Fact. Countries with strict gun control laws have MUCH lower crime, homicide, violent crime and incarceration rates. eg: AUS, NZL GBR (UK)... Why would/could this possibly be? There are greater offence rates because there are now more offences that you can be nicked for. Search "Britain records 18% fall in gun deaths" and link to some independent reviews. Remember, government policy is not brought in by people who do not care or have poor advice from university research. It's their job to get it right.

@amyhuk That's rubbish. The UK has one of the lowest gun-homicide rates in the world. The numbers are so low, it is difficult to plot trends. There are greater offence rates because there are now more offences that you can be nicked for. Search "Britain records 18% fall in gun deaths" and link to some independent reviews. Remember, government policy is not brought in by people who do not care or have poor advice from university research. It's their job to get it right.

@amyhuk My "Home Office" stats go to 2006-7 (59 gun deaths). There were 49 in 2005-6. I do have that 2009 was a twenty year low for homicides. So it seems your argument is invalid or weak. Get Google going! Do YOU want to own a firearm? Would you feel safer if everyone in your workplace carried one concealed on their person?

@MGoose66 first off i already own several firearms. secondly the home office only reports gun deaths IF A CONVICTION was achieved. if you are killed by a gun but nobody was convicted for it. they dont count it. also they split up the number of deaths. england and wales get one scotland another and northern ireland another. that would be like spliting the american death count into four distinct districts and then using only the lowest one for ALL of the country

Utopian gun control laws only disarm the law abiding people, the criminals will get their guns anyway, just as they get theirs drugs, etc. The pathway to hell is paved with good intentions. If you want more crime, support gun control. If you want less crime get more law abiding people trained in self defense, gun safety and to own guns.

Countries with strictly enforced gun control laws (and better social justice) have MUCH lower crime, homicide, violent crime and incarceration rates. eg: AUS, NZL GBR (UK)... Why would/could this possibly be? In fact, in many cases their police do not even carry guns. It's not Rocket Science. But then, we are talking about God fearing Americans here... Compare the US to other countries of similar "richness" (GDP per capita, etc.) and you'll find NZ, AUS, UK, Norway etc... all have much lower homicide rates AND tighter gun control. In NZ, UK etc, police don't even carry guns. In the US, you are 4 times more likely to be murdered, regardless of the method, but most of those murders are with guns. Guns kill people, so of course it's the problem.

If you think it's only about size, then compare Texas to them, or include China and Japan - either way, significantly more gun crime in the US. As for protective clothing - these are NOT weapons. They're no different to hard hats, helmets & seatbelts, none of which kill people but all of which are becoming 'more compulsory' in sensible jurisdictions. The GBH rate in the UK is falling!!
