Actually, the term emo was used to descirbe fans of the music genre eMoCore aswell and later it formed a culture based on light fashion goth and somewhat dark point of view (my experiences). Emocore/emo "emotive-hardcore/violence" was an offspring of hardcore punk/crust punk and developed in the mid 90s the original emo music died in the 90s but it continued through what in my theory is called second and thirdwave emo/screamo. ppl claim emo to be depressing, but that's bull. FUCK THE DAILY MAIL

just a flag: Real emo's arent the self pittiers that cry their hearts out and cut themselves for fun. Emo's (short for "emotion") connect to life and all its feelings and emotions. Our music sends true messages that arent obscured by todays society.
@64notorious Since emo has no guidelines to life or anything like that the term is quite loose. As mentioned in the vid, it's not emotion or emotional. Emos can self pitty and cut just as much as a punker/goth/metalhead/chav/rapper can. But people claiming to be emo because they have been labeled by others are not. As i've said before you're not born to like emo music or be in the emo sub-culture, it's a matter of choice. calling it label is bull and calling out stereotypes are bull end of story
what would you call the band "cap'n jazz"? for me they're like the defining emo band, and they're pretty good.
i definitely think that fall out boy is just pop rock/pop punk, same with the used, mcr, panic at the disco, etc etc. i don't think that this will ever be popular knowledge, though.
I'm considered 'emo' or 'scene' and really it's just I love certain bands and artists that aren't Justine Beaver or other mainstream crap.(though MCR is good). They classify you as 'emo' if: you like black, you have scene hair, you bi/gay/lesbian, and you listen to scary music. Yes I like black. Yes I have 'scene' hair. Yes I'm bi. And I listen to what's considered scary music. And people who call me a poser are stupid. I'm called emo. But I've never met another 'emo' (I live in a small commun
No, The members of the band had previously been involved in Emo bands like Embrace and Rites of Spring. But Fugazi is arguably the progenitor of post-hardcore. They have bits and pieces of Emo leftover in their sound but they also do a bunch of things that have no relation to the genre.
Actually, when the name "emo" was first tagged to Embrace (Mackayes band..circa '86), it did mean "emotional." In fact, Mackaye thought it was a cheesy term. I agree w/ you though. Most of these "emo" bands nowadays, are nothing but pop (similar to the way that posers, back in the day, thought Green Day was punk). Of course fragments circulated post- Husker DU, R.O.S, and Embrace (like Sunny Day Real Estate..which was more indie/alternative with emo & grunge influences) that
were good. WE also had cheesy ass pop like wheezer & jawbreaker (which, like Green Day, I HATED back then). Even Screamo existed long before these new emocore bands came along. Don't get me wrong, I like bands like Glassjaw (who, IMO were true emo flavored metalcore), but too many ppl throw the word emo around w/out knowing what it actually was.
Yes I am a retard and I accept it. Unlike you. Your videos not wrong, you've just missed a bit. We don't try to be a music genre. We try to be ourselves. You're basically saying that my friends and I have been beat up, fucking assulted, and attempted suicide because of that because obviously no one thinks that part of Emo is a group of people.
There is no such thing as "emo people". It's a music genre and that's all it is. Just because a bunch of retards thought it meant people who wear to much eyeliner and have long fringes doesn't mean it's true. Emo is music and that's that.
The original Emo was a music genre, but it has evolved and split off in to other things, even though the original music genre has stayed the same. I agree that it is a music genre, but it has evolved in to other things aswell.
It hasn't "evolved" because evolution implies that the new use of the term is somehow related to the original term. It's been used to Mislabel things, which inherently means it's incorrect. Evolution implies I can trace a line back to the original term and that can't be done when people insist that a fashion style and attitude are connected to a music genre that is completely against that crap.
You can trace Emo back to original Emo music. I know loads of Emos that listen to it. Its like punk is a music genre aswell as a fashion. People who listened to Emo music started to dress a certain way, and were eventually called Emos themselves, and certain parts that Emo split off and changed in to Emo we know today.
Oh god. Emo=Emotional Hardcore. Go listen to Rites of Spring. That's emo from the 80s. Then go listen to Saetia-90's and then Circle Takes the Square-Modern. There is no fashion associated with Emo because it's a music genre. Emo is part of hardcore therefore there is no dress code for emo just like there isn't one for hardcore. You don't know what you are talking about and Emo today is the same as it was back then. Just because some kid told you otherwise doesn't mean they're right.
Emo= Emotional(people) Emo=Emotive Hardcore(Music) Emo Music=Music that Emos listen to, not the Emo genre. But some of my friends do listen to circle takes the square.Emo IS a music genre, but IS ALSO a scene. Also Emos can wear whatever they want, just as long as they say their emo.Emo is lots of things now, not just Emotional Hardcore. Also unlesss you haven't noticed I am Emo, so its not like I'm gonna say no Emos is just a music genre.
