No, it's completely legit. Metroid Prime 1 & 2 are both heading for Wii with updated controls. Pikmin 1 & 2, Donkey Kong and some more too.

That fight is one of those 'eleventh hour superpower' type fights where you get a superweapon and use it to kill the boss. Like Mother brain when you get Hyperbeam.

Metroids have a queen that produces eggs and these are obviously produced by Metroid Prime so there would be no reason for mating. lol

I have a thing when fighting Metroid Prime. :D When he shoots his laser or isn't moving, boostball past him, and he doesn't notice and carries on as if you are still where you were! When he starts moving side to side though, you get sucked back, and you can't stop it.

I've read about this happening. It happens when you kill two at the same time ans they respawn on the same spot.
