My Dad used to use those Klein tools. I always thought I'd have a set myself but the high price has held me back. I assumed that part of the cost was the extra electrical protection for the user. The handle is rubber, partially insulating the user from the metal shaft. These days with a mix of metric and SAE it's twice as many tools, especially considering that new equipment seems so much more compact, so you need close space accessories as well.
if you ever worked on things like daq. machines or ice machines... you'll more than likely need some STUBBY magnetic nutdrivers. and the mutli-tool??? well KLIENs makes an 11-1(two versions of it)... comes in handy :)
@DrZarkloff sweet... i love the fact that i get to work on a little bit of everything that heats, cools or pumps. makes it fun, instead of just doing plain ol' residential constantly.
@DrZarkloff and speaking of beverage coolers. in this mexican restaurant, the mexicans tried to pick the ice of the indoor coil with a butcher knife and poked a hole in the coil's midsection. not a fun repair for the day. also on the kitchen unit... and i failed to notice, having walked by it a few times... but they had actually covered the return with foil, to try and hold it in place i guess where some screws fell out. omg!!! it was kinda weird to laugh and be mad at the same time though.
got too have gearwrenches, that squarestanding tool bag, my hs36 fieldpiece and thermo, my 10.8 compact drills and my insulated screwdrivers and MAGNETIC only nutdrivers
Most HVAC manufacturers still use standard measures on their equipment so it does confuse me a little when I run into equipment that's been machined in metric measures.
great video DR Z I past my CFC with universal status thanx you advice always pays off im now going for my low pressure boiler certi. building up my tools just got the new black max gauges they were a gift to myself for passing cfc thanx i tell all the students here in ohio to watch your video so you have a big fan base up here keep up the ggreat work

There's really no substitute for doing the work hands-on. You get that kind of training in the classroom.

Do you prefer metric or standard measures? Is most HVAC equipment in standard or metric measures?
drelbez 2 years ago
Most HVAC manufacturers still use standard measures on their equipment so it does confuse me a little when I run into equipment that's been machined in metric measures.

Thanks. A fellow worker recently showed me his head lamp. I sure looks like a must have for an attic rat.

Nice vid. Doc. I am saving up for some tools now. May head down to Aireco or R. E Michaels this weekend.
Take care yourelf.
Oh. Do you recommend any place we can get basic tools?
vietflyingeagle 2 years ago
HVAC supply stores are the best to be sure that you can get tools with magnetic tips.
DrZarkloff 2 years ago
Hi Jim. I really like the long shank nut driver with the magnetic tip advice. Also, the small vice-grips really are nice to have too. Good video.