There is no such thing as Emo people, get that through your head. There are people who listen to Emo music(this stuff) but there's no such thing as Emo people.
@Doonug1 YOU ARE VERY IGNORANT. THE ONLY TREND THAT EXISTS IS SCENES, AND THEY ARE NOT EMO. OH MY GOD. DON'T USE YOUR STUPID FRESHMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL TALK. YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT EMOS. ITS NOT ABOUT STYLE. GO LISTEN TO ALEXISONFIRE, THEY ARE PREHISTORIC EMOS. THE REAL KIND, THE ONES THAT DONT DRESS LIKE FAGGOTS
OK um there are lots of differant types of Emo, going from Emo/scremo music, Emo music, and Emo People. Some people think that Emo originated from Morrisy fans, and people call music like Simple Plan Emo because Emos listen to it, so sometimes it can be called Emo music. Emo/scremo is another type of Emo music, but then you woudn't call alot of scremo bands Emo. Also you get Emo people, who do listen to both types of music, but Emo people does not stand for Emotional hardcore.
I have no idea what you just said. But I'm going to assume that you're disputing my information. Emo=Emotional Hardcore. End of story. No opinions, no nothing. It's a music genre it started in the 80's it has nothing to do with bands like Simple Plan and it is not a fashion style. That simple.
I hate the way u try to prove ur point ...well good PEOPLE WAS WRONG but just shut the fuck up ..like if u know everything little piece of human ;) just because u know about emotional hardcore... dont hav to be proovn it to the damn world. what an ignorant.
Whilst it took me a few read throughs to understand that horrendous comment, I get the point. But oh wait, I live in a democracy and as such I can say whatever I feel like saying. And yes it does need to be explained to the idiots who run around misusing the term. You think Isaac Newton discovered gravity and decided to just let it be? No. I know about Emo, 98% of people who use the term don't. They need to be educated. Simple fact.
Well not really, they're very similar music being that one was created by the other. Also don't use Emocore, Emo already mean's Emotional Hardcore, so Emocore would Be Emotional Hardcore Hardcore. The point being if you take a band like Moss Icon you can see how that band syncs up with a band like Saetia, there are mass similarities but Moss Icon are called emo and Saetia get called Screamo. Really what separates them musically? Added chaos. That's about it.
It's called Emo and there's no hardcore in Mineral. Matter of fact there isn't any hardcore in any of those mid-west indie bands that get called emo. Emotive Hardcore; the keyword is Hardcore. If it doesn't have hardcore then it isn't Emo. Emocore is a redundant term, seeing as Emo is the standard abbreviation for Emotive Hardcore, the suffix -core in Emocore is uneccessary.
@XxbalugranaxX Underoath was original before when Emo became all mainstream. They're really good, all the original band members split. Alesana, MCR, and Blessthefall are all mainstream. But Underoath got popularity. The last original member to leave was Aaron their drummer. Underoath was really underrated, the 2 previous albums before Lost in the sound of Desperation was pretty mainstream. But Underoath can be a pioneer, they're not that bad.
@8JobForAMexican8 underoath is a great band they are an alternative-christian band. Just because something is alternative doesn't mean they are emo. Underoath is mainstream because they are all over the internet and on the radio. Underground bands are underground. Emo is underground music for the most part. The rites of spring hold the beginning of emo.
I would definitely say that intelligence does relate rather directly to the genre, I suppose you could say that you need a certain level of understanding to really appreciate the music e.g. A lot of casual listeners are never really going to understand deep lyrics because they don't really go beyond seeing lyrics as words to a song, which is why there isn't ever going to be a night club that plays Saetia, so I'd say yes intelligence does link to appreciating this genre.
I agree with you 90% of the way. Your only false statement is that Scremo and Emo are synonymous. Not quite. Emo is truly defined by bands such as the Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Realestate, and Jimmy Eat World (although RoS sounds nothing like the other two.) Screamo has a much more agressive sound than emo.
And regarding these "emo kids". You're absolutely right- they're not emo. I prefer to call them "Nightmare Before Christmas Fanatics" or just "Burtons" for short (like Tim Burton).
In terms of the screamo v. emo thing it's more in this current time. Bands like Circle Takes the Square and Kidcrash are somewhat of a middle ground which makes separating the tags rather pointless. But yeah I agree with what you're saying/ personally I prefer scenester/scene kid or mall goth when describing those annoying kids.
