  • i one day plan to do this here in northern ontario, these people are heros and a inspiration to me, sadly many people in this world dont see eye to eye.

  • Did you pass Ontario Building Code Inspections as well?? I'm dying to start one of these gems.

  • wonderful. I want one. husband and me are thinking about relocating to the mountains in arkansas. this seems great for out there. thanks

  • what do they do when they get an abscessed tooth?

  • @Aprilshowersss The dentist ;)

  • @donsjuand if they do not have any income? how do they pay for the dentist?

  • @Aprilshowersss Did you know that natural sugars do not cause cavities or infections/absess? You can thank the economy for white sugar and therefore cavities ;)

  • @donsjuand This is no true. White sugar is definitely bad, mainly because all nutrients are zapped out of it and its just purely empty carbohydrates. Natural sugars have beneficial minerals and such in them, yet they still cause cavities, just like any other sugar does.

  • @Aprilshowersss I suspect the truth to be somewhere in between - a quick research on a dental source told me it is demineralisation from the teeth due to lack of vitamins/minerals (crap nutrition) that contributes, as well as high acid diets which potentially weaken enamel. Anyhow, thanks for pointing out my momentary brain fart ;)

  • Thank you! I have to post this!

  • When she says this is freedom...she means the guys dick because she's pointing down and he's smiling

  • I wanted an Earthship but saw how hard it was to pound all those tires so I automated the process of filling and compacting dirt in tires. I built prototypes and patented the machines, and started a company called Tirewall Corp. Check out my videos of the machines in action. More videos to be added soon. I need help getting my company going and I am looking to build a house for free near Peterborough, ON in the summer of 2011. I hope to contact the Potters soon.

  • @TirewallCorp Very brilliant of you! If you want to connect with us on an upcoming project we are going to build up in Minden, ON very soon. Private message me and we will keep in touch. There are great people getting together to help one another build our homes. Community!

  • You should do a summer episode where you show how you beat the black flies and mosquitoes off of each other like crazy

  • Wonderful, I will be in contact soon as this is everything that I would want in a home. Blessings , Deb, Belleville, Ont.

  • Hi I live in Trenton Oct. 31st2010- Bravo for everything you re-presented here ! I and my friend really WANT your input to do this a.s.a.p. please reply to : agendafocus@yahoo.ca

  • Oh... how cute they are! :) Love it!

  • Amazing!

  • Wow! $43,000??? Here in the USA, I've seen some ads for 2 bedroom Global Model

Earthship near $180,000. My gut tells me that these homes should be now where

near $100,000 including all necessary systems and a plot of land. This couple can

truly say that they are "free" from the "rat race". Pat and Chuck,Cheers!

  • I'm actually working for Pat and Chuck and I'd like everyone to know that we are now designing, and building Earth Homes! We are working on a website but currently are still mostly phone based. If you're interested in taking a tour, buying blueprints, or just talking give Pat Potter a call at 613-474-0435, if you don't get through just leave a message with your information and Pat will get back to you asap. Thanks, Justin -Head Designer at Earth Home Galleries

  • This is my dream.

  • Thanks so much for posting this - this is very inspiring - Ive been trying to connect to alternative housing people and communities, and its pretty hard. We tried living offgrid in Tofino, but it failed because of land inaffordability. Ive started both a ning community and a facebook group (search for live offgrid in groups - theres is an earthship photo) for people to interact on this topic come and join us please, we are seriousely wanting to live freely and will succeed.

  • Hi,

I am interested in building an earthship myself in Ontario, preferably located in the Niagara region.

I was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is to get a building permit in Ontario? I know in the States that getting a permit can be the most difficult part.

    Thanks.

  • @yhycTV HI! I'm actually the Head Designer at Earth Home Gallery (Pat and Chuck's company) and we have successfully received 3 building permits so far. The problem with getting a permit is educating municipal officials about how the house works. We personally work with building officials to ensure you get building permits. If you're still interested just give us a call at 613-474-0435. But to answer your question directly, if you have a civil engineer stamp your blueprints, you can get a permit.

  • Go to Earthship Interested; Canadian EarthshipCommunities

are comming! On Facebook, ot's a group. Please joinand help us start Earthship communities in Canada. Connect to earthsip Biotechture, the main site for Micheal Reynolds! They also have a place to post for Canadians.

I want to build one also, but do not want to be isolated.

  • Most people are in the at race because they need to pay for the "right" to live. My main expense is the rent and if I owned a house I'd have to pay even more (morgage, tax, hydro...........................). And to pay for all that, to feed this monstrosity we call economy, I would have to do some mindless job and have no energy left to do anything meaningful.

This house is the simplest solution to all of the above.

Too bad you can't build it in Toronto for just 43k.

  • @mauveformation Maybe, but probably not; depends on who does the work :) Lots of old tires in Toronto ;)

  • Inspiring. I am too working towards my own green home and I love the earthships. How do you get rainwater in the winter, do you have to melt it, if so how?

  • @Enviroman101 great question!

  • This is incredible! and also an efficient way of living. It's quite amazing. I believe it's more than just environmental but a thrifty way to live. To grow one's own food. No utilities. Water from the sky and close to nature. Thanx so much for sharing this with the world. I'm gonna build my own earthship right here in the Canadian Prairies.

  • $43k wow

  • Great video, guys! We are planning the same in Tasmania & are doing up 2 houses to sell to enable us to buy land! Thanks for the great inspiration & encouragemnt. xoxo

  • This is so inspiring! Thank you. I need some land, but when I get it I am going to build myself a nice earthship... I also need to find a girl who will marry me and live with me in my earthship forever...

  • lol your funny

  • 3:18 Pat says, "The more sustainable we became as we built it, the more freedom we found we had." That is the crux of the matter for my family. We want the freedom!

  • oh ! I'm only 21, and I wish I could live like that ! I come from Northen Québec and it's good to see that it's still warm during winter.

Thank you for posting this !!

  • @narfee I'm from Montreal, and I would LOVE to live in a community of Earthships! What a great way of life! :D
