Why can't I hear this? I want to teach my grandchildren about the way things once were, but they cant hear this song. It is important to me that they understand our heritage and where they come from.

Although I am only 1/32 Cherokee, I have learned somewhat of my ancestry, and I am PROUD to call the Indian Nation a part of me. I have the original 45 of this from when I was 6 yrs old and have cherished it. Many will say the Black Man had it bad... the Indians had it worse. I was in 8th grade when my teacher brought this lp to class to teach us lyrical value in music. She played this song and the one after, "The shape of things to come" -- I went straight to the store and bought this album after school and it remains one of my favorites to this day!

@fcdrre1 I think I learned in history that the "native" Americans came here via the Berring Straits from Asia. Doesn't this make them immigrants? Let's not forget what their ancestors did to the white women and children as long as we are looking back. It's only fair to look at both sides. If we can just accept it as part of history and move on, everyone will be better off. The past is in the past...we can't do anything about it. We can only strive to make our country a better place for everyone.

Cherokee indian here, want peace and not revenge. this song is about persecusion which may need to be heard. But what needs to be heard is our opportunity for life which has a right to be heard. no revenge, but an opportunity to contrubute to life as we know it.

The violence has moved on to other targets. The goal has been greed, gold, and it's still there. The Cherokee tried to full the laws of the white man, but the white man said justice only applied to white people. It's still that way.

I am a proud Cherokee descendant! My great great great grandfather, Tah-ne-yun-ta, walked the Trail of Tears and lived to tell about it. My maternal grandfather was Cherokee and my other grandfather was 1/8 Cherokee also. I am proud of my heritage!

Hey, Harley --- thumbs up... my great grandmother was full blooded cherokee, too and that didn't mean anything until I got older and heard this song... my whole attitude changed about these people and a great respect set in at the tender age of 14. I have a lot of Cherokee ancestry. Three of my 16 great-great grandparents were Cherokee. My great great grandfather, Johnson Ketcher, was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian who was the first Indian to serve as a US Deputy Marshall. His father, Tah-ne-yun-ta, was a Trail of Tears survivor.