No it isn't. Pop literally means popular and if you consider pop an actual genre of music it's more or less; accessible, catchy music that can be played on the radio. Effectively the Offspring are catchy, accessible and get played on the radio but they're also very much a punk band. As such bands like the Offspring, Blink-182, Greenday, Saves the Day, etc. are all pop-punk bands. I know that punk started as a rebellion against poppy music but that doesn't mean you can't combine the two.
but see this i love saves the day and punk is agressive for example What i love the most - saves the day can be punk but for example freakish... is it pop-punk???
Yes. Everything Saves the Day ever wrote is pop-punk. And that isn't a bad thing. Look at it this way, Punk originally meant "rebel" but after people began associating it with certain bands it became a descriptor for the sound of those bands. Same withe very genre.
Have I been there? Yes, is that site a little off in a lot of it's descriptions? Yes. Especially the "Post-Emo-Indie-Rock" classification, that's just trying too hard.
Yeah, but you can't really do anything about that. Fact of the matter is he pioneered a sound that went on to influence an entire genre. It's no different to any genre really. e.g. Death created Death Metal but they never really liked the term.
Wasn't getting angry just stating a fact. There's so many artists who spout off the same "I'm too original to be put in a genre" it's incredibly cliche.
I feel as if I've learned something new today, I've never really labelled anything as Emo since I didn't know what was Emo. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks man, I did originally consider going around and attaching this as a response to any video that used the word incorrectly but I figured I'd mostly be spammed by ignorant fools.
It'd be just a waste of time, all that modern emo thing has already gone too far and nothing will change people's opinions until it grows old and a new trend emerges so that all the "emos" will drop it.
Anyway, I don't listen to HC, what are the first two bands in the video?
How the hell do you think punks came around? Through punk music.
How do you think gangsters came around? Through rap music
Are you a guy who thinks that his little shitty life revolves around emotive music, and is jelouse off all these bitch ass emo kids in their skinny jeans, checkered shirts, either realy wild cool hair, or buzzin greasy wanna be hair doo's?
Punk has existed as word for close to a millenium and has been synonymous to the word rebel for about 200 of those years. Gangster has been used to refer to anyone in a gang since te 1910's. Al Capone was a gangster and rap wasn't around in 1930's Vegas douche. Also I know it's been around since DC in 86. But it's not crappy pop-punk bands like Escape the Fate. Not to mention that Emo is a subgenre of Hardcore which is a subgenre of Punk so someone who listens to Emo would be a punk idiot.
Rofl i know gangsters orgiginated from gans, but im talking about the way gangsters are today you freakin nerd
And music genras have changed around since the 80's you know, and escape the fate arnt realy emo, MCR are definatly not emo, nor is fall out boy
But because so many emo/scene kids listen to them allso much, we're starting to change the way the 'emo' label off music is seen, you gotta accept CHANGE ffs. everything does. punk, 200 years? Lol. never knew they had mo-hawks back then *Lol*
First off I know ou dumbshits are trying to change the word. But you're wrong, if you change the word to mean something else then what are you going to call Modern Emo bands like Circle takes the Square?
Also stop associating the term gangster with black people. Tell a member of the mafia that they act like some petty street thug and they'll torch your balls off.
And Mohawks have existed since the days of ancient Rome douche. Also prior to 1812 punk used to mean Homosexual.
Or possibly the best moneymaking scheme ever invented. I don't know the name of the company that runs A&F and Hot Topic, but they really have the 13-17 demographic figured out.
emo is a fashion sense were im from, they all look like fags! metal is the present past and future! get sum baggy jeans and wipe the bludy makeup off ur face
No it isn't. Anyone who tells you it's a fashion is an idiot. Also no one listens to metal and wears baggy pants. Wigger hipsters wear baggy pants. You ever see the guys in Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy or Isis wear baggy pants? No because they aren't trendy douches. Also I take it you don't know what Corpse Paint is that's makeup worn by Death Metal and Black metal bands so maybe you should try to learn a thing or two about metal before you act like you know what it's about.
LISTEN, crysta, or should i say, little vlb whore. Rebecca's my friend, and nobody talks to my friends like that. You dont even know her, but yet you assume shit about her. Close your skanky fat looking self before you get caught into more drama. I've seen your videos, so dont dare call rebecca fat. You look like a skanky rich fat hooker that you find working her corner on the pakistanian streets. Try to shut your mouth next time, its just a video jesus christ, :)
this is the gayest shit ever, obviously an emo who hates their life made this dumb pointless video LOL!! all ugly losers who have weird peacock hairstyles like u hottopic and wear all black and listen to rock or punk or whatever the fuck that noise is, ur emo..get over it.
this is y ur emo: ur ugly, u have loser friends in school, u dont have any type of fashion sense, and u have a video dedicated to "hot emo boys" on ur page, yet ur not emo.. hmm..and ur right ur hair isnt peacock, it looks like a peacock took a shit on ur head ..matter of fact u looks like u have cancer LMFAO and obviously u do care if i think ur emo because u randomly sent me the link to this pointless video..dumbass =]
Um just becasuse i have a vid called hot emo people, dosnt mean im emo. Get it straight. I could be a prep and make one it dosnt mean im emo. You can never just get over the fact that im not. GROW UP your freakin 20 and pick on 15 year olds.
no one is picking on u, u sent me this video for God knows what reason, i wasnt even talking to ur ass.. and 15 is pretty grown to me btw..ur in hs and ur gonna cry about this shit LMFAO ur pretty pathethic..
