General Colin Powell was absolutely right. Despite his role in Bush's reign, he's always still had my respect and his willingness to call the Republicans out on their vicious divisiveness, racism, and xenophobia only not proves that I was right about him, but right about supporting Obama. Powell is a good man and my respect for him, despite our differing ideologies, only grows.
I worry that the common sense Eisenhower Republicans are dying off like dinosaurs and I'm sorry to say that even being a Democrat myself. I believe that instead of sitting back and wisely assessing the parties strengths and weaknesses a lot of Republicans will have a knee jerk reaction to Colin Powell. I find it extremely hard to believe that a man who's book I read and who was an Infantry Officer in Vietnam took this long to make his decision on the candidates. Powell makes a good point about Muslim-Americans which I had been thinking about every time people were defending Obama against being Muslim. Neither the maternal nor paternal citizenship has ANY relevance in this matter. Neither Obama's, Obama's mother nor Obama's father's citizenship has any bearing WHATSOEVER on the matter at hand - his eligibility to run for the office of President. The constitional requirement concerning Presidential eligibility is very clear. There is no room for question. There is no debate. There are no grounds for reinterpretation. Face facts: he cannot be President under any circumstances.

I served with General Powell,he is not a Republican,both parties tried to get him to run.He made it very clear, he didn't want to expose his family. The republicans saved his career when he was stationed at Ft. Carson. I've been checking the presidential campaign and I really think Obama is the best choice by far. There's something that concerns my mind, after all these experiencies around the world with no good results when making differences due to skin color, but too many still keep these thoughts, that really worries me. General Colin Powell was absolutely right. Despite his role in Bush's reign, he's always still had my respect and his willingness to call the Republicans out on their vicious divisiveness, racism, and xenophobia only not proves that I was right about him, but right about supporting Obama. Powell is a good man and my respect for him, despite our differing ideologies, only grows.

This endorsement coming so soon before the election is purely political and was an excellent tactic.
I find it extremely hard to believe that a man who's book I read and who was an Infantry Officer in Vietnam took this long to make his decision on the candidates. An Infantry Officer has to make quick sound decisions to save his soldiers lives so whatever his choice on the candidates was he knew it many months if not two years ago.
Unfortunately, an Obama presidency will weaken America.

Powell makes a good point about Muslim-Americans which I had been thinking about every time people were defending Obama against being Muslim. It's kind of like that Seinfeld episode about being gay when they kept saying, "Not that there's anything wrong with it" but no one was actually saying that part about being Muslim. That will be the next barrier to clear in becoming president in the future - not being Christian.

I served with General Powell,he is not a Republican,both parties tried to get him to run.He made it very clear, he didn't want to expose his family. The republicans saved his career when he was stationed at Ft. Carson. Wow,maybe there is hope for you.Finally you make a little sense.But you could have done better.Colin has always been left of center. He was an independent,but registered as a republican to vote for MCcain in the primary. He has always said affirmative action is why he was so succesful when in fact the republicans saved his ass.And to show his loyalty he endorses Obama,but like your comments, means nothing. Yes it is because of race, and like a lot of people, they bite the hand that feeds them.

obama wants to raise taxes on anyone making over 250k a year. that idea will push more business owners out of the U.S., and the ones who stay will just pass that cost down to the employees. if u haven't had a raise in a while and you vote for Obama then you can blame yourself when you dont ever get one again. i dont know how anyone could vote for this man. he also wants to soften our military, and retreat from iraq. I hope you all feel safe Obamas what Osamas been waiting for.

the humiliation and loss suffered by the U.S. due to this war, the hostility we've bred leading to easy recruitment of more terrorists, the way we've become paranoid and less free, the fact that we are going broke.

Iraq is all a bunch of personal bullshit that Bush started (lying about WMD's and getting 4,000+ troops in what might be a VAIN EFFORT). He was supposed to take out and go after OSAMA BIN LADEN, THE ASSHOLE WHO TOOK DOWN THE TOWERS and killed 3,000+ people from the Twin Towers, Pentagon, and the planes themselves (including Flight 93 in Pennslyvania). Now he spends A RIDICULOUS amount of OUR money (trillions) and screws us even more. I am sorry I voted for that P.O.S.! I'm not even a liberal!!

I don't envy Bill Clinton before Bush either. He could've (or actually a couple of soldiers) taken out Bin Laden, but he demanded the troops to pull back. That was STUUUPPPPIIID! He also pardoned criminals, approved of NAFTA (which caused a lot of our jobs to go overseas), and a few other things too. I voted for Bush because I thought he would make less mistakes than Clinton did....Later on I find out how VERY WRONG I was.

I can understand fighting on behalf of Israel, fighting against Bin Laden, but Iraq? Just because I don't respect Bush doesn't mean I am a coward and anti-American!
Also, there are soldiers (those who were vets and those who are/were fighting who thinks this is total bullshit! Ask them, they still fight for America no matter what circumstance they're in or whether it's against their will for worthwhile or stupid-ass reasons.

Yes their are soldiers who are against the war, as there are soldiers against every war. War is ugly. It's not like home where you can get up and go to the store or spend the night with your girfriend or wife. I talk to them daily in the VFW's and American Legion.They believe that we are winning and want us to finish the job.We will always be close to war in the middle east and I know Obama will take us to war to defend Israel. Clinton cut defense by 17% in 1993 and had a chance to kill Osama.

Black voters had a chance to pick someone with experience and a proven recod of support from the black community (Clinton) or a virtual unknown with no experience, suspect associations and part of the Chicago Democratic machine. Whom did they choose 20 to 1? The man who looks like them. This has NOTHING to do with past elections. Cut the bullshit and accept the fact that blacks will vote for ANY black man, ANY time, ANY place. Blacks are, henceforth, racially biased.

I've been checking the presidential campaign and I really think Obama is the best choice by far. There's something that concerns my mind, after all these experiencies around the world with no good results when making differences due to skin color, but too many still keep these thoughts, that really worries me. Please be what you expect from others to be. We need better citizens around the world for our children.

It occurs to me that Mr. Powell is a far more in-depth political thinker than I had thought, and that his endorsement is a very good foreign policy endorsement.
I almost wish the Republican Party had run Powell instead of McCain.

Gen. Powell has said over and over that he will not run for any elected office under any circumstances, which is why he hasn't ALREADY run for President. :)
Actually, right now it might have been problematic for him to run -- he lost a lot of credibility because of the Iraq War, particularly his insistence in front of the UN that Iraq was making weapons of mass destruction.

America is seriously going to make one hell of a mistake if they vote for MCcain, it will be the end of america so we speak. But what I'am more affraid of is, the fact that MCcain has a life-threatening form of skin cancer and will likelly die in 2/3 years max. Then the biggest idiot in the world, Palin, will become president and she is the puppet of Chenny and Rove who are up 2 something, and it aint good. Obama in this election is the better man.
