slip slidin" away, slip slidin" a-way...ya know the nearer your disintegration the more--HELP! i'm faded fast, need some agua por-favor. sorrey mi english is lacking--click..Hey,wha.. please deposit 50 cents or your connection will be terminated....beep,beep,beep....jackie gleason help me out, i beseech you,and u and u.. got a dollar (gotta make this call)?
Ahhh, to be nineteen again, hearing this for the first time on the old CKLW, then rushing out to buy the single, playing it over and over until I knew the words by heart....
My internet is slow and it's not playing but I can hear it in my head. Remember being in Richway on Independence Blvd around 9 years old and crying thinking about that poor pony. What an awesome song! Now I'm not even sure I want to hear it, don't want to cry! And here it is...
Finally the real version with the beautiful piano intro and outro as it appeared on the Blue Sky Night Thunder album in 1975. Not the chopped off version radio played.
I wonder if Larry Cansler composed the piano parts. Billboard's #39 song for '75. Michael hit #1 AC, #3 pop in Billboard. Backed vocally by a couple members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. God bless!
Hi Chris--I was thinking the same thing--the music sounded a little different to me....more intricate on this version...richer. But maybe it's me. Well anyway---it's still super Ron. Loved it!
@LousFool- thanks Marilyn, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Like I said to Chris- it's possible the radio version was shortened since this version is almost 5 minutes long. In the 60s and possibly 70s, long versions were kind of frowned upon by radio programmers. I took this version directly from the 1975 LP I have! Take care, Ron
@bze2nlz1- I don't really remember the exact version they played on the radio. Maybe they played a shortened version. You know radio people didn't like playing songs that were almost 5 minutes long! Ron
What a beautiful video you put together, Ron!! I never knew the backstory on the song. The year it came out, I was very busy as I was getting ready to get married in 1976. I've always been a big fan of Michael Martin Murphy. This song is very, very touching. Particularly for those of us who do believe in the afterlife!! Thank you for sending it to me. And now I need to see if "A Long Line of of Love" is somewhere here on YT!! Cheri/CCF
@MrBuckwilliam-As I understand it Buck, this song tells the story of a girl with a pony she named Wildfire. During the winter the pony broke out of the stall- the girl chased after the pony. In the snowstorm she and the pony died. The singer senses the girl and pony are coming for him now. It can be taken that he also is joining her and Wildfire in the afterlife! The song can be interpreted differently by different people. The lyrics can be a metaphor for different life happenings to people.

@rwells47 AOR stations were designed to play LP versions of songs. AOR stations did play this song back in '76. At least KSHE 95 in St. Louis did.
