Belafonte had a strong love of Creole culture. Because of his fame, his "Haiti Cherie" in the late 50s offered the world one of the first musical insights into Haitian culture. Ironic, given his own roots. I hadn't heard this recording - thanks for sharing!
Even if you do not understand the words, the vocabulary...you cannot miss the emotional intensity of this song. I am so glad some of the people who understand this have written here.
If Yhaweh, Jha or Jesus is of whom you speak, please put it in terms those of us unfamiliar can understand. If you speak in your cultist terms, we cannot follow.
Be Blessed Belafonte for such rendition of such SACRED SONG. This is the SONG of the TRIBE OF LEVY in the land of captivity which will inevitably turn the Heart of THE MOST YHWH back to HIS CHOSEN PEOPLE. Haiti, May YHWH bless You & keep You; May YHWH make HIS FACE shien upon YOU & be gracious to You; May YHWH lift up HIS Countenance upon YOU & Give YOU SHALOM. Be Blessed & Stay Blessed in Your redemption revealed as YHWHOSHUA.

The album has been long out-of-print and was never re-issued on CD. Your best bet would be ebay.com.
