Hey, I was considering buying a Billion BiPAC 7402NX VPN wireless router to set up a a tunnel to access my network from my Mac or Windows 7 laptop, I'm still trying to work out how the encryption works.
The router supports embedded IPSec VPN (Virtual Private Network) protocols, allowing users to establish encrypted private connections of up to 16 simultaneous tunnels over the Internet with a built-in DES / 3DES VPN accelerator.
Do I have to buy encryption like a SSL cert, or is it free?
i did everthing you guys said but with i try to put in my own password to connect vpn it tells me i connect with the user name and pasword i put in wat should i do
xp also allows setting up of FTP (inetroot) using microsoft windows components addition from control panel, with that you can have all the files (music movies) via FTP too. good for larger file upload download. required port FWD from router to localhost (FTP 21 may be)
change the original password before go to a coffee shop or vacation and then go back after finish your vacations or whatever and set the original password.
@joseitodemiami They could still use your password while you were away. Creating their own account. Or visiting a website installing malicious software that takes control of your computer.
@Zeldakitteh If the school allows that kind of connections the admins wont be able to see the information. But some schools (and offices) only allows outgoing connections to a few ports like 80 and 443. But if that's the case you could set up a Linux box with the SSH-server on 443 and use that as a proxy to encrypt what get's sent and received to your browser, and a some other programs (there are guides for this on net).
in a similar situation of deskreel, I configured the vpn on my computer to accept incoming connections. I'm using the external IP (with port forwarding). Able to connect but not browse, I try to input the ip address of the server, but an error denotes that the network path was not found. What could be causing this?
the user name and pasword might be the person pc account password that your connecting to but i having problem with host name from were am gona put host name
i still cant do it and am wondering if the fact the one of the isps have made our connection as a dynamic ip. will i have to do something different.??
at the start of this vid you mention on the last vid you were sniffing that dude connection at the coffee shop and could see his IM messages and passwords? can you post the link to that video as i wanna see it but cant find it. Also your show kicks huge ass!! great work!

This only sets up a PPTP connection. PPTP is a dead protocol as both LEAP and MSCHAMPv2 are insecure (via programs such as Asleap). I believe there is a way to force TLS-EAP usage, but I don't remember off-hand how.
You'd probably be better off teaching users how to set up OpenVPN for your secure tunnel.
sorry i mean the server machine that's behind the router the windows firewall on the server. is there some ports to open cause i only get in once iv disable win firewall.
For the client side i need to disable my windows firewall in order to connect, other wise it will not connect. so what ports must i open on the clients windows firewall? thanks anyone for a reply!
but they are talking about setting up a HOME VPN so evem though you mentioned coffe hotspots (ther called hoptspots in the UK) I dont think that is quite relavent? also not all coffee hotpots are Unsecured because you have to to get a key to use them (some) that they only give to paying customers ,you would be much beeter off just sitting in a car park or airport etc and checking out the traffic there(dongals W/E laptops etc) but thanks for your reply
they're called hotspots everywhere, i just call them hotshops. i have no idea why hehe
anyways you set up this vpn for security because you route all your traffic to a different location, in this case, your home, so that the people also on the network cant just watch what you're saying to your buddies, or pull your username-password to your email or w/e.
although you can have a vpn inside of the lan, theres little reason i've found to do so. they're referring to the vpn outside of the lan
U did that WAY too fast. We're not all bad asses with our own shows who know everything. Wish you did it slower as if you were really trying to teach people who don't know how to do this
im confused i dont understand the part you have to put in your public ip adress/dan. what should I put there? how do i know my dns? or do I ust put my public IP?
the port forwarding is done in your router, forwarded to your computer. basically, they connect to your router through port 1723, and the router says everything from that port goes to your server computer, using the internal ip (192.168.*.*)
Great tutorial. This worked fine for me. My problem is, how can you apply this to a VPN server having dynamic IP address?? Then server IP changes and client cannot know the new server IP address!! Any solution?? Or Static IP is a must?? thx
i was able to connect from my freind's computer to my own laptop via vpn,i followed all the steps port forwarding an d rest,i saw the connection notification come on my freiends laptop but i still dont know how to access the shared files i set up on my laptop i try to catch the last end of the video, where d guys connected to d shared file from the Run window but i failed to see the command line even after playing it back 10 times..if anybody get this, pls explain...thanks

Type on google 'VpnAccounts' and click on the first website. It's so Cheap + Fast.
It supports:
PPTP
L2TP
SSTP
OpenVPN
I have been using it for the past 2 weeks. It works perfectly (better than all the VPN i ever used)

Doesn't work for me. It connects, but isn't actually connected. It shows ipv4 not connected and isn't sending any packets back and forth.

@ecotts You CAN buy certs to increasing trust of you. But you don´t need it if you don´t care about users.

What stops people in coffee shops with packet sniffers from catching the password you write to connect to your virtual private network?
And the information you send to the network, would that be encrypted?
Zeldakitteh 1 year ago

Zeldakitteh 1 year ago
@Zeldakitteh 1. When you connect to the VPN it will do a handshake and establish a secure connection before you log in. So the password is encrypted.
2. Yes, also the information you receive from the network is encrypted.
crax83 1 year ago
@crax83 Does that apply to school networks, I.E - Would the administrators see information transmitted, like passwords?
Zeldakitteh 1 year ago

Have a few question
1) Public IP Address would be my IP given from my ISP, right?
2) the port 1723 needs to be forwarded to my router/server? can u explain me that again?
naduongruto 2 years ago
1. Your ISP can give you just one port to set up a VPN, not the new IP address, but if you have an public IP it's easier:)
2. Yes, you must allow to connect up and down through this port.
Kicekpicek 2 years ago
yes, the public ip is the ip given by your isp
