  • how did you make that so called treadmill and terminal to see what's going on?

pls reply i'm a little green on some areas thx

  • Érdekes

  • my 8930g =)

  • what makes PS3 better for running Linux? Or is this just for shits and giggles?

  • @WunderDoob Well, for now, it seems to be the latter. However, there are two things that make the PS3 favorable for running linux. A. It's getting cheaper now. Maybe not worth it's weight in gold for, say, gaming, but there's more than enough of a comprehensive amount of compilers out there, that one could port over alot of Linux titles to the system. Wine would probably be difficult to implement, as it only runs on x86 hardware, unless Darwine has gotten anywhere close yet to emulating x86.

  • @AlbertHamik And B. It's possible that with AsbestOS, the PS3 Homebrew community could perfect that full GPU implementation support they'd been boasting about during the period in which OtherOS was still around. Or is that already in motion? Dunno, but there's some of my reasoning why. Agree? Disagree?

  • @AlbertHamik EDIT: Oh, well I see that AsbestOS basically allows for RSX access now, so whatever I said about GPU access is null-and-void, here. I happily await this projects growth, and hope Sony doesn't try to quash it's development. Those bastards.

  • thanks for all your hard work, i appreciate it

  • @marcan42 will it ever be possible to have 1 unified boot where we can use linux and game os with a single boot?like could we boot into gameos linux/asbestos,and have full 3d rsx chip&spe/spu access support, then be able to launch a ps3 game from either BR or usb hdd backup right from the linux desktop, then exit out of the game back to asbestos linux?or any way to do something similar in a convient way like that?

  • Duuuude you have a PBO(Patriot Box Office)!!! I love that little device, I'm even using it right now to watch a movie! I love that little linux powerhouse.

The way I could tell is you have the remote next to your monitor.

Also... I want linux on my ps3 again.

  • u know i really lost interest in installing linux on ps3 after they removed otherOS like somebody cut off your dick like you wanna masterbate but you cant you kno that feelin?

  • @theuncanspan Nope but I'm sure you would

  • @randomshinichi what you mean? >3

  • LOL @ comments you pieces of shits

  • Is it possible to use the CPU to rip a movie very fast under Linux on the PS3 with AsbestOS?

If yes, PS3 could be a nice machine if some CPU-required work was needed.

  • @RunOnTuxPower

Anything Linux can do, PS3 can do as long as you get the bootloader working.

The only limitation really is the 256MB of RAM, even though it's extremely quick XRAM, it's still a small amount to have. Hence not many heavy apps that work on desktop Linux will work on PS3.

  • neat laptop

  • marcan man your the greatest

  • thx for this video man, really nice to see somebody actually explain everything about ps3 and linuxbooting, not just a video showcasing that it is possible :)

  • Linux is the best operating system in the world

  • thumbs up if you love linux more than windows

  • if you replace gameos with linux can you still play games?

  • hi man . thanks for share the tools. but i've got one problem.

I compiled the dbgcli. and when i run it ,he don't do anything , like it's blocked. Idk what's the problem

    i don't know what's happening.

  • @iLovtheosmonds

    Shut up faggot

  • How can I add support for USB Flash Drive boot devices into the boot loader? I remember reading that the boot loader currently only supports booting from Network File System but it also said that it would require you to compile your own kernel and boot loader because the USB driver is currently a module which I loaded after the kernel, I believe, where as it can boot fine from the network. I'm not very experienced with compiling the linux kernel itself so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • I have no idea what you are saying, but I wish I did. I've always wanted to learn tech better.

  • The 3 dislikes are from Sony employees

  • It just felt like Doc Brown was explaining how the Delorean can travel through time using trash. My mind was blown like "Whoa Doc!"

  • You should take up hip hop dude... your breath control is insane.

