That's easy. Dig a hole at the lowest point in the bed until u hit moisture and let it build up or make a solar still in the hole with your cup some leave and your emergency plastic bag. U do have abag don't u? Lol
If you dig the hole and do the cup thing dig it where the sunlight will hit the bag over the top. if you do it in the shade it will take forever to condense water into the cup, or it may not even do it at all if your holw is too shallow.
dig a hole cover it with a garbage bag put a rock on top of the garbage bag, let the water evaporate and run down into a cup. when it evaporates it gets filtered.
you would find the closest moist spot u dip about a foot and it will fill in a few minutes then to be safe you can boil it but if you have to just drink it strait
Always keep of those small clorine disks used to clean pools (about $2.50) in your backpack. When you do find a source of questionable water, shave a little of your dry clorine into it and let it sit for awhile for the clorine to do it's thing and it's safe to drink. Not great tasting, but safe.
Go to where that stagnant water was. It looked like it was right on a bend in the creek bed. Dig a hole about 10-12 inches deep a foot away from the stagnant pool (closer to shade). The water that collects in the new hole will be about as pure as you can get without filtration. If you have the ability, filter, purify, boil, or otherwise treat it before you drink it.
use some electronic gizmo to send a message to the local rangers who send in a C-130 to air drop water to your location giving you plenty of h20 and at the same time revitalising that failing riverbed
they could also drop a couple of xbox 360's for the kids and a selection of games
I heard about 2 methods, heres one. But you need a container and some kind of plastic sheeting. If you dig deep enough, maybe a 3'x3' hole 4' if in a drought or in a desert. If you have a container place it in the middle and put a tarp over the hole put a rock in the center over the container. The water in the dirt evaporates collects on the tarp and is directed to the container. Doesn't need to be purified.
Another method I learned from a korean POW but I only have 500 spaces.
I'll have to check it out. Is that where the answer will be? I'd hate to be lying on the ground after either drinking it or not drinking it and knowing I was dying and thinking, "Dang! I sure wish I could've found the answer!" LOL
With the available foliage and soft sand to dig in, a solar still would be a fair method to obtain water. Boil the shitty looking stuff as well that you see on the surface. If you find yourself in this situation without some way to collect/filter/purify,tuff luck
Notice that there is alot of sky just above those trees and most likely a clearing or field and probably a farmhouse...go there, knock on the door and say, "It's hot out here, and we forgot to bring water when we went camping... can we have a glass of water?" lol
Dig in the center or by a tree 2-3 feet deep and wait for that to collect. If you are hiking you should have iodine tablets and or a water filter.
The water on the surface is 99% rancid since it has been stagnant for so long. I would think so you would get sick if you drank it even with water purification.
If nothing is found in the sand, use the trash bags you should always bring with you and make a water sill. It won't be much water, but you could get something to drink.
I agree with what everyone else said Kev, dig, once you've found the water get as much of it into containers as possible because it will probably continue to be absorbed by the sand, then boil it/filter it
i would fine a spot where there was a decrease in height surrounded by high elevation in the creak bed. then i would squeeze water into a pan, then boil it
In the 1980s when I was in the military I was in Africa once and I asked an African soldier how to find water there in Africa. He told me to search for low land near high hills and dig down until the earth feels moist and then take some of the earth into both hands and squeeze the hands together and using the mouth suck out any liquid. Dig deeper and you may find that the earth is so damp that by squeezing the earth with your hands liquid will drip. Dig even deeper and you may strike water.
I wouldn't dig in the pools directly, but next to them until u get to the water line.. let the sand around the hole filter the water so u don't get that pond scum.. the hole will fill up in a minute or two. Drop a few rocks (not riverbed rocks) into the hole to boil it (after heating them in a fire) if u do not have a container to heat.. a plastic pop bottle can be used as well if strung well-enough above a fire to boil.
Exactly, but I would dig around the edge of the pool of water, or find the lowest possible area of the river bed and dig there. It should only take you about a ft or two to hit water.
dig a small hole in the sand with the pool of water collect it in a can make a fire and boil it for ten minutes to kill bactiria and let it cool enjoy
first grab some water from the pool (if there is 1) then boil it to kill off any Bactria and or parasites. if not then dig to find where soil is wet use a screen or T-shirt (or some other kind of thin fabric) to filter out the grass and dirt. (and just to be on the safe side... i would still boil it...)
i would use my shirt to filter the water in the small pool then boil it if i had no means to boil it i would use the water to lower my temperature (wraping the wet shirt around my head)and continue down the creek bed to find a larger pool where the water is not so stagnant
i would dig into the sand, the water would be contaminated with sand but just use a fine piece of clothe and the boil it to be completely sure its safe to consume.
dig were the damp spots are and use a water purifier to filter the water then use my uv steralizer as a secondary filter... also what hiking back pack do you have on and how is it im looking for a new bug out bag.
If you can, improvise a filter with some kind of cloth, sand, & charcoal from an old fire if you can. Then dig a hole in a low spot nearest where the last remaining water was. Dig long enough and you should reach the top of the local water table. Wait for it to fill up, and then run that water through your filter before drinking. If you have the means, boil the water. If you really can't do any of those things, wait for the sediment to settle and just drink everything you can.
I would shed some clothes and use that pool of water to get my head and body wet. Then dig in the spots that look wet for drinking water. Then find shade with a nice breeze.
YOU seat down DIG out the water from the wet spots MAKE A POT OF BOILING WATER from a camp site on higher ground THEN FILTER IT with what you are carrying in your pack move slowly do not over do it with to much walking
well I live in Sacramento CA. if I was in the woods out this way i would dig in the low spot in the creek and the water would come up at night .american river wilderness gold country. my son and i did this last year. it was fun :)just got to run it in the waterfilter
Dig in the area on the curve of the wash line of the creek. The water near the small pool will most defiantly be bad. After you dig for the water let it stand for 20-30 minutes then strain it through a bandanna then boil it...you good to go after that .
you can filter the water with a cloth and boil if you have a way to do it..but i recommend iodine tabs you can buy a bottle for a couple of bucks...keep them in the glove compartment of your car...
id dig down into the sand until i reached the water table...id put my canteen into the hole and slowly submurge it till it filled....an if i had them id put a couple of iodine tabs in the water and wait an hour and then drink...id also soak my clothing/hat/shirt in the water to facilitate cooling so id not be as likely to have a heat stroke. id not drink the water directly from the hole unless it was a matter of life of death...bacteria could cause diareah and dehydration anyway.
Dig by a bend in the creek. If not start digging where you see some water. Allow the hole to fill and collect. You still need to filter it even though it's in the sand. Just in case.
Didnt find a drop.

Hence the reason for diging your hole.

it all depends how desperate you are.
for example, you could kill one of the kids and drink their urine.
You could make them exercise until exhausted and squeeze the water out of their t-shirts
You could send them on ahead for water hoping one makes it back from the nearest store
You could dig down with a stick to the moisture and use your t-shirt as a filter and drink
