PSH. Forget 'execution and poise'. Despite any one's likely undeserved pompousness, this man is AMAZING. Is he even human?
I for one am glad this is posted, and the title is an understatement. I've never seen anything like it. I doubt there IS anything like it. SOME people need to peddle their arrogance elsewhere and stop trolling the comment page.
@CassidyMcComb2010 - well the forward twisting pass is so quick I can't really be sure. Either way his technique is amazing. And the 2.5 punch front punch front full is also rather nifty!
The floor is sprung but like the springboard and vaulting tables they don't actually 'spring' a gymnast into the air they absorb the shock which allows the gymnast to punch off harder.
Charlie Tamayo will be competing again-he is working towards 2012-his first meet is July 11-national qualifier-he is looking for a sponsor or donations. whatever u say kid. let me know next time you're at woodward west and we'll meet up with charlie so he can show u what's up. or at nationals this year when the optional boys team that i coach comes and stomps all over you... oh wait, you don't know shit and probably will never make it to JO nationals. sorry.
Don't get me wrong, Charlie performed some very nice tumbling passes. But this isn't a great floor exercise. He didn't stick a single landing, and he didn't even hold his planche. Pretty cool for the average person to watch, but not a great routine.
you must be new to the sport. you're a pretentious, pompous asshole. charlie is one of the best tumblers in the world, and you just put that routine down... do you know anything about gymnastics???? and he held his planche for long enough. you only need 2 seconds, so why hold longer and waste energy?
whatever u say kid. let me know next time you're at woodward west and we'll meet up with charlie so he can show u what's up. or at nationals this year when the optional boys team that i coach comes and stomps all over you... oh wait, you don't know shit and probably will never make it to JO nationals. sorry.
it is irrelevent how good he is or isn't. this was not a spectacular routine. gymnasts at that level all have tricks, it is about the execution and poise. As a fellow coach you should know this. by the way i won nationals on the highbar when i was 17. i am not sure who you are intimidating but the rules of gymnastics doesnt change. 'A floor routine by charlie tomayo' that would be more appropriate. another video with better execution would allow the present name. until then dont troll youtube
oh shut up you pretentious douche. how many congresses have you attended? how many judges clinics? that's what i though. zero. coach? okay good job you can tell rec kids to go do straight jumps on the tumbl trak. let me know when your team boys and girls compete with the likes of steve and steven rybacki's. have fun googling who they are.
Nothing. I'm a men's judge, I judge routines. Just neutrally commenting on Tamayo's routine in the video.
I have no problem with Tamayo at all. I've seen his routines in person, and they're awesome. All I did was provide a breakdown of the video for those interested.
Part of the problem with civil discourse (or lack thereof) is that, in seeking to reply, people don't read the entirety of comments.
i have attended many coaches clinics and go to 'jump fest' every year. this is a summer program much like woodward. jordan jovtchev goes (or has gone) and through this i know him pretty well. if he had a poor or average routine, which happens, i would say so, without hesitation. i know charlie is good but that has nothing to do with the discussion. look at it objectively and you will see.
actually YOU must be new to the sport. I've been watching his training videos and he is certainly an amazing gymnast and does things than many gymnasts wouldn't even dream of doing. But after watching those videos and seing the title here i was thinking i'd watch something phenominal, but this is what you can expect from most elite gymnasts from around the world and i expected more. Don't abuse me for saying that, because it is true. I may not coach World champions but my opinion is a valid one.

Charle is trying to get his citizenship so he can compete. The process is taking longer than it should and may keep him from being able to compete. We are trying to convince a US Senator to sponsor private legislation. Would anyone be interested in signing a petition of support?
I'd definitely sign. The current attitude towards discrimination is despicable. I know there was special legislation used to allow Tanith Belbin (ice dancer) her citizenship to compete for USA. Something about "special abilities" consideration? Would that work for Charlie?
We're working on "private legislation" but not having much luck. Senator Feinstein wasn't interested and now we're working with Senator Ken Salazar, but this is a tough climate politically to try and get private legislation on an immigration issue. If I get a petition together I'll let you know

This is a CLUB team, which isn't supposed to be at the elite level. The skills that he's competing are way beyond the abilities of most club athletes. I LOVE his arabian double layout. That's one skill that I doubt any man will compete at the elite level.
I hate to burst your bubble, but Daiane Dos Santos of Brazil, Todd Thornton did it at 2006 US Nationals, and Diego Hypolito debuted a double pike arabian full-out, this guy is still amazing though, he was a medallist on vault at 2001 Worlds
Let me rephrase what I said... I doubt any one will compete this skill WELL at the elite level. Dos Santos's Arabian dlo was only performed well once... and I'm pretty sure she's stopped competing it. I think Tamayo should start training again for elites. He's amazing.
what would him not being a us citizen have to do with him going elite....have you ever heard of the olympics? thats when people from all over the world do gymnastics together...and a lot of those people are not us citizens. i really hope i just misunderstood what your trying to say
ha you're so good at sarcasm, eric. he was exiled from cuba and now he lives in the states but since he's not a US citizen, he can't be on the US National team and by the time he gets his citizenship, he'll be too old to do anything he used to do anyway.

1) Double twisting double back tucked
2) 2.5 twisting back layout - punch front - punch front full
3) Double twisting front layout
4) Double back piked
Not an overly difficult routine. Certainly up there though. Very powerful, very light in the air and near stuck landings.

ok dd8yf for you info tha rutine is made with only 2 months of trainning and is about 3 year ago thank you you will see charlie tamayo soon thank you
charltes 2 years ago
I know.
Hence why I explicitly said "[a]lthough not built for the new Code . . . ".
And I'm looking forward to judging Tamayo. I know he's good; I'm just providing a breakdown of the routine on video.
dd8yf 2 years ago
(Disclaimer: nationally-certified men's judge)
Although not built for the new Code, here's the current breakdown on the routine:
Double double tuck E
Back 2.5, front tuck, front 1/1 D+A+C
Front 2/1 D
Russian 900 B
Straddle planche A
Double back pike C
dd8yf 2 years ago
Comment removed
dd8yf 2 years ago
Difficulty:
1 E = 0.5
2 D = 0.8
2 C = 0.6
1 B = 0.2
4 A = 0.4
total = 2.5
Categories: missing IV, partial dismount = 1.8
D-score: = 2.5 + 1.8 + 0.1 (connection) = 4.4
Also, some simple steps that would be deducted 0.1 each.
