  • @garry2301 = Westboro Cult Attention Whore Wannabe.

  • Can you please do a review video on the LX 5 please?

  • @mochamocha8 I won't be doing a video review of the LX5, but I did do a very detailed written review at cameralabs . com

  • @cameralabs Thanks, I will check it out. :) Would you recommend the LX5 or the GF3? Thanks.

  • @mochamocha8 Depends what your priorities are. I'd go for the GF3 for the better quality, but it is bigger, especially with a zoom lens.

  • Hello Gordon!

  • 8:26

  • MegaMind Ahhh

    LOVE? (官方動畫版)

  • This is actually the cam I got right now. It's great. I find it simple to use, and I'm not great at navigating threw a cam menu. But this isn't too annoying. I really like panasonics products.

  • '

is this camera can use clear double focus

  • مثل الكام بتاعي

  • Great review. Think I going to dump my Pentax K20D and go for this or LX5. The K20D's noise reduction and AF is getting on my tits, very poor, results would put you off photography. I like thge fratures available on the Panny for such a small camera. Time to do some more research.

  • I had a panasonic DMC-FZ38 for 2 days, boy all plastic, pics terrible, video codecs AVCHD Lite which is a pain to work with in any editing sotware, Raw in adobe Photoshop CS4 plugin problems, Zoom noise, Image noise, Little twinky sounds like a baby toy, How can this junk ever sell?. I am glas I got shot of it for the same price. Only bought it as a chuck about camera, Glad I have my Canon D5 and Pentax K20D, think I have been spoilt with these two!!

  • you look funny, Mr. Clean.

  • how is this camera compared to Canon's S90?

  • Thank you! Very useful video. I'm now confused between S90, G11 and LX3. Could you please give some advice?

  • Superb demo.. thanks a lot :-)

  • get the zs7 instaed this camera is to expensive and it has a little or not that many good features, i mean u cant zoom while recording and it only has 2.5x optical zoom . or just ge the fz38k i have the fz28k and that camera is the best camera that i ever had, this lx3 sucks ass, sorry!!!

  • why are these cameras so expensive i have the dmc fz28k ,and i love it better than this lx3!!

  • queens town!!!, new zealand is the best country in the world

  • Can't wait for the LX4!

  • @Olphus LX5 comes out this month :) same concept, but improved, better lens, processor, etc.

  • i like your eye make-up!

  • Ur so Sweet!

    WOW.... Thank You! Thank You!

All that stuff summed up in 9 mins. And Ur so Clear!

I want U to be My Math Teacher OK!

  • @VALMARIESASK Thanks! Sadly my maths isn't so good any more!

  • how many zoom is this? is it more than 30x optical zoom?

  • After hesitating between LX3 and Powershot G11, i finnaly bought the Lumix LX3!

  • sounds like... my next camera.

  • Very nice review.

  • hey im an art student and a first time camera buyer.... ive been looking around and im not sure whether to go for the E-PL1 from Olympus or this( due to the price compared to the pen)

  • How does the camera performs in concert photography?

  • is the leica d lux identical to this ?

  • This or S90? :)

  • @mijisa24 Check out the verdict page of my S90 review at cameralabs . com!

  • Great video review Gordon. Helped me to decide to order this camera yesterday.

  • Nice review. What is the range of aperture ? Thx

  • google

  • this camera is cool

  • wow

  • beautiful.

  • This and the Leica D-Lux 4 are the best pocket cameras in the market.

  • There's no coincidence there, because they're both the same camera re-branded with a slightly different firmware.

  • I know, and very different prices.

  • Are there any cameras with a 2.0 lens that can zoom in movie mode?

  • I was wondering if you can take black and White images with this camera and if so, how

  • Switch to the "P" setting and you can change the "film" type there. There are three different types of B&W. I use it all the time. Great camera.

  • by setting the film mode to b&w i would guess.

  • @roryt0710 photoshop it. set saturation to 0. easy, you can do it in windows picture browser.

  • Comment removed

  • can any owners please tell me if the lens on this camera retracts if the camera is idle for some minutes while still on?, because i really cant stand that.

it will be a huge deciding factor.

  • The lens doesnt retract. The camera turns itself off after 5 minutes, but you can turn this powersaving feature off in the menu. If you have the new firmware (2.1, you can download it), you can set in the menu that zoom setting will be restored after turning the camera on.

  • What's the maximum minutes of video can you record on this camera

  • Max. video length is 10m30s for 1280x720x24 and 15m for all other formats. Picture is quite fine, sound and compression is pretty lame. The 10m HD take almost 2Gbytes.

  • just bought the g10 and i am hugely impressed!

