This is definitely a tornado. You can see it picking up tiles from roofing and debris flying around. Not so sure about some of the sound in the video though. Sounds like the music from the Wizard of Oz. Lol I could be wrong. But if it is, that's cute! xD
My brother-in-law lived at Moorooka when this twister went through less than a kilometre from his house. He says he saw the clouds in the sky revolving around the funnel cloud in the middle. He also took some Super 8 movie footage, but of the resultant damage.
"On the afternoon of 4 November 1973, intense thunderstorms built up west of Brisbane. One particularly active storm generated several funnel clouds, at least one of which touched down as a strong tornado west of the city. This tornado ... damaged nearly 1400 buildings: at one house, only the water pipes remained after the passage. This tornado had a path length of 51km, with peak wind-speeds estimated at over 250km/h."
Yep, mini tornado. Good to see another ignorant moron mis-labelling an obvious weather phenomenon. Just like all the other wankers calling the microburst that happened at the gap a "Cyclone" You obviously have the net, why dont you use it educate yourself a bit more.
DID"NT ANYONE UNDERSTAND MY SARCASM???? I know its not a mini fucking tornado. Thats the whole point of what i was saying. A tornado is a tornado period. Looks like you just got Misunderstood, Bro
So pleased to see some one with a grasp on the facts... The media use terms "Mini- Tornado/Cyclone" to ramp up the violence factor .. While it is a bit hard to comment on this video.. But from the weather conditions.. looks more like a Willy Willy.. still not in the league of a tornado.. but have seen them destroy farm sheds..BTW Who added the lame wind noise.. that is a silent 8mm film..
We lost our home from one of these in Mackay Qld back in 1990 never ever saw the garden shed ever again and never rebuilt in that area again, we now live in Emerald Qld and luckly had purchased a house on high ground. Greetings from Emerald 26.01.08
I was 9 years old during this storm at Macgregor as we were having a party. Houses up the road exploded and the caravan across the road disappeared. Remember seeing the storm form and how dark the clouds were. Have read on the Bureau of Meteorology site that winds got to around 230k. I'd believe it as trees just missed our house and the garage door was almost ripped from the house. Lucky we only sustained superficial damage and a bit of a scare.
You are right. I was 8 years old and remember it well. I lived in Upper Mt Gravatt at the time, and I remember it going through Macgregor, just around the corner from me and walking through the streets the next day and seeing the damage.
I'm not sure that even qualifies as a tornado -- it looks like a big "whirlwind" or "dust devil". If it's a tornado it's sure a puny one. I've been thru a couple that make this look laughable. Not to say that this wouldn't be dangerous, with all the flying debris.

It wasn't a "mini-tornado" - from the BOM -

There is no such thing as a ''mini-tornado.'' A tornado is a tornado.

that tornado is believe a F2 at this stage but it can be quite scary at times
mickfs2004 4 years ago
Wow scary, so thats what one sounds like. Yikes that would be so scary.
Maryanne247 4 years ago
Key words: "8mm home movie camera" -- those things had no sound. Sound had to have been dubbed in later.
