WOW, THIS VIDEO IS SO SPOT ON WITH THE CORRECT ERA RAGTIME MUSIC! Mabel was quite the big star in her day. Gloria Swanson was another silent screen actress that got tied to the railroad tracks! A nice tribute! Thanks for your professional and always polished videos!~ among the very best. Biff
@2reeler Yes, Mabel was a huge star. I do not know much about Mabel because she did not live long enough, which must have been so sad. I can remember seeing Gloria Swanson on talk shows when I was much younger. I do plan to make a video about Gloria. I keep stalling because I have been indecisive about the music selection. I was thinking about Enya music or classical music. She was a very special actress.
@80stimeagain Making these videos is how I learn about these silent stars too. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I plan to use some more of my friend's ragtime pieces in future videos.
very nice...always like the old train track scenes in the silent films....I've seen Mabel's face but never knew anything about her...ty for sharing and btw....the ragtime music was fab ! thumbs up !!!
@FASHIONCONSPIRACY I used to get frightened when they tied a woman down to the train tracks in cartoons when I was little. Thank you for your nice remarks!
Ah!! Touching me the nice way.......Love Mabel.. well done. Do not have much time watching videos because of exams but, my few choices included you and this wonderfully putted together video. Bravo Ellen. I was somewhere else while watching this video. Nice break.
Excellent video! I love the pictures and the music is just incredible. GB's music captures the era beautifully. I always learn so much from your videos. I once read that Mabel Normand was such a big star in her time that her dressing room featured an elaborate marble bath with running perfumed bath water.
IMO, she is still a star. But now I learn from your video she was also a writer, director, and had her own production company and movie studio. What an incredible woman!
@TheLadyMalfoy Thank you for your thoughtful remarks. I did not know that much about Mabel before I made the video either. I knew that she helped Charlie Chaplin get started and that was pretty much it. She had an interesting career.
I like Mabel Normand (What a French name isn't it?). I have materials on her and many videos. But, I prefer your montage. Bravo Ellen, I do appreciate the style like epoque. Nice touch.
@nightsatin1 I plan to use more ragtime music soon. We all make videos just a little different from each other, don't we? And I try to change my style sometimes. Thank you for your thoughtful remarks.
This went straight to my Favorites! If i could go back in time and meet 2 people, they would be Mabel Normand and Jeanette MacDonald. Both are beautiful and led the way with their talents.
Thank you for making this Ellen. This is one of your best videos ever. BIG hugs from Ed!
@TorontoEd7 I am not sure I would have picked meeting Mabel Normand if I traveled back in time, but I am sure that I would like her. I plan to use more ragtime music in future videos. Thank you for your thoughtful remarks.
Dear Ellen, again you leave me without words re: your awesome Video-Tribute for Mabel Normand, WOW.....just brilliant ! Unlimited stars and many thanks for sharing ! Hugs and my best wishes for you !
@roarul Mabel Normand was very funny, but it is not like I really remember much about her. She is interesting to learn about. Thank you for your nice remarks.
A fascinating and interesting video .I loved seeing the pictures of Mabel Normand and other great actors and people . in the silent movie era!! The music was perfect for your video. I never knew that Mabel was multitalented in directing and writing as well as acting in those early movies. Very nice, Ellen.
@ebfan41 I like the picture with the railroad tracks. I can remember seeing this kind of scene in cartoons when I was a little girl. Thank you for your nice remarks!
Your friend Bowie is FABULOUS! I just love that ragtime music..
Love the tribute photos, love the ones with Chaplain..believe it or not I just discovered what a genius he was through Lia (Play It Again Sam) ...I want to make a Chaplain video.
Love Mabel's face...great for the Screen and her dresses were Darling.
YOU did a great job on this...I loved it.
YOU get the You Tubie (equivalent to Academy Award) for this Gem.
@genia106 Thank you for your great remarks. Charlie Chaplin was so extremely popular, it must have been quite incredible at the time. I have read that Mabel Normand was famous first, and she wanted him to be in her movies. I have a few more ragtime songs that Bowie composed for other silent movie star videos later. I look forward to your Charlie Chaplin video! I made one about him, and I might make another about him later. I might not too.
Wonderful photos of Mabel. I hope that we all get to see the recently found film that she starred in and directed. Your friend is a talented musician. His music was a perfect fit to this video.
@PlayIt4MeAgainSam It sounds like you know more about Mabel Normand than me. That's great! Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I am sure that David will look at the nice comments later.
Excellent tribute to MN. The original ragtime music provided a perfect background to the video. I liked the Indian "Motocycle" (no "r") shown with Mabel at 3:00. They were made in Springfield, MA for decades and finally closed down in the 1970s I think. They were very highly regarded back in the day.
Dear Ellen, thank you for introducing me to this charming lady - and this talented composer and pianist, I haven't heard both names so far. It's a pity she died so young.
@VivaTenors The composer and pianist, Greenfield Bowie, is a friend of mine. This is ragtime music, but it was written much more recently. I think that the music sounds very nice with a silent movie star of the twenties. Thank you for your nice remarks.
Great music set to a wonderful set of images. Imagine if Mabel knew someone was making a tribute for her and posting it as a film on something called a computer...in the year 2010. She would have be blown away! :) :) :) :) :) :)
@imagefactories We can always use another Mabel Normand video. Thank you again for your thoughtful comments.

Ellen, your video shows how much you have grown & evolved as a videographer
right before our very eyes!!! The manner in which you have coordinated the perfect
music with the photo animation is nothing less than awesome. Tight, fast paced
but giving us enough time to enjoy the marvelous visuals & your unique treat-
ment of them. Mable Normand had a kind of quiet charisma. She used her
expressive eyes to geat advantage plus her talents before & behind the
camera. Nice vintage feel! TY!!
