  • I was handed a choak collar cause Lucy pulls. She has learned so much, but still pulls when walked. Choak collar did no good. And I worry about neck injury, or at least soreness. I just bought a harness that attaches to the leash at the chest. Instant success.

  • Yes it would absolutely work for your St. Bernard.

  • my dog is a big st. bernard around 3 years old. would a gentle leader collar work for him?...he is not obedient and tugs and chases dogs while we walk.

  • My Personal favorite of all these collars is the gentle leader head collar or Halti. They are easy to use, the dog doesnt pull and it does not cause discomfort as much as a choke or prong collar does. My dog fought the halti at first but now its a dream!

  • I am a fan of the gentle leader collar, and have used it with my Staffordshire Bull Terrier with much success. However, I now have a pug, who we adopted as an adult and has issues with walks that would likely be corrected with the use of the same, unfortunately it's impossible... for obvious reasons... lol

Any suggestions on an alternative to the gentle leader that would work with the pugs physiology? We presently walk him with a regular halter.

  • they do have anti-pull harnesses that would do well for a pug. The harness doesn't hurt the dog, it just makes him uncomfortable to pull. The idea is to get the dog to pay attention to you while walking, if he starts to walk ahead, turn and go in the opposite direction, sooner or later he's going to start looking at you when walking, praise the dog when he does that. Ignore the dog when he gets ahead, just go in the opposite direction and praise when he corrects himself.

  • I use this collar and it really helps my dog to stop pulling. Except my collar is called a Halti, which I think is just a brand from Germany.

However, unlike other collars it does seem to bother her wearing it but just as an irriation. She often tries to dive to the ground and rub her face to try and get it off.

Also it the part that goes over her nose can push up underneath the eyes if she pulls which can make her squint.

What about pinch collars? Are they the same as prong?

  • your pup wanted to talk too hahaha :)

  • my dogs 7 years old and still pulls and attacks other dogs, idk what else to do.

  • Hey im surprised you didnt mention the martingale collar.I use it on my golden and i find its the best and safest collar.

  • don't you mean the dog is getting positive punishment with a prong/choke?

  • Yes, you are correct. It is positive punishment which results in a negative experience.

  • What about short nosed breeds?

  • wow good to see you back i haven't see video from your awhile
