What really happens is in the beginning of the film he dies but you find out that it was a princess seeing into the future towards the end of the film when he is about to die she protects him with her powers causing her to be defenseless and when naruto wins the whole battle she says she needs to pass on her her power to the next princess (her daughter) and asks naruto to "help" her
