Heart disease... Sadly Larry Norman didn't live long enough to see 2011! In our circles, Diabetes, Heart and Cardiovascular Disease are a non-issue for people suffering with those conditions, I could have helped spare him of such an untimely demise without drugs or surgery. :(
If only he had lived long enough, he could have lived another 30+ years totally disease free with my help.
Even as an atheist I can say I always liked this guy !! Because he was such a great human being . I always saw his humanity and not his religion . I shared his love of guitar music !! He could be scathingly witty about trad religious ideas and behaviours he was one on his own !! I was sorry to hear he died of dire heart disease . He could not get treatment as his insurance had lapsed. I think perhaps he trusted God just a little too much !!
i never met this brother but, i know i will. we played Left Behind video so many times throughout the years in our Churches, and the song I Wish We'd All Been Ready, from way back in the 70s. what a song of the Rapture of Jesus Christ of the Church. wow!!! Larry ran his race fast!!! and good!!!
I was working for cardiologists in the early 90's when Larry came in to see the doctor. I was the only Christian in the office and I knew who he was before I saw his name...he was easy to recognize if you knew CCM. He gave everyone in the office free CD's and was a great blessing. An inspiring man who loved the Lord. I'm grateful and honored to have met him.
@heylovehey302 I think I met your dad in the early 80's dude - he was a great guitar player, I can't remember whose tour it was (maybe Stonehill) but I remember talking to him before or after a show. I think I did the lighting for it, not sure now. He was a nice guy also, by the way. Sorry you lost him so early, my heart goes out to you. (Drew's Dad Jason)
I met Larry in 1983 .I went to one of his concerts in Dallas ,Texas. I was allowed backstage and met Larry. I know he had to be busy, but do you know what he did? He spent about an hour and a half talking to me about Jesus. I've never forgotten that. He was such a down to earth, wonderful person. I just learned of his passing today...or maybe I should say his graduation to paradise. Y'know Heaven is rockin' now! Love you Larry, thanks for touching all our lives with God's message! Steve
Met Larry at Borders on 9/9/99 in Salem where i was living at the time. great guy. took a photo with him an LOST THE FILM...DOE...!!!!! I'll never forgive myself...I'll miss him as much as anyone i';ve known...I am looking for the "UFO" all the time now...There will never again be another Larry Norman.... NEVER....
Wow! I didn't know Frank Black went to visit him in the hospital! I knew Frank grew up listening to his music, but I didn't know he was big enough of a fan to do something like this! That is quite a sweet gesture, I think. Good man, Frank/Charles/Francis/whatever you want to be called!
Love the guilt trip from pogostixx... FYI.... I been purchasing Larry's stuff for years. He would have been able to afford better medical care had his country valued every human life enough to provide health care to people regardless of the size of their paycheck or the name of their family. I loved you Larry... I know you're really happy where you are... thanks for everything.
Nice bash on the USA! How do you know that Larry death was due (in any way) to his inability to pay for health care? This was a VERY offensive comment that shows little knowledge of the USA. By the way, I am an American living in the UK and for all your trust in Gov runned health care, I am frankly very scared to get sick here. I KNOW OF people who have died waiting for specialist care and surgery. I have NEVER heard of that happening in the USA.
In fairness, it is true that Larry couldn't afford to get certain medical care. People definately do die here, waiting for transplants, or very expensive treatments, often for finacial reasons. The question remains how to get everyone the best care possible. It remains true as always, the wealthy do have options that the poor or even middle class don't. Its a good conversation to have, and something has to happen, in my opinion if our goal is to treat everyone. But, how to pay for it...?
Not that this is the place for extended discussion, but socialized medicine is NOT the answer. You will get medical care when they can see you, not based on need. Ask people that have been seriously ill in countries like the UK and Ca.
I met Larry in Cornerstone 2000, and he signed some albums of mine. Each of the signatures are identical, but none of them are readable, and they certainly do not read "Larry Norman". I will go my grave wondering what he wrote. Maybe I'll do a little you tube video someday, and show them to you all, and maybe one of you could tell me what it says. ...It was kind of strange when he did that. It's not a bible reference either, by the way. I will always dig Larry, but he was a rare bird, wasn't he?
I met Larry Norman after a show in '86 at Wolfgang's in SF. He told me he didn't like signing autographs, but he agreed to take my picture with him. He gave me a Perrier. Thank you brother.
I saw Larry Norman in Deerfield Illinois in the Winter of 1973-74. I remember him stopping playing in order to ask people not to clap, so people could hear the words to his music. His music will live on until the Lord returns. Thanks Larry.
How sad. I know if we had purchased his CDs before he died, he would have had better medical care and possibly been spared. I knew he was ill and purchased many CDs from Solid Rock. Too late now. I suggest you buy some of his music so his estate could upgrade his gravesite. So long dear brother.
My first Christian album was Larry Norman's "In another Land".. its effect on my life was dramatic. Thank you Larry for sharing your love of Jesus in such a "Real" way. You will be greatly missed but you will never be forgotten.

I REALLY appreciate the posting of this video. It helps to see him in the hospital and by doing so maybe somehow share his (and his family's) pain and limitations during those last days. And Larry was all about, "this is who I am, I'm not going to pretend" and then praising God for it. Larry still has a sense of humor during his darkest hours, what a lesson for all of us and I am sure he would have written song about it had he been able. Thank you Lord for your imperfect, but willing servant.
Larry Norman, thanks for all the great inspiring Songs, my christian walk from young wouldnt be the same and helped me follow jesus, well Done Good and Faithful servant
