Every state in the union has at least 2 health insurance companies. Now I'm not saying this is necessarily the most desirable situation, but it's not exactly a "monopoly." If you think that the Federal Government does not have the "Right" (God Given) to make you purchase a product that you do not want to purchase AND you live in the Great State of Ohio, please sign the Healthcare Freedom Ammendment so we can get it on the ballot. I fail to understand why anyone would want to skuttle healfth care reform. It is purely a case of I got mine or so I think and to hell with everybody else. It is juvenile to think that everyone can afford health insurance and there is little doubt that insurance companies are in the busy to make money and lots of it and that is reflected in the huge salaries and bonuses paid the executives.
There should be some kind of reform I agree but not a takeover. If they get rid of the public policy, penalties for employers who decline the govt run plan, no tax increases and no demands on insurance companies to cover pre existing except as it is now, in group plans..then I support it. I feel for people who go without since we did when we were first married. You work hard, get an education and you do not have that problem.

Considering my spinal fusion twice was over 200k and It cost us $500 out of pocket. Plus they paid for the medication and disability for 18 months after..I would have to say it was just fine. There is no way based on my premium they have made money off me and now that I'm fine wow, I didn't get canceled. Only issue I had was they inquired to see if it was work related. Aetna is great!

For ex: person went to ER b/c of shortness of breath, turns out it was nothing some O2 wouldnt cure. for that, the hospital sends a bill of $2000 (true story). you think this is fair? insurance negotiated it to $1000, and paid $800, person had to pay $200. again, this is just for O2 and pulse &BP. i think you can agree something is wrong here.
Well, why does it cost so much? How many people were invovled in just giving that O2? The doc had to write the order, the nurse had to tell an MA and the MA had to administer it. Someone had to stock the O2 and the O2 needed to be bought. Hospital itself has taxes and utility costs. All inherent in that system. Adding more complexity to it by creating 111 more agencies to get that service paid for will not make HC cheaper. It may increase access, but not efficiency or quality.

Its because other countries have nationalized health care and the government caps costs. Many of those governments write a budget for health care which leads to rationing of care. We have that here its call,"not being able to afford it." But i feel much more comfortable being able to go to the government when other entities are corrupt. Having a public option would not make the prices drop and the economy improve. Whats the one thing that an insurance company cannot function without that the government can? Profit. The insurance companies have no chance if such a public option would exist; they would go out of business. We would have a monopoly, and everybody would have sub-par care. All other countries with socialized medicine have this problem.

I was raised in Britain under the National Health system. I am part of one of the healthiest generations ever. No system is ever perfect, but the NHS is far better than the commercial rip-off health insurance in the USA. Kaiser is the closest thing to good health care in the USA

America is number one in responsiveness due to the WHO. Number one. And you know what responsiveness is defined as? Patient outcomes and satisfaction. The people who are getting health care are being treated by the best. Medicare is a GOVERNMENT health care program and yes it has some problems but before it was passed seniors paid more than 20% of their incomes for health insurance. The same incredible arguments (often complete lies) against a public option were the exact same arguments against Medicare in 1965. The difference is that then reasonable moderates from both parties who knew that only the most self-righteous and immature never learn to compromise got together and passed it and LBJ signed it.

I hold capitalism and privitization high. Government has done a very poor job running other businesses, such as the postal service. They have no reason to make their service high quality because they have no threat of failure. Compeition is necessary, and government invovlement will strip us of that.

My father-in-law just died of cancer 2 months ago. He had Blue Cross Blue Shield. He reached his lifetime limit and now my mother-in-law is stuck with over 50,000 in hospital bills. I'm the victim of a government run health care system in Canada. We have both a public system which covers most people, and a private one that takes our rights away and abuses us to death. You have the same in the U.S. Workers Compensation insurance is employer funded private insurance protecting the employer. not the injured worker. The "new" bill once again exposes the fat cat agenda of the current Republican Party.

How else do you think the top two CEOs of health insurance companies make +24 million a year, more in a week than two average American workers (nurses) make in a year and more in a month than 10 primary care doctors make in a year. Every state in the union has at least 2 health insurance companies. Now I'm not saying this is necessarily the most desirable situation, but it's not exactly a "monopoly." this is a good video, and there is indeed a multibillion dollar industry dedicated to ripping off patients (providing services/surgeries/drugs that are unnecessary or too costly), but BCBS is mainly NON-profit. they have a for-profit subsidiary which makes up a tiny percentage of their total memebership.
its not just the insurance companies, its also the greed of the doctors, hospital administrators and patients who knowingly rip off the system at everybody else's expense.

I work my butt off just to live from paycheck to paycheck so I need all the free quality health care I can get. I had a *very* good high paying job. I got very ill. I lost my job before I got better. Then I lost my health insurance. I came very close to dying because of this on several occasions before I finally managed to get the treatment I needed,.
Just because you have a good paying job and health insurance does *not* necessarily mean your a** is covered.
When you pay out the nose and then the insurance is not there when you need it the most the system does not work.

