tell me guys,if any one is an expert. what has mclaren done for mercedes ?? what parts of mclaren were even used to make the slr ?? becuz ive heard from many that even the new sl63 outhandles the slr which is a big statement considering carrera gt and slr are nearly identical in everything.that being sid what has mclaren really done ?? its a tuned 55 amg engine that mercedes could have easily done themselves,and the design ?? it looks pretty merc to me...dont see any reason in keeping relations

the Mclaren thing is difficult to understand. Mclaren's original link is only in F1. And meanwhile Merc have bought out illmor engineering who make the F1 engines. Mclaren was never supposed to produce a car for the road, only f1 cars, which seem to work quite well. Back in the 90s apparently Merc went a little overboard saying that they will produce a supercar, and somehow decided that this could be built by Mclaren? Engine still comes Afalterbach. Meanwhile seems no point in continuing.

trident3b; McLaren produced one of the greatest road cars the world has ever seen; the F1. I'd thus say Mercedes would have appreciated their input.

Although, I do agree that it's very difficult to draw links between the McLaren F1 and the heavy, leather bound, woodgrain dashed, automatic gearboxed SLR. Its a car that needed much more Mclaren and much less Mercedes.

The Kamaraden stuff etc. in the music from around the 2nd world war and alludes to old German miltary activity, and the video starts off by declaring that Merc has ended its relationship with McClaren... which is English... get it now? It is more than likely stating that they prefer to do it themselves since German is better than English in his view, or he never liked the idea of McClaren making a Merc.

no idea. Mercedes has bought our illmor engineering (F1 engines) to continue with F1 cars, and Mclaren it seems will continue with F1 cars for Mercedes. Perhaps Mercedes wants McLaren to concentrate on F1 only and not commercial cars. .. seems to make sense.