  • things to upgrade in the lx 4:

    - Wider lens (since a lot of Panasonic's automatic models feature equal wide-angle measurements, which takes away one of the features of the LX3)

    - Same or brighter aperture

    - Longer focal length

    - Deeper grip

    - Automated lens cover

    Great camera otherwise

  • Thanks Gordon

  • Wow i've just come out of jessops - so good to hear a wise man speak!

  • lol

  • this was really helpful. thanks

  • Great camera, except for weak on-camera flash - a universal problem for Panasonic cameras. I can only find the special compact flash in the Leica model.

  • Excellent review, Gordon - great work !

  • what is better the LX3 or the Canon G10

  • lx3

  • LX3. no compromises

  • lx3

  • Great camera, I have just bought it. Pity I can't say the same for the Silkypix software.

  • I was thinking of going with the G9, but I didn't like the fact that Canon still didn't get their ISO noise problems worked out. Despite the lack of a manual viewfinder, the wealth of features in this camera and lens quality is more than enough to make it a winner.

  • No manual viewfinder, eh? Very odd to see on a camera of this high price range. Nevertheless, it is nice to see Panasonic actually playing this smart and increasing the image quality of their sensor; opposed to the countless point-and-shoot cameras out there who go for higher megapixels, but consequently, lower-quality shots due to a poor image sensor.

  • Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the Ricoh LC-1 self-retaining lens cap works with this model, as seen @ Danny Choo's blog.

Great review; thanks a lot! I think I will be getting this to replace my ageing CyberShot DSC-T30. The f2.0 will definitely come in handy. Would have been nice if you mentioned a bit about its macro capabilities though; but I guess it's about the usual for a compact.

    Cheers, Mike.

  • Im getting fz28 i need zoom but i need features aswell

  • Hi Gordon,

Would this lens be able to take a uv filter?

  • You can get an extender to fi ton the lens which has threads for filters.

  • Hry Gordon ! will the LX4 have 15MP? or more you have any inside info? or what is your thoughts ?

  • I have no idea - and if I did know, i would be under contract to say nothing. Sorry!

  • would you think this would be better or the G10??

  • Check out the verdict page of my G10 review at cameralabs . com.

  • Your accent is great

  • Excellent, thorough review. Thank You!

  • is it possible to take shots with the backscreen lcd off?

  • whats the standard for camera? 4;3?

  • 35mm cameras have an aspect ratio of 3:2, but bigger formats use ratios of 1:1 or 6:7 or 4:5.

  • wow, this review is even more impressive than the camera itself!!! i'm sold on the camera. i'm gonna go get it in an hour.

  • Thanks! Don't forget you can support us by shopping through the ads on the cameralabs . com review pages...

  • @dearGirlieLetter get the zs7 instaed this camera is to expensive and it has a little or not that many good features, i mean u cant zoom while recording and it only has 2.5x optical zoom . or just ge the fz38k i have the fz28k and that camera is the best camera that i ever had, this lx3 sucks ass, sorry!!!

  • Great video!

  • Excellent vid. Thanks.

  • does this camera rotate pics when you tilt the camera from horizontal to vertical?

  • YES

  • A view finder & manual focus ring on lens and I would be buying !!!! please all companys.... A simple request!

  • Amen. Wouldn't even be looking at these things if the 5D fit in the pocket :P

  • Wheres the focusing wheel when your in manual focus mode?

  • There is no wheel for manual focus, but it has button to adjust focus. relatively it's not so convinient than wheel.

  • Great review. I hesitated between the G10 and the LX3 and chose the former... It's amazing.

May I suggeest you get a bit further away from your camcorder. It would be nicer and more professional.

  • check up dpreview for the best serious compact winner.

  • Fantastic video Gordon!

I just bought one, and this video actually helped me learn quite a bit about my newest gadget. Thanks!

  • Glad to help! Be great to hear what you think of it - and why you chose to buy it - in the Panasonic section of the cameralabs forums!

  • Very useful. Thanks

I'm in two minds about cameras without viewfinders.

  • Thank you Gorden for this good vid.

Can you tell me what is the best between Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 and Canon IXUS 950IS ???

I am enthusiast photographer (I hope to be pro) but I am looking for cheap and semi-pro camera (with good video recording) before I buy my first professional DSLR

    Please recommend cameras for me

  • I think Canon Powershot G10 or Canon Ixus 980IS is better

  • LX3 is definitely NOT cheap.

but great camera in all aspects.

  • Hi! I am just wondering what u think about the Leica Dlux 4...

it seems both cameras are identical, and people do say those are exact twins each other.

Do you know if there are any differences?