Please go home. Did you watch the video? Do you have basic 2nd grade reading comprehension skills? Clearly you don't when you're posting retarded things like this.
I hate to be a genre nazi but I think you're getting Emotional Hardcore and Post-Hardcore mixed up, Emocore doesn't generally have any screaming in it, and it can be mixed with pop-punk, bands like Jimmy Eat World for example. Though Fall Out Boy isn't really emo at all... that label gets ignorantly used because Pete Wentz wears eyeliner...
Nope, Emocore is a false genre. Because Emo means Emotional Hardcore therefore Emocore would mean Emotional Hardcore Hardcore. Also Post-hardcore is pretty much any band that takes elements of hardcore and expands on them i.e. Thrice, At the Drive-In, Fugazi. Emo is far stricter, it wasn't always riddled with screaming but around 89 bands like Moss Icon expanded on the genre and incorporated more screaming and more complex instrumental performances Jimmy Eat World is an Indie/pop-punk band.
Jimmy Eat World, Indie? Are you serious? They are no where near indie, they are powerpop/pop-punk with Emocore, and yes Emocore is just another name for Emotive Hardcore or Emotional Hardcore, it's just a shortened version.
Sorry dude but no. SDRE are indie but Jimmy Eat world used to be an indie band and then they became a pop-punk band around the time they released Bleed American, the only remote connection they have to Emo is that they were influenced by SDRE who took influence from Fugazi a post-hardcore band who featured members of the first Emo bands from 84-86. Unless you can give me a sound progression of Rites of Spring to Moss Icon to Jimmy Eat World, which you can't then no they lose.
Listen to their voicing style in Bleed American they have the same style of speaking clearly related to Rites of Spring with a pop music backround. You have to open your ears to the sound, their old stuff isn't even indie either it's alternative rock
Haha, you're such a cunning word smith, tell me how has faece's developed a sexual orientation and why have you been slicing faeces? Hmm again as I've said to the other douches quick go buy some more pop music.
Well your quite the witty one. Just because this "music" isn't well known doesn't make it listenable. And if you like said "music" it doesn't mean that you have a higher musical knowledge. There is nothing musical about this genre.
That right there has proven you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, I wouldn't expect someone whose grown up listening to radio hits to understand the beauty of artistic music. Also I tke it you don't paly music, not only is the instrumentation in the majority of Emo relatively technical but their ability to create atomspheres is grand. In case you're interested go listen to Envy and then tell me they have no musical ability. Or you could go grab your 50 Cent albums and get down G.
I don't doubt that it's hard to play however just because something is really technical doesn't mean it's actually good music. Take Dragonforce for example they sound terrible but there shit is really technical. And once again just because I think this music sounds like shit doesn't mean that I listen to mainstream music I listen to a wide variety of music from Blues to metal and Jazz to Mathcore.
Yah, except that dragonforce aren't technical bexause they sit in a studio with a metronome and I can't understand how can listen to Mathcore and find this unlistenable seeing as bands like Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge are just as abrasive as these bands. Circle Takes the Sqaure is really good of course you may want to actually listen to a full song like Kill the Switch before judging and calling it gay sort of lowers your validity anyway.
The current people who incorrectly describe non emo bands as Emo think Emo stands for EMOlation! (see, not Immolation!) Oh how sad that play on words was, but I couldn't resist. Great video. Glad you spoke up intelligently without starting your video with, "yo, hold up, you call THIS emo???"
The get up kids are indie rock. Emo is and always has been emotive hardcore/emotional hardcore. It got heavier hence screamo the music in this vid. The reason bands like the Get Up Kids get called emo is because during the early 90's a bunch of indie bands claimed influence from Fugazi, Fugazi is made up of the two creators of emo Guy Piccioto and Ian Mackaye. But Fugazi isn't emo, a bunch of bands thought they were, then those bands got called emo and so on, but they aren't it must be hardcore.
This music is Emo, it's been Emo a lot longer than the word has been in popular usage. Poseurs are the type of people who listen to My Chemical Romance and call it emo.
This really doesn't have anything to do with this video, but do you know any rock songs where there is manic laughter in it?(Besides Master of puppets by metallica)like instead of screaming they just laugh like a mad man. Because I was thinking of starting a rock band that would be hardcore, but not screamo and maybe have me laughing like an insane person in some of the songs.
