  • lmfao theres always that guy... that one guy who wants to be the divo and stick out, overhold notes and be out on a limb.. :(.. pretty nice version though otherwise.. well and for the pitch he was singing being incorrect..

  • they're all just way too heavy. I understand this is a large choir, but they're too heavy in all of their words, besides the fact that the womens tone color is not all that great....they could have done better. There is no differentiation between dynamic levels either.

  • its ok. maybe dynamics to liven it up. It was very mf the whole song.. And i was very disappointed that the director cut off those great long flowing phrases from 3:04 - 3: 30 which were supposed to connect.

  • hmmmmm it definitely is being dragged a lot.. its supposed to flow as water, almost stretching in a sence.. umm sopranos..wow! too much vibrato and when you go higher dont think out and loud.. flow up to the notes.. hmmm it can blend more.. the dissonance is very important in this peice, and its just not there.. a lot of screaming.. think light.. like for real.. feel the passion that eric whitacre has put into this peice.. every line is for a reason..
  • I don't like all the pauses. I think this song is supposed to flow smoothly and eerily, and strong pauses between break the harmony of the song. Tenors are in wrong note in some places, sopranos really shriek, and generally especially males tend to shout more than sing.

I think it's decent, but not by far good.

  • You should listen that BYU Singers version instead, it's much, much better.

  • ehhh. not great. sopranos are shrieking their notes throughout the piece. I think having so many performers takes away from the intimacy of the piece. The University of Redlands has an amazing recording of it. not sure if it is up, but you all should look into it.

  • This is heartbreakingly beautiful! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!!

  • i must disagree, i find it a tad bit slow, i mean, it sounds good, but to me, a little dragged out, but good job.

  • the song is supposed to be slow!

  • I will just say first I'm not commenting on how they did. It's possible to go too slow even if a song is supposed to be slow.

  • well if you were in a choir and have seen the music for this song you would know that its supposed to be this slow. we're singing it.

  • I am in a choir but we didn't do this song. But yeah I remember this song :D My sister sang it when she was in choir and I wish the choir I'm in would sing it next year but we're probably gonna do Cloudburst. Still a great piece but I love Water Night

  • Polyphony didn't even sing it this slow...

    It was a tad faster...

  • yeah it is a bit too slow.

my choir is doing this song too, and it's definatly is not that dragged out.

  • someone goes OUTRAGEOUSLY(hunter) sharp at four minutes and thirty five seconds in... haha

  • haha, I've always noticed that

  • Was the music written with the lifts between phrases in the "If you open your eyes" section? Just curious, because I've never heard this piece performed with those breaks in it.

  • I believe D.C. decided to interpret that part that way.

  • It's true.

  • My only possible criticism is vowels.

But great job with blend. It's not an easy song at all. I was soprano Ib when I sang this with my choir. Lol. :)

  • the only thing that I don't really like is all the purposely done pauses that you guys do but other than that you guys did really well.

The "if you open your eyes" gave me chills, you guys did the clash just right.

  • AMAZING! I agree that the tempo is perfect. I'm in the University Choir of The University of Florida and we sing it at this tempo. Much more expressive. Nice balance between men and women, usually all you hear is Soprano screaming on high notes ( just because they like to lol)

  • Excellent. I do prefer the BYU version's tempo though, it is ever so slightly faster.

  • 3:12 is amazing

  • The thing that gets me is how someone can write music like this. Absolutely emaculate.

  • I just found out that me and my chamber ensemble are going to be singing this song. beautiful

  • Wow, this is beautiful.

    Amazing job guys.

  • I sang this song with my concert chior, and it's THE most difficult song ever.

    Very nice.

  • oh wow... you guys this is absolulty brilliant! the temp and the blend was absolutly amazing! our choir had tried singing this but were unable to have it down in time for state, which was quite upseting but it is very nice to hear the song how it should have been done and hear the beautiful parts. i forget, does anyone know how many parts are singing that one line "if you open your eyes..."

  • 14 parts :D

  • 14 parts are you fucking serious?!?!? I'm sorry for swearing, but FOR REAL?!?!?!

  • Love the tempo!

  • Exactly. Perfect tempo for the song - all the other videos on here of this are much too fast. Slower the better :)

  • you guys sang at my school and this was my favorite song you guys sang. i'm a singers wannabe but probably will never go to umaine. keep singing!!

  • very nice overall, though I thought the interpretation was too loud at ~1:40, "night of shadow water."
