@CosmosHeart *SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILER* It was meant to end as a cliffhanger. But inferring from the scene at the beginning where she was all alone in a world, I would assume she died.

Hello everyone! My name is Kevin Penkin and I am a 17 year old composer. I have just finished re writing the entire soundtrack for Voices of a Star as an experiment and a demonstration of my skills as a composer. I would truly appreciate it if all of you were to see (and hear it).
I hope you get to see it and I hope to I get to officially write music for something this magical.
It's published by Tokyopop called Voices of the Distant star. I own it and it is very good, but different then the anime. Still good if you need more Hoshi no Koe. ; 3;
Hey Onizuka90 do you have the sheet music to this song? It says that you have the music but i'm not sure if that's MP3 download or what. Would you please email me
I bought this film last weekend! It made me cry. I prefer it in Japanese but I cannot find this song on limewire or... anyway!! can you help me tell where it is? thank you ^_^ Peace Out
I bought this film last weekend! It made me cry. I prefer it in Japanese but I cannot find this song on limewire or... anyway!! can you help me tell where it is? thank you ^_^ Peace Out
Hahaha, yeah, I overreacted. I'm okay now when I watch it. XP Sometimes when I watch it when I'm already sad, I start to cry, but mostly I'm good now. And yes, it's largely thanks to the music.
But yeah, that's what happened to me when I saw it. I wasn't expecting something so powerful and beautiful in only 22 minutes or so. It was that last "koko ni iru" that really set me off...
well hey its all good... exact same thing for me. I shed some tears first time i saw it and too it was at the end with that theme song. I wasnt exactly bawling or curled up on the floor tho lol.
I must say tho... the english version of this song... ick! >:O Jap version is MUCH better. I just bought the Shinkai Collection bundle today on Ebay! cant wait to get the soundtrack cd. first time i got the dvd from the library i had the menus up on my tv for literally hours! :)
this is one of the few shows that i cried during, after, and while rewatching. At 20 minutes, it packs more of an emotional punch than many other series that span hours.
Mankiw2000, the song is sung by someone that Shinkai-san refers to as Ms. Low. That is the only information given in the "Voices Of A Distant Star" DVD. I would guess that she is a friend of his whom he asked to sing the song because he created "Voices" on his own computer and didn't have access to professional singers. However, I doubt anyone else could have sung it so beautifully.
I was wondering about the idea with the time. Even though there was a great distance in time, shouldn't she be able to return back in the same time, thus only having lost "real" time in terms of days or something like that? I mean, shouldn't she already arrived back until the last message got to him?
I really love this song I found the lyrics inside my favorites and I was like what is this then I looked it up on Youtube and I listen to it and it brings back a warm feeling! thank you for sharing I would love to down load this someone but I can't find it where did you get this song!!
It must truly be painful, having to love someone the way that they did. Not even on the same planet, each text message taking longer and longer to reach eachother...
I made the unfortunate assumption that, though she managed to destroy one of the enemy flagships, She - along with the rest of the Human fleet was destroyed.
If you wait a few seconds after they show the paper "Space Technology Journal" the top headline reads "Transmition from 2047, victorious in battle at syrius 8 years ago" and Bottom headline reads "Massive losses reported, Spaceship Rissitea the only one with the chance to return home" its around 20when Norburu enters his room and messes with the lights.
Do also consider reading the manga for further info on what happens about the battle. Very nice ending I might say to such a wonderful short anime film.
It was a metaphorical, symbolic, "leading off" ending. The whole point is for the audience to come up with their own conclusion to what happens...but it's all very bittersweet;_;
@Sunkist02 It´s about their thought, what both of them would have: if their thoughts could travell through time and space -> the answer of both is "I'm here"
and wtf, I was nerally crying. It was like I can feel their pain!
I much prefer the Makoto Shinkai's original ending then, though I understand he wrote the manga adaptation as well. That was for a slightly different audience, I would say. The emotions and the message of the story don't require that it have any different an ending than the OVA did. That said, Shinkai is my favorite person working in animation right now, and every film he's made is beautiful and touching. Here's looking forward to his next film, finally.
@ccv707 What original ending? You mean the one where they meet back up, and the fansubbers didn't translate the headline on the newspaper that explains that she survived?
@ThomyThompson in the manga, Mikako didn't die, but her fleet was lost. Earth sent another exploring team to search for them, and Noburo was in that team. That's where the manga ends.
@Sunkist02 she dies trying to protect her ship, the Lysithea. And ofcourse, when he says he'll stick by his promise we can only assume he'll die alone.
been awhile since i saw a romance, and if a had a heart i'd cry, ahah
Though this OVA is an open ending, so it ultimately depends on how the viewer interprets it-
So in the film, does Mikako die or not? I never quite understood that part.
