  • She plays well and her facial expressions are really the best. I like that she is so in to the playing of the piece. Very nice.

  • I heard her play when she was only 14 or 15 and I knew from that point she would become such a great pianist.

  • from the beginning to 1:55 and then that note right at 1:56. Wonderful. I love her PLAYING.

  • To be able to hear her play, a blessing.

To be able to see her facial expressions.......... i have no idea......

  • sounds just like Ilana Vered

  • Grigor99 is exactly right - which goes to show you how small the differences are between very good playing and great playing. It's these tiny details that enable the music to communicate it's story to an audience. With them the music is compelling and absorbing, without them it's just a lot of pretty sounds robbed of their meaning - like a second rate actor playing Lear.

  • Almost no pianist that I have heard save Kapell and Lipatti manage to truly carry the full opening melody. Most play the decsending arp to the f# and then bring the next chord in at a dynamic that is too far outside the "envelope" of sound from just that one lonely f#. This interrupts the line and the hear can not really hear the f# resolving and then move upwards again. It's very hard to describe . Colleen is a very fine Chopin player but everyone really missed the boat right in the beginning.

  • the female LANG LANG :P:P:P but she plays good though :P:P

  • her final movt was totally something, amazingly powerful

i like the clarity of her play, (cant say she doesnt have funny face, but think its coming from so much concentration and indulgence!! haha)

  • Gorgeous, I really enjoyed this.

  • 2:00 ftw. i cant believe this was related to piano sonata no. 14 by ludwig. i see absolutely no resemblance.

  • She plays very straightforwardly and solidly. But I have to say that there isn't really anything particularly outstanding about her (except for her face) in comparison with others at her caliber of playing.

  • babyeinstein12: Here, it is a matter of taste. Different pianists appeal to different people for different reasons. You cannot dogmatize matters of taste but you can respect their right to differ from you within reasonable boundaries.

What I like about her playing is that it speaks directly to my heart and without the use of pyrotechnics. Colleen is a great and subtle communicator!! Don't worry about the face as the more recent videos show, Colleen is in full control.

  • I like the fact that nothing particularly sticks out, its a good ground to just hear the music with, as opposed to feeling like you're dancing around someone's quirks.

  • if there one thing i could criticise, it is that the soothing passages were not soothing enough, which is something the judges would consider vital to the chopinesque feel. at some times, like 5:50-7:39, I feel should have been played to a different, more subtle mood, such that a stronger effort made to differentiate tone and color would produce. otherwise, flawless performance

  • How are you able to detect these things? I'm in shock :O if you play the piano how long have you played? If you're a judge how long have you judged?

  • beautiful!i love this chopin version.

  • Colleen makes a beautiful, bright and sensuous sound without evidence of force. It enhances her playing which is so full of pathos that it penetrates the depths of the heart. It is indeed a glorious performance. She has the ability not just to play artistically but to attain great spiritual heights. I love Colleen and her playing.

Keep up the wonderful work Colleen and remain inspired.

  • Great performance!

    Funny face!

  • I think so !! She actually has funny face

  • she should have one more than 6th, 3rd or 4th... She is great. In my opinion.

  • I totaly agree with you.I think she deserved something better then the 6th....

  • nobody was awarded fith... that would have been better... But yes I like her interpretations a lot!

  • Come on, she should be an actress!

  • Is that an imprint of bartok's head above her?

  • Nothing wrong with Colleen's facial expression! Most musicians are like that. when they perform... helps them be more involved in their music...

Great performance I think... tho I am a fan of Chen Sa

  • your right, they're involuntary. I sort of think of it like when the emotion boiling up inside them boils over a little and appears on the face

  • She plays this very nicely but I prefer Rafal Blechacz.

  • Too ridiculous is face.

Before this I beleved noone could have en expression more ridiculous.

I wanna made the same !! I'm sure there will be a lot of lAUGHS: A GOOD EXAMPLE OF HOW RUINING A GOOD INTERPRETATION!

  • HONG KONG is mighty proud of Miss Lee.

  • I usually hate this movement of thsi sonata, but her interpretation has made me change my mind. And in terms of facial expression, the Rubenstein once said 'I am making love when playing music'.. Maybe shes taking this a bit too seriously?

  • she looks and acts like lang lang in a dress *lol*

    nevertheless good playing

  • best performance of this sonata i heard on youTube.

and her facial expressions are charming as well!!

  • this so perfect

  • very good... brava

  • lol.. scary

  • 喜欢肖邦!

  • very solid interpretion....however..gesture will affect the movement and the running of this particular sonata...

  • funny....music was showing on her face.

  • playing very well, but i don't like her facial expression.

  • me tooooooooooooooo!

    我也一样 她的样子好"可怕"

  • These orientals and their facial expressions! They never cease to make me wonder what the heck they're thinking...

  • she comes from Hong kong....she is the first hk people who reaches the finals

  • she is the sixth of the competetion

  • a new face, do they the whole competition on dvd?

  • Good conception. Wonderful pedal! Beautiful but small sound (fortes) and sometimes superficial pianissimos.

  • true but don't forget when you become that picky, it isnt' fair to judge based on youtube quality video and sound.
