Seiko invented some more things, in fact, the first automatic chronograph to buy WAS a Seiko 6138. Heuer and Breitling constructed the first, but only as a prototype. And what about the 7T59, the first analogue quartz watch with 1/100 sec chronograph. And BTW, assa123assa123 is very ignorant.
Hattori started the Sekosha clock manufacture in 1892 not the 70's. They were however banned from competition in the early 70's because they kept winning. That's one of the reasons the COSC was founded and limited to only Swiss manufacture.
Obviously Google is too expensive for some people. :)
@AVintageWatch they did´nt keep winning they won once that was enough for the swiss to ban them from all future competitions, and they say swiss watches are classy!!!
Seiko is very good make my dad has 2 Swiss watches one rolex oyster and one omega seamaster and he had a seiko both Swiss watches broke after a decade or 2 witch is good but seiko just as old still works so you know they are all quite good if you look after them

and you're a naughty self-fucker who thinks he does. Go on and say jap watches are renowned as high as swiss... or go and say they have a long long history, fool. they got into the market as cheap crap in 70s and some were ambitious to try to climb up - so what?
You should know Grand Seiko's are amazing if you accually know your stuff, and yes, they arent world know because they have been only in japan for the most part- only recently have they accually gone to a few other asian countries around like Singapore. They arent as well known as swiss, but if you ignore the "name" of both, Seiko's are better. i Own a grand Seiko and a swiss watch and i love my Grand Seiko alot better. It doesnt matter how well known or how long- its the watch itself.

and I prefer swiss. So what? seiko has two 'interesting' to some watches: sonnerie and spring drive. all the rest is crap. and I'm not into both previously mentioned. did they pioneer anything else? do they make non-trivial-looking watches? no. credor is just a jap attempt to go high-end by some 'fine craftsmanship'. aha, samurai, harakiri, fuck yourself.
@assa123assa123 OK what did Seiko pioneer? First bi-directional auto winder, first chronometer with vertical clutch, first mass produced quartz, first solar powered watch, first body heat powered watch, first talking watch(before you ask its for blind people), first quartz with built in generator, first spring drive and first E-ink watch. Thats just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head, so before you diss Seiko maybe you should check them before you make a idiot of yourself, Dickassa
The 36,000bph calibres from Seiko are 0702, 4522, 5740, 6146, 6159, 45GS, and 4S15. One currently produced calibre, the ND58, has a tiny balance which beats at 43,200bph! Not to mention, all of these movements were assembled by hand.

Swiss watches are criminally overpriced, with lousy customer service.
