  • just got one from a yard sale and i'm glad that you did this video. i will let you know how it turns out.

AWESOME! Will look forward to hearing if the tips helped.

    Cheers!

  • I think you'd bust the metal faceplate bending it up more than once or twice in its life -- but I had better luck getting the screws out than you though -- I think yours was probably reassembled too tightly at some point in its life. It was a prick to hold all three lens elements in place while you get it back on though... Thanks a lot for the vid.

  • some ammonia and warm water is best for getting exterior clean, esp nicotine.... just cleaned my Hawkeye with flash

  • your washer is normal. Mine is the same. No need to get a new one, because there must be a reason for the waviness in it?

  • I've just bought & cleaned a few of these Brownie Hawkeyes myself. The easiest thing to remove and clean, is the lens itself. The two screws on the inside of the camera I've had no problems with at all. BTW, the washer that's under the lens is supposed to be bent like that. When cleaning the front elements, I prefer not to remove the top 2 (long) screws and just remove the front 2 & bend the face plate up to get access to the viewfinder lens & protective glass cover, which I remove and clean.

I think I will do it your way next time. The screws at the top sucked to get out.

  • Your washer is normal. It's a press fit washer.
