The other day i was walking down the street in Fort Nelson BC,and just about 3 feet away from me there was a big"WHAMM".It almost gave me a heart attack. From the corner of my eyes i could just seen a brown spot hitting the ground. So i looked over and it was a Hawk wrestled a Pigeon out of the sky and slammed to the ground. The Pigeon was still alive but the Hawk didn't care just started to pull out the Pigeon's Feathers on the sidewalk once in awhile hit it on the head with its Beak was awesome
I wouldnt say it was shot, I wouldnt even say it was wounded. Flying way to good to be either. Probably fired a round to scare it off cause some jackass doesnt like nature. Looks kinda small to be lifting a squirrel.
Thats a Red Tailed Buzzard not a Hawk, even though americans call them Red Tailed Hawks, it is actually a member of the Buteo family and so correctly called a Red-tailed Buzzard.
We're aware that Europeans have different words for some things. We use "hawk" as a generic term for Buteos. It avoids confusion since our European ancestors mistakenly called black vultures and turkey vultures "buzzards". So, when the word "buzzard" is mentioned here, it most often brings to mind a vulture.
@MrCrazyMagee I think the squirrel survived and got away. I looked for it and it wasn't there. The hawk may have just taken some hair. I thought the squirrel was dead when I photographed it.

Hawks are a federally protected species - shooting them is a FEDERAL crime. Look up the Migratory Bird Treaty Act

strange about the shots. I hope it was just target practice off in the distance or something like that.