  • i dont see the irony of the ps2 keyboard

  • @adambou12 ps2 Keyboard on a PS3 .. The keyboard's connector uses the same letters "P" "S" and the same no. as "2" as the predecessor to the PS3 ... :P

  • You smart mother fucker :)

  • Okay I'm a little slow but after just seeing that with my own eyes I hope I'm pardoned

OtherOS uses 6 SPU's as the 7th SPU is used for the hypervisor (or so I'm told) and the 8th SPU is made redundant for yield purposes. Since you just hijacked the GAMEOS which uses all 7 SPU's have you just bypassed the hypervisor that is present in otheros so you have full access to the system hardware?

If so then that's one hell of an achievement. How would you port this to an X3Max device. Yellow dog linux?

  • @marcan42 I'm wondering how fast you can emerge things on that ps3

  • So whens the part when you take a breath in?

  • I don't know what he's saying, but am just impressed with his solved Rubix Cube. That shit is tough.

  • Simple Enough

  • @JdudeTutorials Gentoo...check out his tags, he also mentions it at 6:44 and 6:50

  • Comment removed

  • After about 5 seconds, I could tell that we would get along :)

  • What version of Linux are you using?

  • @JdudeTutorials From the looks of it, I think he coded himself one, He's a very talented hacker/cracker.

  • I tried this with my gopertunator with the biosyner on the computer on the wii and I had the computer turn into a wii. Sorry people but I have no idea what you are saying.

  • что это значит ?

  • PLEASE add support for dualbooting.

  • perhaps it can be booted from an external USB hdd instead of streamed over ethernet?

  • well i ran the freeboot from the xenon xex menu 2.7 and i rebooted into XeLL on the cygnose360 and it went to 8498

  • Which dev board do you use? I see it has ethernet on there...

and can we run linux off of an external USB device?

  • Comment removed

  • 00:1F:A7:80:7F:63 xD

  • "It just works.... when you do all this shit, why? cause we're not steve jobs. :D

  • This man is my hero.

  • Comment removed

  • Is this some sort of network boot? I say this as it reminds me of WDS type software port? Looks like you've booted linux via an ethernet cable attached to your ps3! Is this right?

  • Really great to see this project growing so rapidly, your work is appreciated.

You should rename the video to "Netbooting /g/entoo on a PS3" ;p

  • is it possible to port OS's that are PPC Compatible like MAC OS X?

BTW This is awesome enough, this may be the only reason im getting the PS3, linux with full hw support.. Too bad that the jtag xbox 360 only supports linux halfway :( please come to 360 scene !

  • Awesome Marcan. This should enable a lot of homebrew apps onto the PS3 I assume.

  • can you rewrite the game boot procedures? and bypass any checks for 3.50 and 3.42? thanks :)

  • You are the best .

    Hi from greece

  • "you can use external memory to store the bulk of the code" I missed that bit the first time I watched it! There is hope for us 32kb'ers after all!

  • Thank you marcan42. Keep up the good work !

  • Lol to all of the noobs talkin about how he speaks. He is obviously very excited to be releasing this to the public! he is the first to get this done. My hat goes off to him and i hope this can lead to full linux INSTALL on 3.41 ps3 internal or external hard drvie., and maybe ability to boot to AsbestOS from PS3 recovery mode.

  • @demologik

yes, he is really excited and he is from Spain, they usually speak fast and i am not even considering than English is his second language

  • @demologik Well spoken

  • isn't musclenerd working on this?

  • @ 7:17 "I'm an idiot"

Man, you're a lot of things, but you're way from from being "an idiot".

Thanks for the amazing work, when I heard about the exploit I went and bought a PS3 hoping for this moment someone will be add the ability to load linux into it, because I didn't bought the fat PS3 and when the slip came it, it already didn't had any ability to run Linux - till now :)

  • What model is your laptop? It looks nice.

    But besides that, nice job!

  • @lilhottieboy09

    It's a Acer Aspire 8930, I have the same one :D

  • ps3 users with firmware 3.15 should update or not?

  • @ps2yea Download the update ONLY 3.41 off the interent put in on a external flash drive and update to 3.41

  • @ps2yea Not beyond 3.41 if you want to unlock full functionality.

  • @ps2yea Why?

  • Great Work! Do you think it is possible to port other OS's such as Windows 7 to the PS3? Thank you for this great contribution again!

