lol, funny to see that there are still noobs using the word rendering wrong, this is not a rendering, but an extraction with the help of a mask, and accuatly a pretty bad one, why dont you use the tool made for this? its called extraction, like the name of the technique..
no, rendering is the procedure of making something look more realistic. Google 'what is rendering'. This video shows how to use the pen tool, and it should be titled accordingly.
@OakdeneCoops whatever the real meaning of rendering is, people using photoshop generally use the term rendering to refer to cutting out an image and eliminating the background completely.
srs, I got a very helpful tip for ya. When u have a circular shape you can render 90 degrees (or less) with 2 anchor points. Just click on the top of the ball, then click on the right side of the ball, hold your mouse when doing the right side of the ball, then move around your mouse a bit and make the line fit around 1/4 of the ball. This only works for an angle of 90 degrees or less. Do it 5 times and ur finished. goes a lot fast and is neat as well. Hope this helps you, saves lot of time^^
Aah ok. But most people who use photoshop are clever enough not to get confused by the pentool haha xD. But even for complicated things I would use the trick with the circular selection most of the time. A car for instance has many round shapes in it.
yeah kinda makes sense. to use the quickest way possible
why did you label the tut. "render in ps"? isnt rendering the process of lest say making something shiny look shiny? what you did is just masking/cuting out?!
Just select the area with the lasso tool, go to filter and do sharpen->sharpen. It will increase the contrast in ur area and make the area look sharper. You can also do other things with the lasso tool and filter, just try ^^
Or select the thing you want to make shiny with the pentool, then duplicate the selection and try some effects, the dupilcated layer must be above the original to work.
i got bored... talking boring... sighing... plus, expand to like pictures that has like a circle that also need cut out, like a gun from a game... like the handle or something... then a background behind it
choose an easier object next time!

On the basketball, the circle selection tool would have done all that a lot faster an neater.

You should've used the magnetic lasso to trace the ball.

i know i was just showing it that way so when rendering more complicated things someone wouldn't be confused.

I could do that in a fraction of the time and so could you if you knew how to use the pentool properly.
