mediocre effort from a heretofore excellent director."

  • also, why do they never show Maggie?

  • @BibleJoker2Face who says it's Maggie?

  • @totallyirreverent, whatever the name of Wyke's wife is. i can't remember. why don't they show her?

  • @BibleJoker2Face The name's right, I was just implying that the person driving the car could be anyone.

  • i thought the first hour of this movie was brilliant, with sharply written dialogue, and excellent acting, whereas the final 30 minutes after the inspector reveals himself were just...weird. why did they go all faggoty? also, i thought the end of this one would be Milo killing Wyke (earlier, Wyke asks Milo "What sort of parts do you play?" Milo chuckles, and says, "Killers, mostly"; that's why i thought this remake would end differently). i just saw this cause i like Branagh, Law and Caine.

  • An interesting remake... the last scene - proposition and all - was the 3rd game (like in the 1972 film, though a different game) where Milo beats Andrew so Andrew shoots him. The gay thing seemed a bit contrived as part of Andrew's character though, not quite convincing enough. Jude Law had access to better disguises than Caine in the original, but Caine's made-up voice was better... and altogether the remake is more brutal and less sleuth-like. For our times?

  • @MrNaryal jude laws charactor was going to tell the wife about the game

  • NASTY NASTY NASTY NASTY!

  • are they gay?

  • still want more of this.... i wanted to see what she and he said after ..... did he kill her? and commit suicide?........

  • @ilikeyouallot In what has suddenly become my personal canon, this last bit was all just another ridiculous little game, as they play off each other so well with only a few seconds to prepare. Milo decided he wanted to be rid of the woman and stay, so he riled Andrew up enough to try and shoot him- But it was another blank. The woman comes in, utterly panics over it and leaves, Milo comes to(He probably didn't mean to fall) and after Andrew throttles him a bit, they leave the country together!

  • @arkanewolf thanks.

  • Oh, my - I LOVE this movie, it's the best I've ever -- oh, God, I want to make love with it. xPPP <3

Awesome. Jude Law, Micheal Caine - priceless. Amazing actors.

  • 3:35 They aren't acting.

    And getting paid for it.

  • thanks for uploading--thanks a lot, in all seriousness--but this was an abysmal sack of crap. I need to go watch the original right away. utterly pointless nonsensical garbage with zero of the intelligent drama of the play and the original. it's so bad it's almost a parody. the sexual tease at the end... whose freaking idea was that? what happened to the real, amazing ending? I hope to god anthony schaffer never saw this, I dunno if he's still around, but... puke.

    still, thank you for uploading

  • @RedFox742 I tend to agree with your opinion. The original Olivier/Caine performance is on a completely different plane, thanks to the infinitely superior Schaffer screenplay. Also I think Branagh's cloak and dagger direction is merely irritating compared to Mankiewicz's brilliance in the original. I didn't quite puke watching this rip-off, but I'm not going to risk watching it a second time - ever.

  • This homosexual nonsense is a bit too much to take.

  • brilliant, twisted yes, you need to be quite on your feet to keep hold of the plot. but that makes it brilliant

  • the 1972 version of this was far superior.

  • too much of wicked playing makes people go insane

and at the end you just faulse your true feelings or the other cann't believe you.,crazy movie

    loved it!!

  • Bloody fantastic. A little weak in the final act, plot wise, but the acting is top notch as well as the directing.

  • The old guy was humiliated in the end, which is worse than death.

  • odd

  • What a grubby story. I'm sorry I watched it.

  • I have to say the best scene is the one where Jude Law is begging for his life. Its just so good.

  • In my opinion this cannot compete with the original.. not in the slightest..

If you can, look up the original and give it a chance :) it is a absolutely brilliant performace of caine as milo ^^

  • @silentlamb21 yeh i think the original was better, but i do like this version

  • good lord why does Law always die in almost every freakin movie. -.- it's depressing

  • @S4BJProductions i recommend The Holiday, All the King's Men, and My Blueberry Nights if you wanna see him live to the end of a film.

  • great movie, jude played the heck out of his role right to the end. moral is never deny rich and powerful men what they want lol

  • Now i`ve seen both films and there both dam good the first one was slightly better though, that can be said about most remakes

  • didnt the first game was the serious that one shot was coincidentally a blank ? i didnt get it...

  • damn my english. i mean that the first game was serious and that blank was coincidence. the old men in the end only forfilled what he had planned all the time ? didnt get it. im too stupid for that amigous mindblow movies. though this one was kinda special. very rare and good story. genious idea.

  • great idea but the story is too damn short. great movie apart from that is bit wierd the whole thing is about too men fighting over women who is playing them both

  • Jude Law in this movie looks like Roy Dupuis in Being at home with Claude.

  • innocent bystandard? really?xD lol

  • i fancy this movie. unique,mind-tricker, and intrigued until the end. its really suit what the producer said, "A rare film that would have been better longer."

  • i did not understand the 3rd game. what was each character trying to achieve? i know they were trying to see hows smarter but how?

  • @leftstanding I think that it was Milo's third game. I think that Wyke was serious and Milo played into it so that he could make him feel crappy. I think he might have overdone it just a tad, I doubt he meant to get himself killed....

  • I like this movie a lot and its all due to their acting and the awesome scene where Jude was unmasking himselve. That was cool. :]

  • Your favourite scene was the one with special effects? I think you missed the point.

