Very strong and I would have to say the best line up of Jefferson Starship.  Dunbar is always sweet on drums. This is a very sharp version of Jane!

Grace Slick wrote in her memoirs about this appearance. Apparently, just before the show, she received a phone call that her mother had died! Because it was so close to air time, she couldn't back out and had to perform. In fact, apart from Kantner, she didn't tell any of her band mates the news until after the taping. In hindsight, Slick does look like she's struggling to smile and keep from crying.

Her mother didn't die until 1984 she said in her memoir. This was taped in 1981.

if you check her book again, her mother died a few years late. It was before a Solid Gold TV performance.

@blackirishcowboy Not sure where you heard this but Grace's Dad passed away in 1984 & her Mom in 1987.
