Looks like my comments got cut off. I was saying the left side gets a lot hotter than the right due to the location of of the air damper. I cracked the bricks on the left side at about 650 degrees. I call Ds stove co and they are sending me out new bricks and said that should not of happened. Thanks
Ok I ran this stove now for about 4 days. I changed my mind this stove is awesome. I wanted to see how long the coal in hopper would last so i filled it and kept the temp between 250 and 350 and shooked the grates after 12hrs. It took 36 hrs for the coal to reach the bottom of the hopper wow!! I will probably shake every 12 hrs and add a little to hopper each time. I guess the one thing I don't care for is the air damper in the back is on the left side which makes the left side of t
the pipe in video telescopes so no cutting required all stoves require 3ft around except when you have masonary or you install 1inch air gap over existing wall,as far as stack temp very close to single wall with telescoping.if any stove is not installed correct it wont work well to many people do poor installs or cheap out then blame stove manufacturer.check out neapa cross roads for d.s. machine reputation and quality
I just bought this stove today. it's ok not the best. A lot of heat does go up chimney it looks like you're using double wall pipe and getting a false temp reading. Most of the heat on this stove comes off the back wall not front or side. If anyone buys this stove make make sure you have plenty of room behind it. Kind of a poor design. The temp dial works good. All the air comes in the back corner straight up and out the chimney. not good.
@124worth Is this your first attempt at burning coal? If so, give the stove a chance. There is definitely a learning curve to burning coal, but once you get it figured out, it's great!
I would highly recommend checking out nepacrossroads (dot) com and reading up on the DS machine stoves.
