As for mma take downs - this can happen, but if you notice, the stance is low, and you have to get past the well trained elbows and knees for the shoot. no matter how 'whole' you think mma is, it's still a sport, muay chaiya comes from real combat... eye gouges, striking throat, kicking in the nuts etc... all included.

The instep will be broken using it that way. And in MMA they jsut gave you a take down for ground and pound.

Take a look at Cycril Abidi to see some bizarre kicks that work against high level people.

lol, the whole point of kicking like that is to prevent injury to the top of the foot and instep. kick with your foot pointed, and you can role the foot. by raising the foot it tenses the tendons, muscles and strengthens your legs.

Don't knock something until u try it, these guys kick hard for fun, and Tae especially has it down to a fine art!

Next time check out Baan Chang Thai on Sukhumvit Ekkemai (check my website for map/directions). It's a friendly place, no bs. If you're budget conscious, sign up for the friday/saturday classes only 200 baht a time.

Remember these guys don't have large gyms with lots of teachers, and the level of detail taught is higher than what you get in your average muay thai gym. 1on1 lessons with a master? Of course it's going to be expensive!

the one that they filmed in the human weapon series, such a b.s series buy the way they b.s half the things in it, they try to dramatize every thing for a good story and make lots of sells

In Baan Chang thai it's not expensive for the courses friday and saturday then you can come monday to thursday for free to train with the instructor not kru lek, even the private lessons a bit more expensive but compare with the prices of Private lessons in Europe around 35€ minimum per hours until 100€ maybe more here around 9€ per hour it still be quite cheap. Kru Preang School is very expensive place and I met some people try both and prefer come to Kru Lek's school. Teaching is better.
