Second, the fertility doctor violated ASRM guidelines., And she is both using - and will continue to use - taxpayer dollars to pay for her misguided actions. It would be the most realistic solution available. The 8 are already here, we are stuck with them. Changing it through the government would be the least efficient and effective way. It would take many years, and would lead to a civil liberties dispute. I suppose you realized that already though.

First, the welfare of the children - they are not going to be cared for properly, and having 8 at once means they will be at risk for a whole host of medical problems. Second, the fertility doctor violated ASRM guidelines., And she is both using - and will continue to use - taxpayer dollars to pay for her misguided actions. She is not paying for the $1.3 million cost of delivering them - and the hospital is asking for Medical to pay it. Tragic!

As I remarked before, we should not regulate the number of children. BUT we should expect AMA to regulate fertility treatment. She obviously did not "need" it, and the services could have been used by someone aching for their first.
Its not fair to all the people who cant have kids to be put on a waiting list so that someone with 6 kids can have 8 more.

I have an idea, let people regulate their own life.
I realize your anger about the welfare system, so lets focus more on fixing that rather than people.
Put a cap on welfare moneys, make able bodied persons receiving welfare perform 40 hours of community service every week. Set minimum wage at a pay scale above the welfare cap.
kill two birds with one stone. Help reduce the cost of government by employing those that are drawing welfare as well as entice people to earn their own living.

I am totally for that. The AMA is not the government. It is the regulatory system for doctors. It would only really say that women could not get fertility treatment after having x number of kids.
It wouldnt be as life altering as you think. No law, just a private organization that regulates care.

I dont think you understand. If there was an AMA regulation there would be no more kids for her to have. The doctor would have to deny her the fertilization service. THIS would never have happened.
It would be the most realistic solution available. The 8 are already here, we are stuck with them. Changing it through the government would be the least efficient and effective way. It would take many years, and would lead to a civil liberties dispute. I suppose you realized that already though.

If she is unable to care for her children, it is in their best interest to be removed, this is not setting a precedent it happens every day to many unfit parents. No but I am willing to regulate fertility treatments under the AMA so that things like this dont happen again. I think it would be very reasonable for anyone with over 5 children to be refused fertility treatment. IF she conceived naturally after that point, its nature.
It is very unlikely that her body would be willing after the first 6 to give birth to 8 more. I knew a person with 9 kids, she wanted more but her body flat out refused.
