People, this had nothing to do with illegal immigrants. It wasn't even advertised as an immigration protest. There were flyers for a May Day street party, a bunch of young people showed up to see what it was about, then the organizers put on black masks and used the crowd as cover while they vandalized public property. That was the FBI's conclusion. Sure, they were assholes, but this had nothing to do with immigration.

@jp3711nc1 good job assuming what someone would say and then calling them a hypocrite. From what Just4TheeTaste said, it sounds like if it was a Tea Party protest she still wouldn't be calling for blood. Nothing in her comment was politicized, her point was that some property damaged occurred because of a few individuals, not because this was a sanctioned riot and people shouldn't blame a whole group because of a couple dumb people, whether they are so-called anarchists or Tea Party members.
@snfnglue - The point you can't understand w/o experiencing it first hand is; if this were a side event with an outside chance that there may have been a couple people that the NATIONAL FRICKIN MEDIA, with all of their power and might to mold opinion, could have possibly tied to a tea party or to the right in general, this would've been on a loop the entire weekend and into the beginning of the following week. @jp3711nc1 sub-question: from your comment it seems like you're in support of the Tea Party. How do you feel when liberals claim that all Tea Party members are ignorant, racist nazis? If it angers you to be compared to a small number of people in the party who you might not associate with, then you shouldn't do the exact same thing to others, even if they are the dreaded left.
@Just4TheeTaste Dang straight, we have bigger problems, many of them include this type of actions though. This is how people act in third world countries, we are supposed to have civil discourse, but I think those days are past.
@Just4TheeTaste Wow was that a run on sentence or just the longest perfectly 'structured' sentence? I like that your statement, in which you criticize others spelling and ability to structure a sentence, is a grammatical nightmare. I love the irony.
@33hmk33 Oh I am terribly sorry. You see I was writing as though I were actually talking to you sots in a very fast and frustrated manner. I don't give one damn that it was a run on sentence lol. The point was that people were leaving out whole fragments of sentences out of their arguments and then continuing on as though they knew what the hell they were talking about. So thank YOU for taking the time to comment I hope you boosted that poor little ego of yours ;)
Since the 89 quake, Santa Cruz has adopted a model that puts businesses ahead of locals, or even people in general. And now this happened...I wonder why
Everyone does that the anarchist idiots hijacked the demonstration, right? It has already been concluded from investigations by the FBI and local police. I support the demonstration but anarchists came along, hijacked it, and has now officially ruined it like they ruin everything else.
Nobody was killed and as far as I know there were no injuries. You want a riot, head down to Watts. Because all you got here were just a bunch of amped up kids trying to have fun with a few being stupid, just like in everyday society. America means freedom, even if it's the freedom to be dumb.
Secondly, while IT'S COMPLETELY JUVENILE AND LAME to smash windows and do nothing else, this "riot" got blown way out of proportion. Most of the businesses targeted are able to pay for the damage without batting an eye (really, who gives a fuck about Urban Outfitters? If you do, get your priorities straight and stop shopping at over expensive crap stores that claim "underground" status), and for those locals that got knicked, why not set up a community fund to help pay for the damages?
So as long as a business is able to pay for the damages then its ok? You idiot, maybe since your parents can by you dentures, someone should kick your teeth in.
@orbust hahahah oh orbust, trying to start a fight over the internet with a stranger. . .classic. And if you're going to call someone an idiot, make sure you proofread your post or learn the difference between "buy" and "by."
@snfnglue Yea lets destroy all the successful business and maybe next lets find their private houses and destroy those they can afford it, What a brilliant person you are, You should run for office.
@JLOVE11562 clearly you should be the one running for office since you're so good at twisting people's words around. I never said "destroy all successful businesses" or "let's go kill the capitalists and burn their houses down." Since you missed my point so blatantly, let me spell it out. This is a town where someone gets stabbed or shot every couple of weeks, there's a huge gang problem with a kicker of hard drugs to boot. Every Halloween there's a stabbing downtown, like clockwork. When approx