Can't say I do, however if you want hardcore music that isn't screaming and is kinda funny try the first 2 AFI albums Answer that and Stay Fashionable and Very Proud of Ya, that band used to be hilarious back in 1995.
Your video holds little to no persuasive value over the entirety of society(Huh, that could be a rock song title"entirety of society") and thus you have wasted you meager time. You and obviously very few other people know what true emo is and even with the power of the internet your message will not reach the ears of too many people to make a difference in society. Thank you for enlightening myself however.
Thing is a lot of people actually know this. There are entire websites, forums, etc. That dea with it. But the big problem is that kids who grow up listening to nothing but radio aren't ever going to consider other opinions. Hell when I was young I listened to some awful shit, but I learnt about other music, other people seem focused on listening to the same thing and that can't be helped, but if I only help a few people learn the difference I'll still be happy.
Wow, I'm one of those kids that listen to the radio to an extent. I put my alarm clock to the rock station when I wake up and they only play Three days grace, 5 fingered death punch, and some other bands. They're good bands, but I've already heard every single song at least twice and it irritates me that they won't find new songs. In school I take an art class that lets people play their own music while we draw and that introduced me to hippy rock and my Grandfather showed me country.
During P.E. the only music to get us "motivated" that they play is soulja boy(Song sucks so bad) and eye of the tiger. I also have a playlist that hasn't been updated for 5 years on this computer and it has lots of classic rock and weird Al and some other stuff. The fact is I actually listen to many kinds of music just not crap rap, some country..I will have to add Screamo to that list. I am VERY open minded about music I just don't like banjo's, rapping about Hos, and screamin their asses off.
Hah, yes that is the big problem with music today, too much is made for money and not enjoyment. If you're looking to get into Emo I'd suggest Rites of Spring or Sunny Day Real Estate because they're closer to alternative rock then the chaotic screaming here.
Ok real emo is whatever the fuck that song is(Which sounds like shit)I understand that, but no one gives a shit about what you know ok genres change a lot. Just look at heavy metal remember ACDC? yeah, they were heavy metal and listen to modern heavy metal it's completely different!
Media changed the term emo so deal with it. Emo now refers to songs from Evanescence or Boulevard of Broken Dreams from green day. It's not that screamo-shit that you have on this video anymore.
Genres do change, however what the media calls emo has no relation to the original genre. Metal has changed but that's why they have sub-genres, same with every thing. Emo is a sub genre of hardcore, in the 90's it changed to being a massivley chaotic sound referred to as Screamo or Skramz these days both of those kinds of emo are still around and a third group who combine the two sounds also exist look up Circle Takes The Square who are releasing an album next year real emo is till alive.
Eck, I listened to that band you talked about and I was thoroughly disappointed. They sound like they're making it up as they go and no one is in rhythm at least in the songs on this video the guitar and drums have rhythm(I just don't like screomo because it's seems like it takes absolutely no effort whatsoever just write notes for the instruments and then have the singers scream their asses off. It just has a half-assed feel to it and was not enjoyable at all.)
well i expected a good laugh... i got some info. want feedback? both emo mainstream and the emo hardcore are scum. witch is why we metalheads see someone fight danceing at a show and level them. think of it like a food chain. metalheads who listen to grindcore death metal ect. then power metal crap ect ect emo... know your role
Hahahaha, I take it you don't listen to much metal outside the basic shit. Also it's hilarious that you put grind next to Death metal because modern Screamo like the stuff in this vid is heavily influenced by Grind. And actually when you take the link between early Thrash and early Hardcore you can follow the musical tree to links between the genres. Also just a quick one mainstream "Emo" is pop-punk and pop-rock it has nothing in common with real emo, so please shutup.
Finally someone that understands that it's not a fashion... the people who call themselves emo are just following a scene trend that needs to vanish.

Doonug1 2 years ago
Emo people stand for Emotional. Emo music and Emo people can be almost compeletely differant.
Doonug1 2 years ago
There is no such thing as "emo people". It's a music genre and that's all it is. Just because a bunch of retards thought it meant people who wear to much eyeliner and have long fringes doesn't mean it's true. Emo is music and that's that.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
The original Emo was a music genre, but it has evolved and split off in to other things, even though the original music genre has stayed the same. I agree that it is a music genre, but it has evolved in to other things aswell.
Doonug1 2 years ago
It hasn't "evolved" because evolution implies that the new use of the term is somehow related to the original term. It's been used to Mislabel things, which inherently means it's incorrect. Evolution implies I can trace a line back to the original term and that can't be done when people insist that a fashion style and attitude are connected to a music genre that is completely against that crap.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
You can trace Emo back to original Emo music. I know loads of Emos that listen to it. Its like punk is a music genre aswell as a fashion. People who listened to Emo music started to dress a certain way, and were eventually called Emos themselves, and certain parts that Emo split off and changed in to Emo we know today.