  • the way he played his character in that part gave me shivers, thats all.

  • Quite nice actually, but I haven't seen the original.

  • to be exact that plays at 6:40 and onwards.??

  • I have the soundtrack of the movie,if you want the song you can send me your e-mail and I'll send it to you :)

  • does anybody have the music file of the track at the end that plays, the theme sleuth??

  • isn't 3:10 gay subtex?

  • @ShakespeareHamlet Just go to the 2nd movt, of Beethoven's 7th symphony!

  • XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

    VERRRUYYY NIICE))XDDDDD

    FUNY)))

    Great actors)))))

  • I have to say. I'm not exactly sure how I should react to this version of the film. I don't think it's necessarily horrible, I liked the acting, but the way it ended leaves me silent. I definitely like the ending of the original better, but there are certain things that i like about this one. I don't know, kind of confusing, these mixed feelings. I liked them both. That's all, I guess.

  • i loved the first half, but the second one wasn't good

  • Hmm, I posted my first comment before watching the end. The film is still pretty good, but this last 7 mins brings it down.

There's no tension, the clevereness of the original is lost... It's a great shame.... What could have been quite a good film is now a bit pants.... A shame.

  • The original is a lot better than this, without a doubt, but this is still pretty good.

  • the origional was much better this ruined it i must say

  • Travesty. People who thought this was a "great movie" were sadly misguided. Watch the original. This is tripe.

  • I still haven't seen the original version, but I have to say:I am already in love with this film! Michail Cain is brilliant, absolutly brilliant! One of the best actors! Jude Law is also great.

    Greetings from Hungary!

  • thank you very much for uploading :))

    o love this movie!

i don;t know why people keep comparing this to the old version, it's not like this is a remake. it's an adaptation.

    anyways, great characters. :))

  • wowie tht was some film ;) jude law seems to be more thn just a gorgeous looking guy xDD

  • try the original instead.

  • great movie..^

  • I love the ending song...

  • Jude Law was a dead pro in this film...

  • For the obnoxious critics, I'd just like to point out, it's not as if this was a remake. It's a second adaption, penned by the fellow who wrote the original play, if I remember correctly, purposefully taken in a drastically different direction, and the two adaptions stand BESIDE each other, not against each other. That's why having Caine in both films, but in opposite roles, is so entertaining, IMHO.

  • Actually, the original was written by Anthony Shaffer, this version was adapted by Harold Pinter.

  • I thought it was a very good film, kept me interested the whole time. But I am disapointed that they didnt show what Maggie looked like..???leaves me wondering???

  • Its meant to be a story with only 2 actors, which makes it all the more interesting!

especially when you find out Jude Law is the police inspector

  • just the long shot of michael caine is great. i think he just wanted to play around with milo tindle but he knew that milo was winning so he shot him, just because he didn't want him to win. i like to think the whole gay thing was real and that andrew actually had feelings, but i reckon he was just playing.

  • My thoughts exactly. heh

  • @gothicgeezer333 Caine was setting milo up to back up his burglary story. The whole gay thing was just to distract him and get him to put the gun down.

  • this is a masterpiece. one of my alltime favourites

  • Do I need to "repeat" that this version is pure shit. Go home and watch the old good times '72 Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier version.

  • New doesn't automatically equal shit. I've not seen the old one so I can't compare it but; this film is anything but shit.

  • you MUST watch it... the original Sleuth is one of my favorites. The chemistry is better between Olivier and Caine then Caine and Law

  • Watch the '72 version and then comment on this film. This version left out some of the best parts like when Tindle reveals that he has killed Marguerite (Maggie); the whole thing about Wyke and his games; and the great slapstick as well as subtle comedy relief present in the original. Not to mention a vastly superior ending and overall just better acting and better script in the '72 version.

  • Sorry, correction! Tindle reveals that he kills Thea, Wyke's misstress in the original.

  • i'm so confused! were they both fags!? and why did he shoot him? someone explain!

  • It was all fun and games. Until the quiz master began to lose.

  • wth... this seems so random... These guys play a mind game and why the heck does Caine shoot Law in the end? And what's with the wife coming back...

  • the blond guy is Jade... something, right?

is he gay? this movie shows him so... special.

    LOVE IT!

  • Sad that in the end he was not gay...

    really sad...

  • The first one is not only better, it's lots, lots, lots, lots better.

  • I do like the first half of the film more than the second.

  • damn good film. Kenneth Branagh is THE BEST.

  • I loved it, a great mind game from begining to end.But I suppose it will go over a lot of peoples' heads.

    thanks for the upload

  • i loved every minute. thanks for uploading.

  • You're welcome :)

    I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • great movie!!!! sad that most people have not seen this masterpiece, people prefer to watch fucking harry potter movies, people are fucked up

  • why do you keep on mentioning harry potter? do you have nothing better to say?

  • Because I hate his movies and movies like that one,we need more movies like sleuth, sad that most people prefer to watch fucking harry potter movies instead of this masterpiece, maybe you are 1 of them too,you prefer stupid movies like harry poter, right?

  • no, youve misjudged me. i dont like stupid movies and i only liked the last harry potter, although i didnt think the fourth one was bad. The movies i watch arent like 'twilight' and that shit i prefer older ones, so yeah, i do appreciate movies like sleuth.