  • I haven't tested the Leica versions, so can't say, but I think they tweak the JPEG processing.

  • will you be testing Leica versions some time later?

  • Nope, 'fraid not, sorry!

  • y not?

  • i think that he won't say which camera is better,he will give you a review of the cameras and let you pick the one you like more.

like for me,i think that there are no best camera in the world,it is only the camera you like more.

  • finally - a camera reviewer who actually knows what he is talking about!

  • Gordan your review are by far the best. I saw your review for the g10 and was impressed. Initially that is the camera I was after Bu after seeing the LX3, I've been feeling a bit torn - Which would you recommend personally ? g10 or LX3?

  • There's pros and cons to both. Check out the verdict page of my G10 review at cameralabs . com...

  • this guy gives the best reviews ever!

  • Particularly good is the demo of the manual focus option with the joystick and focus buttons. Some coverage of the special scene modes like taking all 3 aspect ratios at once, high sensitivity and burst modes.

  • Nice Review

  • Best review video, I've come across, thanks!

  • Thank for this review. I find it (and all your reviews) very helpful. Keep up the good work.

  • hi Gordon. tanx for the review. I really think about to buy the lx3. but do u know, if panasonic (or somebody else) will produce an underwater housing? I know, that there is a producer in tokio, who makes those 1200.-dollar professionalhousing...to expensive!!or maybe I should buy the TZ5. I know there are housings for. Tanks!

  • Hi, I don't know, sorry, but feel free to ask in the Panasonic section of the cameralabs forums! Or have a look at some dedicated diving websites as this isn't an area I'm an expert on - sorry!

  • Great review, love the Lx3 never thought Panasonic could come up with cam on par fotoquality with G10!

Also plz do the new Panasonic G1 review!

  • I like it very much but is there a time limit when your taking hd videos with this camera or is the time limited by the size of the sd/sdhc?

  • Gordon, may I know whether this camera has the ability to make the focused area coloured while the rest of the image is in B&W as found in Canon cameras?

  • I don't think so, sorry!

  • You can do that in photoshop!

  • Comparing between this and Canon G10, I like Pana LX3 better.

Only major advantage G10 has over LX3 seems to be the zoom range to the longer side, but everything else, the favor seems to go the other way.

  • Gordon, please tell me which I should get Lx3 or G10?? Im a novice in photography but wanting the learn the basics..I'm not sure if I'm ready to step to a slr..and main point I dont like weight. Lx3 and g10 has it's pro and cons..but after reading many reviews including yours..seems Canon just like to increase megapixels rather then using it's sensors full potential. I want a camera with best image quality for landscape, street photography and some portraits...with manual functions.

  • Hi, check out the verdict page of my G10 review at cameralabs . com - it compares them both. Then feel free to discuss this further on the cameralabs forums...

  • Let's be honest; silver looks better.

  • Hey Gordon, do you know if the dimensions of the LX3 are the same as the LX2? I'm wondering if the new leather case (the one that lets the camera hangs around your neck like a rangefinder) will fit the LX2

  • I'm not sure - you'd need to check the dimensions in both reviews (design pages at cameralabs . com) or at Pansasonic's website. Remember some holes may not line up though!

  • I love my LX2. the functionality and size. What i don't like about LUMIX is that they are not so much into Firmware updates. Unfortunately I have to wait for a new model to come out just to see an update. I would have enjoyed my LX2 much more if Lumix considered updating firmwares every now and then. So I don't know how much commitment will Panasonic/Lumix put into this specific product. I only wish that DP1 would have copied LX2/LX3's Menu system. LOL

  • Gordon -

Thanks for this, and all of your other great reviews.

This must be a pretty crazy time for you, with the release of several new models, and the start of Photokina. Do you intend to make a video review of the Nikon D90 at some point? That would be fantastic!

  • Yes, I'll be reviewing all the new DSLRs just as soon as the manufacturers get sample models over to me.

  • please tell me. does RAW give better image quality than Jpeg?????

  • It has the potential to, but you have to process it in software on your computer - sometimes the default settings in the software don't look great though - see the results pages for this review at cameralabs . com.

  • been a while hasn't it?

Gordon what do you think of the canon eos 40d. I am switching from a semi slr. I know dslr's very well but i wan't a semi pro camera. What do you prefer the nikon d300 or canon 40d?

  • The 40D certainly represents great value at the moment - check the verdict page of our D300 review at cameralabs . com to comare them both, and you may also want to read our EOS 50D preview again at cameralabs.

  • Thanks for the review, looks like a great camera!

  • Very nice camera, thanks

  • whoa feels weird to be looking up to those mountains instead of down :)