Doonug1 2 years ago
Just because some kid told you otherwise doesn't mean they're right.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
Emo= Emotional(people) Emo=Emotive Hardcore(Music) Emo Music=Music that Emos listen to, not the Emo genre. But some of my friends do listen to circle takes the square.Emo IS a music genre, but IS ALSO a scene. Also Emos can wear whatever they want, just as long as they say their emo.Emo is lots of things now, not just Emotional Hardcore. Also unlesss you haven't noticed I am Emo, so its not like I'm gonna say no Emos is just a music genre.
Doonug1 2 years ago
You're a retard. There's no point trying to argue it. Accept the fact that you are wrong, you cannot be a music genre and no one will ever love you.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
The "Emo" you are thinking of is called scene dumbass. Big fucking difference.
ganstamannirvana93 2 years ago
Actually I'm thinking od Emo People and Emo music. Big fucking differance. I'm talking about both.
Doonug1 2 years ago
There is no such thing as Emo people, get that through your head. There are people who listen to Emo music(this stuff) but there's no such thing as Emo people.
ganstamannirvana93 2 years ago
You say that when you're talking to one and most of us get bullied to shit for who we are. Obviously ther rest of the world agree with you so much.
Doonug1 2 years ago
8JobForAMexican8 1 year ago
OK um there are lots of differant types of Emo, going from Emo/scremo music, Emo music, and Emo People. Some people think that Emo originated from Morrisy fans, and people call music like Simple Plan Emo because Emos listen to it, so sometimes it can be called Emo music. Emo/scremo is another type of Emo music, but then you woudn't call alot of scremo bands Emo. Also you get Emo people, who do listen to both types of music, but Emo people does not stand for Emotional hardcore.
Doonug1 2 years ago
I have no idea what you just said. But I'm going to assume that you're disputing my information. Emo=Emotional Hardcore. End of story. No opinions, no nothing. It's a music genre it started in the 80's it has nothing to do with bands like Simple Plan and it is not a fashion style. That simple.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
I hate the way u try to prove ur point ...well good PEOPLE WAS WRONG but just shut the fuck up ..like if u know everything little piece of human ;) just because u know about emotional hardcore... dont hav to be proovn it to the damn world. what an ignorant.
Britsvoicelooklike 2 years ago
Whilst it took me a few read throughs to understand that horrendous comment, I get the point. But oh wait, I live in a democracy and as such I can say whatever I feel like saying. And yes it does need to be explained to the idiots who run around misusing the term. You think Isaac Newton discovered gravity and decided to just let it be? No. I know about Emo, 98% of people who use the term don't. They need to be educated. Simple fact.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
I agree with most of what you`re saying, but screamo isn`t emocore, two completly different genres.
Sinnassty 2 years ago
Well not really, they're very similar music being that one was created by the other. Also don't use Emocore, Emo already mean's Emotional Hardcore, so Emocore would Be Emotional Hardcore Hardcore. The point being if you take a band like Moss Icon you can see how that band syncs up with a band like Saetia, there are mass similarities but Moss Icon are called emo and Saetia get called Screamo. Really what separates them musically? Added chaos. That's about it.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
Its called emocore...
listen to mineral or something.
Sinnassty 2 years ago
It's called Emo and there's no hardcore in Mineral. Matter of fact there isn't any hardcore in any of those mid-west indie bands that get called emo. Emotive Hardcore; the keyword is Hardcore. If it doesn't have hardcore then it isn't Emo. Emocore is a redundant term, seeing as Emo is the standard abbreviation for Emotive Hardcore, the suffix -core in Emocore is uneccessary.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
I know what you`re saying.
But the genre is called emocore...
Sinnassty 2 years ago
No it isn't. The only people who use that term are idiots.

8JobForAMexican8 1 year ago
@8JobForAMexican8 underoath is a great band they are an alternative-christian band. Just because something is alternative doesn't mean they are emo. Underoath is mainstream because they are all over the internet and on the radio. Underground bands are underground. Emo is underground music for the most part. The rites of spring hold the beginning of emo.

rainthetoontownlover 2 years ago
I've noticed that most people who listen to real emo/screamo usually come across as quite intelligent on internet message boards. Coincidence?
severalgecko 2 years ago
I would definitely say that intelligence does relate rather directly to the genre, I suppose you could say that you need a certain level of understanding to really appreciate the music e.g. A lot of casual listeners are never really going to understand deep lyrics because they don't really go beyond seeing lyrics as words to a song, which is why there isn't ever going to be a night club that plays Saetia, so I'd say yes intelligence does link to appreciating this genre.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
I agree with you 90% of the way. Your only false statement is that Scremo and Emo are synonymous. Not quite. Emo is truly defined by bands such as the Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Realestate, and Jimmy Eat World (although RoS sounds nothing like the other two.) Screamo has a much more agressive sound than emo.
