yea... i went to DJ a party @ the contemporary art institute of detroit and some girl OD'd ... all the kids were on drugs and were only there for the drugs... I asked 1 kid if he had heard of derrick may he said no... I Left without playing. fuck that.. fuck the new school "ravers"
Well what do you expect when a certain type of music gets more popular?Sorry to say that its no longer an underground scene. I wish it was, but not anymore. I wish I could have been into techno back in the day, but still, I wasnt old enough back then. The rock scene in Detroit has gone downhill for the same reasons. People getting into it and doing certain things to try to fit in. Somewhere along the line the passion for the actual music is lost.
So what if you take a few pills and smoke a spliff at a rave. Go to the local pub and watch the drunks fight. Alcohol is a way worse type of drug. I have been to loads of raves and have seen very little trouble. I live in London but same type of crowd i expect as Detroit . Silly yanks.
i don't know too much about raves even though i do go once in a while to places outdoor or at some lounges and clubs to hear some house music. the drug problem is in almost all dance events though, for example i went to this salsa concert recently and i saw a lot of these people at the back of the venue shooting up heroin. rock concerts are the same
thanks aseagris this was very informative. i was too young to even go to a rave, but always heard about the drug issue, i bet it was probably blown out of proportion by the media and parents.
its a shame i wish it weren't like that, man i hear nothing but bad stuff about the D. not enough is done politically to fix social issues because the government doesn't give a damn. but its definitely driven by so much racism
i'm trippin yo this is kind of heavy actually. look at how coltrane's ignorant "imitators" talking loud shit and saying nothing thru their horns screwed up that music....idk yo, shit will repeat for a long long long time. millions of years perhaps till people get some damn sensitivity. shit.
yo don't want to mack out this thread but this is kind of an important point that came up RE: adriel. i wish we could talk about it in real time.
hope you read this again adrieldetriot. love to hear what you are feeling. but yo it's an art form like anything else so ultimately it is about ...k i'm out i'm babbling.
that is agree with the realness aseagris is talking. girl is always on point. working with certain nyc types at a certain long running closed now music store i can tell you there are those in our generation too that forgot once they once knew ya know? anyways y'all...nothing but love.
yo 110% i fully and totally agree. and that's not blame persay yo but just ignorance on their part.
it's just attachment that can bring ya down adriel. anyways i hope you find it again....cause shit....it's up to us to educate and ultimately enjoy ...word.
I absolutely agree with you ,I started in 1997 with Hard Detroit Techno in Warsaw in Poland ,and thru the years the public was more sh**te then ever ,nobody knows who is playing and what ....
At the time, there were some of us in Detroit's rave scene who were naive enough to believe it WAS all about the music. That's why I said what I did in this video.
nothing but love bro but it is only about the music ultimately. like i've found that when there is more attached to something, like trying to make a living etc, shit gets messed ya know? all I'm saying is that we are hanging in my crib and we flip on the gear, that right there is what it's all about.
The guy from Chicago at 3:00 tells the truth. Detroit is no different from Chicago in relation to these drug orgies. I had friends who were too old for this "scene" caught up in it. (They couldn't dance either).
Drug orgies. I'm white and grew up with this music. We danced to it, not flail our arms and spin like night of the living dead characters. I remember one of the original techno artists saying that he "didn't appreciate people stealing his music and now calling his parties raves". These were very popular amongst the gay society in Detroit when the ecstacy and drug faze became very popular. These "raves" were for white people that couldn't dance.
