I remember being in Houston once when the AA 727 or super 80 (I cant remember which) I was on did a did a self powerback. It was my first and last experience of said self pushback, it was such a strange felling. Do they still do this type of thing in the US these days?

Actually the Boeing 727 can do a powerback. I saw one of TWA's 727s do it at Houston IAH went tugs weren't available.