And regarding these "emo kids". You're absolutely right- they're not emo. I prefer to call them "Nightmare Before Christmas Fanatics" or just "Burtons" for short (like Tim Burton).
trevor512 2 years ago
In terms of the screamo v. emo thing it's more in this current time. Bands like Circle Takes the Square and Kidcrash are somewhat of a middle ground which makes separating the tags rather pointless. But yeah I agree with what you're saying/ personally I prefer scenester/scene kid or mall goth when describing those annoying kids.

pop-ppunk does not exist!!!!!
pop is the opposite of punk that is imposible
emptyness7 2 years ago
No it isn't. Pop literally means popular and if you consider pop an actual genre of music it's more or less; accessible, catchy music that can be played on the radio. Effectively the Offspring are catchy, accessible and get played on the radio but they're also very much a punk band. As such bands like the Offspring, Blink-182, Greenday, Saves the Day, etc. are all pop-punk bands. I know that punk started as a rebellion against poppy music but that doesn't mean you can't combine the two.
iamstillasleep34 2 years ago
but see this i love saves the day and punk is agressive for example What i love the most - saves the day can be punk but for example freakish... is it pop-punk???
emptyness7 2 years ago
Yes. Everything Saves the Day ever wrote is pop-punk. And that isn't a bad thing. Look at it this way, Punk originally meant "rebel" but after people began associating it with certain bands it became a descriptor for the sound of those bands. Same withe very genre.

Yeah, but you can't really do anything about that. Fact of the matter is he pioneered a sound that went on to influence an entire genre. It's no different to any genre really. e.g. Death created Death Metal but they never really liked the term.

Are you a guy who thinks that his little shitty life revolves around emotive music, and is jelouse off all these bitch ass emo kids in their skinny jeans, checkered shirts, either realy wild cool hair, or buzzin greasy wanna be hair doo's?
MyJoshh 3 years ago
Punk has existed as word for close to a millenium and has been synonymous to the word rebel for about 200 of those years. Gangster has been used to refer to anyone in a gang since te 1910's. Al Capone was a gangster and rap wasn't around in 1930's Vegas douche. Also I know it's been around since DC in 86. But it's not crappy pop-punk bands like Escape the Fate. Not to mention that Emo is a subgenre of Hardcore which is a subgenre of Punk so someone who listens to Emo would be a punk idiot.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Rofl i know gangsters orgiginated from gans, but im talking about the way gangsters are today you freakin nerd
And music genras have changed around since the 80's you know, and escape the fate arnt realy emo, MCR are definatly not emo, nor is fall out boy
But because so many emo/scene kids listen to them allso much, we're starting to change the way the 'emo' label off music is seen, you gotta accept CHANGE ffs. everything does. punk, 200 years? Lol. never knew they had mo-hawks back then *Lol*
MyJoshh 3 years ago
First off I know ou dumbshits are trying to change the word. But you're wrong, if you change the word to mean something else then what are you going to call Modern Emo bands like Circle takes the Square?
Also stop associating the term gangster with black people. Tell a member of the mafia that they act like some petty street thug and they'll torch your balls off.
And Mohawks have existed since the days of ancient Rome douche. Also prior to 1812 punk used to mean Homosexual.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Al Capone was active in Chicago, not Vegas.
Escape The Fate is a clothing line with a soundtrack, not a band.
Apart from that, pretty much agreed.
notyourmartyr 3 years ago
Fair enough about Capone. I'd probably go as far as saying Escape the Fate is a Soap Opera with a soundtrack and clothing line.

kingoftheswing22 3 years ago
No it isn't. Anyone who tells you it's a fashion is an idiot. Also no one listens to metal and wears baggy pants. Wigger hipsters wear baggy pants. You ever see the guys in Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy or Isis wear baggy pants? No because they aren't trendy douches. Also I take it you don't know what Corpse Paint is that's makeup worn by Death Metal and Black metal bands so maybe you should try to learn a thing or two about metal before you act like you know what it's about.

AskingForIt182 3 years ago
Nope, Emocore is a false genre. Because Emo means Emotional Hardcore therefore Emocore would mean Emotional Hardcore Hardcore. Also Post-hardcore is pretty much any band that takes elements of hardcore and expands on them i.e. Thrice, At the Drive-In, Fugazi. Emo is far stricter, it wasn't always riddled with screaming but around 89 bands like Moss Icon expanded on the genre and incorporated more screaming and more complex instrumental performances Jimmy Eat World is an Indie/pop-punk band.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Jimmy Eat World, Indie? Are you serious? They are no where near indie, they are powerpop/pop-punk with Emocore, and yes Emocore is just another name for Emotive Hardcore or Emotional Hardcore, it's just a shortened version.