All healthcare plans will be available and included will be the Public option choice and it's not available to all. You can keep your Aetna and let others choose what works best for them. If they get rid of the public policy, penalties for employers who decline the govt run plan, no tax increases and no demands on insurance companies to cover pre existing except as it is now, in group plans..then I support it. I love my private insurance with Aetna..Open Access. They have covered everything that was requested with minimal problems. I am just glad to see this universal health care bill will never get thru the Senate. You want free health care? move! You like your health care now? call and email your elected officials like we have over and over and over telling them to vote no, or they will be gone in 2010. Considering my spinal fusion twice was over 200k and It cost us $500 out of pocket. Plus they paid for the medication and disability for 18 months after..I would have to say it was just fine. Zero complaints. stop watching so much MSNBC and people making all insurance companies out to be the enemy. There is no way based on my premium they have made money off me and now that I'm fine wow, I didn't get canceled. Only issue I had was they inquired to see if it was work related. Aetna is great!

They cant deny you coverage no matter what if you go into a group plan so really learn a bit more before you guess. I saw a magazine where a couple spent 6 k per year on prescription meds. The drugs they were taking were anti-HTN meds, cholesterol reduces, DM TII and beta blockers. The most common reason for gastric reflux disease is either a sliding hernia or diet. Caffeine, chocolate, smoking, eating too much or anything that upsets the stomach will and can cause GERD. The constitution says I own my own labor. The Government does not and since Obama has to raise taxes to pay for HC its unconstitutional.

("Providing for the common defence and general welfare" seems like healthcare isn't a big stretch of the imagination).

There isn't.
The only clause in the Constitution that talked about "Labour" was superseded by the 13th amendment freeing the slaves.
The 3rd and 4th amendments deal with property rights, but they're about housing of soldiers and government searches and seizures. The 16th explicitly authorizes income taxes if sections 8 and 9 were somehow unclear.
Before arguing that something is unconstitutional you might try reading the document first.

Also, my point was that with 33 million people being diabetic and most of our health care going toward fixing peoples unhealthy choices allows us to do one of two things; First, We can let people pay for themselves or we can have the taxer payers foot the bill and regulate what they put in their bodies. You decide how much you want a institution that can put send you off to war or put you in prison to handle when and how you get life saving treatments.

Since we cant convince each other, perhaps we can find a common ground. 1st, thousands of ppl go to ER for things that require little serivce. For ex: person went to ER b/c of shortness of breath, turns out it was nothing some O2 wouldnt cure. for that, the hospital sends a bill of $2000 (true story). you think this is fair? insurance negotiated it to $1000, and paid $800, person had to pay $200. again, this is just for O2 and pulse &BP. i think you can agree something is wrong here.

Well, why does it cost so much? How many people were invovled in just giving that O2? The doc had to write the order, the nurse had to tell an MA and the MA had to administer it. Someone had to stock the O2 and the O2 needed to be bought. Hospital itself has taxes and utility costs. All inherent in that system. Adding more complexity to it by creating 111 more agencies to get that service paid for will not make HC cheaper. It may increase access, but not efficiency or quality.

Its because other countries have nationalized health care and the government caps costs. Many of those governments write a budget for health care which leads to rationing of care. We have that here its call,"not being able to afford it." But i feel much more comfortable being able to go to the government when other entities are corrupt. When the government is corrupt the only help is the person staring at you in the mirror and the only solution is revolution.

Having a public option would not make the prices drop and the economy improve. Whats the one thing that an insurance company cannot function without that the government can? Profit. The insurance companies have no chance if such a public option would exist; they would go out of business. We would have a monopoly, and everybody would have sub-par care. All other countries with socialized medicine have this problem.

I was raised in Britain under the National Health system. I am part of one of the healthiest generations ever. No system is ever perfect, but the NHS is far better than the commercial rip-off health insurance in the USA. Kaiser is the closest thing to good health care in the USA

America is number one in responsiveness due to the WHO. Number one. And you know what responsiveness is defined as? Patient outcomes and satisfaction. The people who are getting health care are being treated by the best. The 1/3 illegal immigrants, 1/3 over 50K a year and the other 1/3 who are eligible for medicare and medicaid, we need not worry about. This is there decision.

Medicare is a GOVERNMENT health care program and yes it has some problems but before it was passed seniors paid more than 20% of their incomes for health insurance. The same incredible arguments (often complete lies) against a public option were the exact same arguments against Medicare in 1965. The difference is that then reasonable moderates from both parties who knew that only the most self-righteous and immature never learn to compromise got together and passed it and LBJ signed it.

The fact is we pay at least twice what other countries having public systems do and 70% more for our drugs. The only places inflation is actually chewing up people's incomes are health insurance and medicines. We can certainly do better than 37th in the world in health care. I hold capitalism and privitization high. Government has done a very poor job running other businesses, such as the postal service. They have no reason to make their service high quality because they have no threat of failure. Compeition is necessary, and government invovlement will strip us of that.

My father-in-law just died of cancer 2 months ago. He had Blue Cross Blue Shield. He reached his lifetime limit and now my mother-in-law is stuck with over 50,000 in hospital bills. That's after his life insurance paid out as well. Now she's scrambling to come up with 600 dollars a month so she can have insurance.

I'm the victim of a government run health care system in Canada. We have both a public system which covers most people, and a private one that takes our rights away and abuses us to death. You have the same in the U.S. Workers Compensation insurance is employer funded private insurance protecting the employer. not the injured worker. It is the only insurance program that removes the medical and legal rights of a patient.

Have you seen the "new" Republican health plan offered as an "alternative"? Alternative to what? It's a total sellout to the already monopolistic health insurance companies: (1) no elimination of pre-existing conditions, (2) no elimination of dropping sick, unprofitable customers, (3) no anti-monopoly legislation, (4) no actual competition or "free" enterprise to make premiums affordable.
