fun family ATV trip from castlegar thru the myra trestles--great tourism multi use trail-----trail's Canada has ruled that trail's BC has no athority to restrict ATV access anywhere--Canada trail's policy is -multy use= ALL users
I don't know if it was available on video or DVD, but many years ago, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) dramatized Pierre Burton's "National Dream." They used Myra Canyon, the track in which still intact, as a stand-in for the Fraser Canyon, and ran a CPR steam train through it - in color! I'd love to see a clip of that blast from the past.
@NVanWendy : Pre fire. There was a huge fire that destroyed quite a few of the trestles. They rebuilt them.....So...up until the fire, any old film footage would have more vegetation.....and the original trestles....without the side rails and added floorboards....
@snowflakemtn That was such a scary time to cross those trestles. I did it on my bike once and ended up lifting my bike across a space, passing it to a guy on the other side of a gaping hole that was missing at least 4 ties. So we were balancing on the side rails and as you said, no railing! There were 2 spots like that. And then had to come back. :( I like the modifications!
It was crazy, they had about 3-4" clearance on either side. They make that trip 10 times a day. Good for the weight. The trestles were built originally for a train, rebuilt with smaller timber, but still heavy. Except for some of the cross members, they look like original.
Must have been expensive to build new bridges.

@NVanWendy the complete DVD set is avaliable from CBC, 10 DVD's, about $200.
I bought at set last year, great to see it again, the footage is typical for the early 70's.

@krankorpacific Hmm... don't know if I'd part with 200 clams just for more favorite scenes, but it's good to hear they made it available.
When you say it's typical for the 70s, what do you mean by that?

I hope those trestles were built to support that weight! Seems crazy.
