@tonyf734atl it IS on the released version of "Ticket to Ride" Vocally and musically it is the same just played a bit faster on the movie which i also have :) :)
I know this film was panned--& perhaps deserrvedly so, but that said, I absolutely loved Cythia Gibb & her portrayal of Karen Capenter. Cynthia was spot-on perfect, at least when she was singing Karen';s songs, & for that alone, the film is worth watching. Wolfsky9
I keep repeating 2:39 to 2:55 cause I like this version of "all of my life" and karen sings it with a lot of emotion..... (sigh with a romantic imagination with a man)
@Crimson0089 There are several pop artists, or have been, whose material doesn't interest me but I like their voices and the general production. With the Carpenters, I just unfocus from the content and listen to the amazing qualities of the productions. I live in France now and there's a lot of great music here I just like the sound of. Ditto for a recent visit to Turkey.
@slobomotion I know and just know that most artist that passes away young are usually great singers who had many people to listen to them and hear him or her share there songs and emotions to the world :)
I loved the movie, flaws and all. I just liked the idea of knowing a little about her rise to stardom. Surely, since Richard was involved, it wasn't that far off base, huh?
it is always about the sons; the daughter doesn't exist. If she does, she MUST NOT be better, or even equal to the sons.Basically, the daughter does not exist. She was an afterthought...why do you think so many female babies in developing economies are aborted or drowned? If one is a younger sister, it is anathema to be in any way more remarkable than one's male sibling.Richard Carpenter was soul devoured and soul murdering in his envy: consciously or not he shared resposibility 4 her death.
There were no mistakes in this movie. I think it hit too close to home for Richard. To this day, the surviving Carpenters have not been able to acknowledge their own actions in causing Karen's anorexia. I never see them donating any money to help others with anorexia, either. They are a cold family without a clue. She was a sweet person and they killed her spirit.
I would love to see this movie released as a DVD worldwide;with remastered picture and sound quality with a brand new dolby surround 2.0 mix on sound;on CBS in the states it was broadcast in stereo.
I think if Karen Carpenter saw that hideous wig on Cynthia Gibb (1:05-1:11) she would turn over in her grave...what is that??? It looks like a rat's nest. I don't think this portrayal does justice to Karen.
@akapitaRN LOL!! I was sitting here thinking the same thing. They couldn't find a more natural looking wig? In my Grandmother's words, "That wig looks like they bought from Woolworths!"
@UltimateKarenTribute You are so full of shit, UKT.....Yes, I am sure Richard is going to give you authorization to play their music in another movie production....Get a life, Naknuts, UKT, Julie Soledad Luna, or whoever you are going to be this week.
BUT, MAYBE YOU COULD SHOW US, ALL THE COCAINE AND OTHER PILLS YOU USE. TO THEN MASTURBATE, WHILE YOU PLAY CARPENTERS VIDEOS HERE, WITH YOUR FUCKING OBSESSION
@UltimateKarenTribute It's impossible to have a an intelligent conversation with someone who definitely hase some MENTAL issues and also does not have a grasp of the English language and can only express herself with such a limited vocabulary.....Your ranting and raving makes you look demented,
Where to begin... This movie is so flawwed its not funny.. Even Richard Carpenter has come out and stated that " it was one of the worst mistakes I have ever made. I wish I have never done it.." and that its is more or less " 90 minutes of docu-drama.. With about 5 minutes of actual truth in it.."
yeah i've seen stuff about the carpenters on youtube & this movie doesn't make sense with some of the other stuff i've seen but i still like this movie
It is not supposed to be funny. She died from Anorexia. Yes, Richard might regret doing it but it is the truth. SHE HAD ANOREXIA. What do you mean 5 Minutes of it makes sense? You are a Karen Carpenter fan you should like this movie.
What my point is... This movie does not do Karen's life justice.. Her story deserves to be told in a far better way. There are a number of complete ommissions or lies in this movie. The two biggest that come to mind are the fact that her solo album, while Richard was not happy about it he did give Karen his blessing to go to NYC and record it while he was in rehab for his pill addiction. In the movie we are led to believe that after the argument that they had it was aborted.
Also the name of Karen's husband was changed from Tom Burris in real life to Bob Knight, During the counselling session when the doctor tries to get Agnes to tell Karen that she loves her and she resists. In real life when that happened Agnes did just that.. She moved across the room and sat beside Karen and told her that she loved her daughter. Karen broke down in tears and the two woman hugged and cried together for almost ten minutes.
Also Karen was never actually divorced from her husband as stated in the movie. She was seperated and in the process of divorcing Tom ( Bob) and was due to sign her divorce papers on the afternoon of the day she died. The fainting on stage we see during a concert, never happened in real life... These are just some of the glaring falsehoods that are contained within this movie...
@Carpentersfan2003 Richard Carpenter was certainly a crappy producer then, if he couldn't produce more than five minutes of facts in a movie about his life. That aside, Karen's voice was one of the purest ever of anyone born on this earth.
@runly1 It was not that he was a crappy producer it was the fact that he refused to allow anything to make his mother look bad. The fact was Agnes Carpenter was really a bad mother. While she claimed to be proud of both her kids, Richard was her favorite and Karen's talent was just a lucky happenstance, she was unable to show any care or compassion to her daughter and refused to believe that Karen had an eating disorder even with the evidence right under her nose...
@APRIL62318 I highly reccomend that you read the book "Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter." by Randy Schimt.. If you want to know Karen's real story that is the book to read, once your finished it you will understand exactly what I mean when I said Agnes Carpenter was not the best motherin the world...
@APRIL62318 Little Girl Blue contains quotes from Karen's closest friends and confidants. People like Olivia Newton-John, Dorothy Hamill and Cherry Boone-O'Neil along with Eleven Wallace (The Carpenters personal secretary) and Karen's two closest friends Karen Ramon and Frenda Leffler, who where both witness to Agnes' complete disregard for her daughter.
while this movie may be flawed in some way because no one knows the truth about karen except richard carpenter and the rest of the family. however the story of karen carpenter should be a wake up call to those who are obssed with looking perfect like models and movie stars.
it is important to remember that even movie stars are not perfect and they have to eat right and excercise there is one thing they have that many people the right money for plastic surgery.
@Carpentersfan2003 I've been associated with the music industry for decades and without even looking or wanting to hear it, I keep hearing very, very creepy and dark stuff about this family. Never in detail, people clam right up.
This film has inspired me to loose two stone but I did it the healthy way