If you want Indie look up Sunny Day Real Estate
AskingForIt182 3 years ago
Sorry dude but no. SDRE are indie but Jimmy Eat world used to be an indie band and then they became a pop-punk band around the time they released Bleed American, the only remote connection they have to Emo is that they were influenced by SDRE who took influence from Fugazi a post-hardcore band who featured members of the first Emo bands from 84-86. Unless you can give me a sound progression of Rites of Spring to Moss Icon to Jimmy Eat World, which you can't then no they lose.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Listen to their voicing style in Bleed American they have the same style of speaking clearly related to Rites of Spring with a pop music backround. You have to open your ears to the sound, their old stuff isn't even indie either it's alternative rock

iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Well your quite the witty one. Just because this "music" isn't well known doesn't make it listenable. And if you like said "music" it doesn't mean that you have a higher musical knowledge. There is nothing musical about this genre.
taberman 3 years ago
That right there has proven you don't know what the fuck you're talking about, I wouldn't expect someone whose grown up listening to radio hits to understand the beauty of artistic music. Also I tke it you don't paly music, not only is the instrumentation in the majority of Emo relatively technical but their ability to create atomspheres is grand. In case you're interested go listen to Envy and then tell me they have no musical ability. Or you could go grab your 50 Cent albums and get down G.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
I don't doubt that it's hard to play however just because something is really technical doesn't mean it's actually good music. Take Dragonforce for example they sound terrible but there shit is really technical. And once again just because I think this music sounds like shit doesn't mean that I listen to mainstream music I listen to a wide variety of music from Blues to metal and Jazz to Mathcore.
taberman 3 years ago

JenniferOcious79 3 years ago
yo, hold up. Not all emo is screaming, for instance, would you call the get up kids emo?
A lot of this sounds like refused/fear before. they ain't emo.
Like Antioch Arrow and that kinda stuff is the hard emo
boilingbubbles 3 years ago
The get up kids are indie rock. Emo is and always has been emotive hardcore/emotional hardcore. It got heavier hence screamo the music in this vid. The reason bands like the Get Up Kids get called emo is because during the early 90's a bunch of indie bands claimed influence from Fugazi, Fugazi is made up of the two creators of emo Guy Piccioto and Ian Mackaye. But Fugazi isn't emo, a bunch of bands thought they were, then those bands got called emo and so on, but they aren't it must be hardcore.

iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
This really doesn't have anything to do with this video, but do you know any rock songs where there is manic laughter in it?(Besides Master of puppets by metallica)like instead of screaming they just laugh like a mad man. Because I was thinking of starting a rock band that would be hardcore, but not screamo and maybe have me laughing like an insane person in some of the songs.
HAJS5 3 years ago
Can't say I do, however if you want hardcore music that isn't screaming and is kinda funny try the first 2 AFI albums Answer that and Stay Fashionable and Very Proud of Ya, that band used to be hilarious back in 1995.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Your video holds little to no persuasive value over the entirety of society(Huh, that could be a rock song title"entirety of society") and thus you have wasted you meager time. You and obviously very few other people know what true emo is and even with the power of the internet your message will not reach the ears of too many people to make a difference in society. Thank you for enlightening myself however.
HAJS5 3 years ago
Thing is a lot of people actually know this. There are entire websites, forums, etc. That dea with it. But the big problem is that kids who grow up listening to nothing but radio aren't ever going to consider other opinions. Hell when I was young I listened to some awful shit, but I learnt about other music, other people seem focused on listening to the same thing and that can't be helped, but if I only help a few people learn the difference I'll still be happy.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
Wow, I'm one of those kids that listen to the radio to an extent. I put my alarm clock to the rock station when I wake up and they only play Three days grace, 5 fingered death punch, and some other bands. They're good bands, but I've already heard every single song at least twice and it irritates me that they won't find new songs. In school I take an art class that lets people play their own music while we draw and that introduced me to hippy rock and my Grandfather showed me country.
HAJS5 3 years ago
During P.E. the only music to get us "motivated" that they play is soulja boy(Song sucks so bad) and eye of the tiger.
HAJS5 3 years ago
Hah, yes that is the big problem with music today, too much is made for money and not enjoyment. If you're looking to get into Emo I'd suggest Rites of Spring or Sunny Day Real Estate because they're closer to alternative rock then the chaotic screaming here.
iamstillasleep34 3 years ago
ah yes, those bands are better. They aren't great(In my opinion), but they're better then the screamo stuff.

If someone says something calmly you scream at them, yet when I say something angry you act all calm...Wow, I'm such a douche.