  • @TheCatfishBlues , Not possible the cpu instructions for a cell cpu is different from x86... and 64 bit cpus.... you may be able to run windows via qemu however I think a tea spoon would run windows better.

  • @openstandards Apple used PowerPC hardware in their Macs until a few years ago.

Don't think you'll be able to run OS X on a Cell though. Natively anyways, Mac-on-Linux added 64-bit host support a few months ago.

  • @TheCatfishBlues What would be the purpose of porting Win7 to this platform? I assume the IBM version of W2K Pro would run... not sure if anyone still has this one however, should be in a shelf from 2000 if you had it in your office.

GRACIAS MARCAN.

  • Good job man!

  • Would this stuff work with iPhone 3G?

  • Amazing work man!

    Well done :)

  • This is genius work. Well done!

  • When running Linux in "Game OS" mode, does this give you access to the hardware which is restricted in "Other OS" mode?

  • @shaurz Yes, it does.

  • @shaurz Yes, It gives access to 2x CPU, 7x SPU, and 1x GPU w/RSX

  • Would be awesome if we can put windows on the PS3 :)

  • @Johnparrr2 It wouldn't run nativity. windows requires an x86 based cpu where as the ps3 has a ppc based cpu. So You could only run it in virtualization like you could when the other os feature was still available.

  • @efaustus9 What about an old version of Mac-OS?

  • @MrTEH08 I assume Tiger should be able to run if netkas finds time to play around with it...

  • @Johnparrr2 No, this is an awesome piece of hardware, putting a clumsy OS on awesome hardware still makes the OS clumsy.

  • Could you recommend some good USB Dev boards with 64kb+ flash, aside from the Teensy++? I'm using the Dingoo to JB my PS3 atm but it only has support from one dev and I'm still stuck on Hermes v3 payload.

  • cool! congratulations!

Why don't you hide your MAC?

PD: Que bien hablas inglés xD

  • awesome work man !!!

  • Victory!!!!

  • is network cable mandatory or can it be done via wifi as well?

  • Thanks a lot !

$ONY , all your base are belong to us !

    Haha

  • Any chance of a 32kb version someday? I got stuck with a Teensy 2.0 :(

  • can i just use a normal USB drive??

  • @wdrpsp19 no

  • so you've got it running Gentoo right? /g/ is going to have a field day on this one but good job

  • Will the TI-84+ exploit support 64k and work with this?

  • Lol..game os destroyed :D

  • ROfl for those idiots who flaming how him talk, him know is hard explain in lang for those trolls, lechers can understand how it works.

  • Freaken awesome !! thanx Marcan!! and a solid middle finger still going to you Sony shame on you for removing linux..

  • Finally a blog update 50 years later and its something awesome. Good job Marcan.

  • this guy sounds like he sniffed a couple of lines of crank before he made the video

  • Is exactly 64kb of memory needed? Could I use a Micropendous3? It has 60kb flash available, 4kb is used by the bootloader.

  • @TheThirk You need about 40kB of free storage after the USB exploit code and descriptors (currently), so it should be enough.

  • according to what I just read you dont need any PC programs to allow this to work...but you do?

  • ...whats up with the laptop?...I dont get it...

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? this is way over my head and you talk like you did some blow and drank a 2 liter of Mountain Dew before hitting the record button.

  • you are one clever fella

keep up the good work :)

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • To use 3d in linux, just to basic calls to the RSX. Since you destroyed the GameOS in memory, you should have access to the RSX completely (maybe another kernel patch is needed) and be able to make calls from linux.

  • Really good work man, that actually quite inspiring

  • Thats just awesome!! Keep on developing!

  • i want mine just hacked so i can save games to my hd and run emulators... outside of that, i dont care to run linux.

  • @redspade04 So why post here?

  • @aeiounix musclenerd lol

  • thumbs up if musclenerd sent you here

  • F*ing epic!

Cannot wait! Hopefully it looks as good from the screens of the desktop :D

  • Love it!

    Great stuff, man.