@JLOVE11562 300 people gather downtown for a "riot" with the aftermath being only a few broken windows and some graffiti, then the story that's being told is just a tad bit sensational. In case you didn't actually read my whole previous post, yes, it was a completely juvenile act that really didn't prove anything, but at least the handful (reports are saying 4) of people responsible mainly damaged companies that could afford the damages, unlike the jewelry and Velvet Underground. I'm all for
@snfnglue Much like the 'reporting on the Tea Party rallies...it's not about reporting, it's about A.D.D. sensationalism. If reporters told the truth, it would probably not lure as many people in than if they make everything headline news.
@JLOVE11562 starting a fund to help the local businesses out because that's what a community does in times of hardship. But for everyone to get all pissed off to the point where they're calling for blood and blaming everyone at the downtown protest/party/whatever is ridiculous. I remember the L.A. riots, I remember the fires, the killings, whole blocks turned into war zones with 24 hour news coverage. No, Saturday night in Santa Cruz wasn't a riot, it was basically a parade that got out of hand
@JLOVE11562 because a couple of people decided to be stupid. And in fact, if you watch other videos you will clearly see people from the march ganging up and trying to stop the individuals from smashing windows. Hell, the one person who has been arrested wasn't a student and possibly not even an "anarchist" but just a drifter from Fresno.
@JLOVE11562 So yeah, it sucks that it happened, but maybe people are also blowing it just a little out of proportion. Or, you know, maybe we should fuck shit up and kill 'em all, i don't really care.
First off, May Day isn't a Communist Labor Holiday, it was established as a LABOR holiday during the days when Unions actually mattered and people gave a fuck about working classes. After the Haymarket "riot" of May 4, 1886 (which also started out as a peacful assembly until the cops showed up), May Day became internationally know as Labor Day in recognition of the people who lost their lives. For all you claiming Soviet intervention, it's actually about as American as apple pie and exploitation
i am talking about the smashing of the storefront windows. i have never known ucsc students to do that kind of thing. that would be another group. IMO. i'm not crazy about all the students, but i don't think they are responsible for the damage.
the gathering was one thing, idiotic or not. what's the big deal about a gathering. the violence and the damage, i don't see them doing it. these were reportedly people wearing dark hoodies. hmmm.....
there's more here than meets the eye maybe. another group is probably responsible for the damage done to the store fronts. i am glad nobody was shot, stabbed, etc.
That is so.... cool. Looks like fun. We should do this more often. I mean be free and have fun in a relatively peaceful way. What can you do? Join the party have some fun make some new friends.
Most of these people are white. so I guess they're racist or something. Also, wheres the MSM? Oh that's right, they're focused on all of the tea party violence that never happened. Yet every time lefty's gather you can almost guarantee violence and vandalism.
LOSERS!!!! Get the fuck out of my town you little wannabe anarchist trust fund babies, the only reason you are doing this is to escape your parent's suburbanite upbringing and give yourselves something to brag about at Pergolesies.
I don't see any rioting going on here. I do know that flaming torches and lefty sons and daughters of hippies are an inherently bad combination, though.
Criminals doing criminal things. What's so shocking? If you enter the US illegally you are breaking the law. Why should we expect these criminals to act civilized?
How does employing residents of SC not contribute. Yeah, so they pay crap, but I don't see all you lazy assholes willing to get off your bums and actually perform hard work?
you'd rather panhandle and eat off the the lunch lines.
a friend of mine just posted some pictures of the mess on facebook.. smashed windows, glass EVERYWHERE, graffiti on the walls.. it's incredible. fucking idiots

ah, but you assume that violence, when anyone and everyone is "allowed" to use it, would disappear. or it would be more just or something.

"They're monochromatic, right? Meaning they're all white. All of them, every single one of them is white. Yeah, well what's that about?"

I don't see any rioting going on here. I do know that flaming torches and lefty sons and daughters of hippies are an inherently bad combination, though.

mayday is the day progressives and "anarchists" celebrate the past glories of soviet tanks rolling over the skulls of formerly free peoples.
it's analogous to what it would be like if skinheads were granted parade permits to march in celebration of krystalnacht.

If you don't like a store don't shop there.

Mind numbed robots. You contribute nothing. You gain no respect. You think you are free thinkers..... you're not. You just follow a different crowd.

This is incriminating to both you (since you were obviously there) and the rest of the people in the video. I would suggest removing it asap.
