@InternetLad Consider it done InternetLad! I have infact already in my spare time done a couple of Dalek 'band covers' for songs including The Beatles: "We can work it out." Since someone's specifically asked for it I may upload that... Wish I was better at actually doing stop motion or animation so I could give it a music video....
@KarmStarkiller My aim is to slowly mold my face to look more like him, change my build to be identical and then eventually replace him entirely.
That or just continue to develop my voice acting on the side as a bit of fun and continue developing a number of different Dalek voices. I have yet to decide.
I'm looking for a good ring modulator solution. I'm currently using ultrawave guitar multifx but I have to patch the sound through my laptop which adds a lot of noise to the sound signal. Plus, it's hard to match the settings on that ring modulator to the show.
Does anyone know of a good live voice changer with a ring modulator? The soundblaster live 5.1 had one, but they dropped that with x-fi (Newer card, more expensive, fewer recording features sadly). Looking for something live for games.
@palehorse864 As Inumba1BieberFanl suggested, morphvox pro with killerringer installed should do the trick. I know of at least one workaround trick which should allow you to get the same effect for free, but it involves using Audio Hijack Pro and Garageband on the Mac... Don't know of a PC alternative I'm afraid. Thought I'd throw that out there though on the off chance that you happen to use one. Since you're looking for something live for games, I'm presuming not though :p
I know I've never heard of HOG but I have now thanks to ur ingenius Dalek voices I can a Dalek voice without a ring modulator bit if I record its really crackly and hardly make out what I'm saying but for HOG do I need a microphone or can I do it all on a conputer if so than great just tell me qjoxh site to download it off then I'll start making my own Daley phrases
@RobDalek Well, I've since found it hard to find the version that I use, but if you just type "hog ring modulator" into google, you'll find a version that I believe works just fine on the 1st page, it's like the 2nd link. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "do it all on a computer". HOG as a programme allows you to take sound files and add the desired effect to it. So you need to record your voice with a microphone, yes. Then save it and then add the effect using HOG.
that was absolutely brill could u tell me if u can buy a ring modulator in Hull electrical shops if do which one is my best bet and where is it located if they don't sell it in shops which site can I go on to buy them
@RobDalek Buying a ring modulator in and of itself is not something I'd personally suggest. It can be confusing to find the kind of voice modulator you want, and expensive mistakes can be made. If you're willing to go for a home made one, there's a fantastic guide to doing so located in the Dalekcity.co.uk but unless you're really desperate to have something which you can talk into and just hear the voice come straight out of, I'd use one of the ring modulator pieces of software on your computer
@drwhocrazed aye, there's much more you can do with the Dalek voice then just at this one setting. Which this test was for. Though I find most of it comes from your actual delivery, rather then shifting the settings when it comes to Dalek voices.
If you want to do it 'on the cheep' and without having to go through soldering electronics and/or spending too much money over the internet, I'd suggest looking for a windows program called "HOG". This is a free piece of software that can add effects to sound files saved as .wav files. You'll want to use ring modulation and set the frequency to about sine 35 for new series Dalek voices.
@Agui007 I've always been kind of fond of the Remembrance voices as well. Particularly during the cliffhanger after Ace's little encounter with a Dalek and a baseball bat (Who're you calling small!) They're very alien and unusual sounding to my ears. Which is never a bad thing. I'm considering doing another of these videos and seeing if I can't go through the different effects and settings to try and recreate different eras of Dalek voices through immitation.
Can do you do me a favor, please? Can you listen to "Karn Evil 9 3rd Impression,(on Brain Salad Surgery) by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, and show us how they obtained the computer voice using the ring modulator, with a sample?
I would deeply, deeply appreciate it, if you could do this. Thanks so much.
no promises, but I can try. I'll search and listen to it now. Ring modulation can be used to achieve a huge degree of effects, but if it's just a simple robot voice then chances are it's not too complicated.
Thanks, a million. If it is any help, the use of the ring modulator starts at 1:54 into the track, again at 2:12, again at 8:04- 8:12, again at 8:16 and 8:19-20. It seems that if you "yell" like he does at 2:12 (where he yells "STRANGER!") it produces an interesting effect. I want to buy one of these, specifically to do this song, but, I don't know if they are using something else along WITH the modulator, or, if it is just it, alone. Maybe, you can steer me in the right direction?
Thank you muchly. : ) I keep planning to put something together using my, in my opinion, now much better attempts at Dalek and Cybermen voices through ring modulation... But I'm really no good at creating my own projects. XD Thanks again for the compliment.
A lot of what makes a good dalek voice is the delivery rather than the effect itself - check out the awful voices in the "Day of the Daleks" story for example. You seem to do the Dalek voice really well :-)
oh no, I meant that my voice had improved. XD I haven't really changed the effect much. Sorry the "through ring modulation" comment is misleading. And god, don't mention Day of the Daleks... It's like they suddenly forgot that they were playing Daleks and just decided to do stereotypical, very monotone robot voices. Plus it has probably my favourite nonsensical Dalek line ever. "DO NOT DIS-PUTE WITH THE DALEKS." just sounds... Wrong. XD And thanks for the positive comment.
The key is to not worry about sounding like an idiot. XD Because you will do. Personally I just listened to special features and the likes from the DVD box sets. Anything with interviews or features involving Nicholas Briggs. Just get an idea of his voice and emulate it. There should be plenty of footage of him recording the lines off set during filming. And you can clearly hear his voice separate from the ring modulated product. Final advice is just to not hold back at all, and be angry.
mmm... Don't know really. I'd suggest just searching for it for a while. I went back to where I downloaded it, way back when, and the site appears to be down now. You should be able to find it around or a similar program. Just google is the best advice I can give, sorry : (
ive got hog and ive done a few dalek/davros voices but i have forgotten what channel out of SINE, SAWTOOTH or SQUARE and what frequency it was. i think i did it on SAWTOOTH and on frequency 200-250. could you please tell me what one you did?
sine 32 to around 37 as I said in the post above. 35 is a good bet. It's a fairly new series sound, if you want to emulate anything from the classic series, I'd just test a bit below or above that area depending on the era you're thinking of.
If you want to do it 'on the cheep' and without having to go through soldering electronics and/or spending too much money over the internet, I'd suggest looking for a windows program called "HOG". This is a free piece of software that can add effects to sound files saved as .wav files. You'll want to use ring modulation and set the frequency to about sine 32 to around 37 depending on what you think sounds better. After this experiment, I reckon 35 sounds best actually.
Welcome, friends!

@Endgame167 nice. you can use footage from the show, with the dalek working it out by exterminating everything. That sort of works out.
