  • cocaine is one hell of a drug.

  • i miss north county SD in colorado now but it is beautiful here

  • this dude cant play guitar decently enough to make instructional videos...

  • PRS guitars makes me horny!

  • @elmo696 you can thank Santana for that

  • so that's where dennis rodman went.......

  • i hear phyrgian as high pitched used thing, in solos and such, but can i use it to make riffs? i tend to use only minor (d lol), becuz im not sure if it's commonly and phyrgian sounds kinda odd in the top strings. and if I do make a phyrgian riff, what scales\arpeggios i play over it? is there like a "relative minor" to phyrgian? should i just play phyrgian and screw the rest? xD

  • your scale is wrong, its C Db Eb F G Ab Bb

no shaps and flats, just flats

  • @joesimmons90 Db= C#

    Ab=G#

    Oo

  • @rabitosk8 its enharmonic but the function is different

  • @joesimmons90 i have to agree. and if he says 1, b2, b3. etc.. should be like you say and not 1, #1, #2.. etc

  • He's such a douche... :) :L rock on... :L

  • Fuck me , his tone is just amazing, that fat , heavy distorted sound is just badass.

Wonder what amp he used in this video.

  • Hey guys! Dont forget to check out my riffs inspired by Slayer etc. !!!!!

  • what pickups does he have???great powerful sound

  • "natural lift" i like that!

  • EEDIE VAN HALEN ERUPTION GUITAR SOLO

  • can any one tell me the model and brand name of this guitar????

  • mid nineties prs(PAul Reed Smith)

  • its a PRS CE-22. Technically, they are discontinued, but their are many current PRS models that resemble them. You can find a good condition CE-22 on craigslist for like 1100. Great guitars.

  • i think its called a Paul Reed Smith... dunno anything else though

  • He's awesome xD

love the way he says eleven though :D

  • eight, ten, a-loven haha.

  • i think that PRS's r so overpriced

  • not true. they're amazing.

  • this is terrible!

least you could do is correctly spell phrygian if you intend to attempt to teach!!

  • All the cuts in the video make it difficult to learn this lick.

  • he looks fatter in hd

  • ahaha 7:15.

  • he makes me smile ...BB King,...jeff Beck hehe ;-) thanks for the vid ;-))

  • @ cutlassttop, what the fuck does his skin colour has to do with anything?

    Fucking tosser..

  • arch enemy is my favorite metal band, im so proud that their name is mentioned here

  • could you guys do some punk rock lessons

  • what lessons could you possibly give in punk rock guitar? just play three power chords palm muted at a fast tempo

  • lol! yes!

  • Let people like what they want to like, and create what they want to create.

    Ignorance is Bliss after all.

  • Thanks OldLady.

When someone types like a three year old, I just assume it's a three year old and disregard the message.

The funny thing is, he/she thinks she is actually helping someone. For me, that's what's sad.

  • kaliphona

  • a 12 year old has the right to be arrogant if he/she wishes, ........but who the hell want's to know some rude arrogant shit head? lol

  • For one I'm 30 years old, and two I was merely pointing out that there are heaps of great artists still writing awsome music. As aposed to you saying everthing today is crap and music from your time was somehow better. Corect me if I'm wrong but the only person being arogent here is you.

  • i have the right to be arrogant because i have the years to back it

  • Hey MilitantOldLady, there are allways going to be similarities between music made now and music made in any other period in time because we're still using the same 12 notes. Thus allot of bands are toying around with pollyrythems bar permiatations and crazy time sigs in order to try and find a "new sound". But even then, it's all been done b4.

There are HEAPS of great musical artists out there, and heaps of crap ones. If you love music you'll sort through the crap in order to find the gold.

  • anyone and their dog can play masturbation guitar when they learn the basics and spend enough time on the same thing over and over for years

but only a few have song writing talent, which outweighs being a technical wanker on your instrument by a long shot

  • i just want to say, you have to start out by being a technical player in order to play the guitar, you cant just jump into it and be great at guitar just because you are a good song writer

  • @stringninja1 i agree with u and that is what i was trying to say not trying to be a smart ass teen but i mean i listen to whats good not whats on the radio yea know.

  • holy shit lay off the crack lol

  • god dam this guy is cool

  • Jason Lee! lol Thanks Will. Hi Dave

  • dude ur introduction is annoying

  • Will Billy is cool.

  • so funny!

  • "Its petrucci.....damn.."

  • 0:29 WHY do allways everyone in these videos intruduce themself as retarded?

  • nice lesson, sweet guitar i love prs guitars

  • is that david in the background of almost every video at the begining lol?

  • how about a lesson on riffs and rhythmic playing insted of leads all the damn time?

  • @MilitantOldLady if you learn your theory, you will be able to figure out some sweet riffs. just play chords that are in the scale you want to use, and make sure to emphasize your root chord

  • im not talking about the basics because i know my theory pretty well...im talking about showing us some new ideas and approaches that make your playing that bit more fun and interesting....FROM A RHYTHMIC point of view

  • I agree on that, every guitarist is always taking care of soiloing, but on real life that moment comes just on the 10% of the time you are playing, and sadly some guitarists cant keep along well on the backing.

  • well its like, bands nowadays solo and lead arround as if its friggin guitar hero and they have to score as many points as possible by playing as many notes as possible

everyone foregot the crushing power of a few good chords and a good heavy beat to get the croud moving and headbanging...i mean be honest, you dont rock out to a solo, you rock out to a good riff

  • Well said, it's either playing as fast as they can, or not even soloing. So much for creativity these days, god damn record companies.

  • well dont get me wrong, i like a good solo as much as any man, but its supposed to be like spicing on a thick stake...just a litle bit so it adds taste, not smother it with it

and its not realy the record companies fault, its the fault of the internet trivialising music...everyone sounds the same because everyone is striving for the same thing...as many leads as possible because that seems to be the benchmark that has been forced uppon metal these days....which is completely bull

  • I guess only the few that step away from the pack can truly appreciate music then. It seems as though every "band" today has to have a pianist and three guitarists, let alone reproducing the same tired lyrics and that muffled, fake sounding distortion. It is true that everyone wants to copy eachother ( What happened to the fun of music? ). But I doubt you can find any popular modern band that doesn't use syncronized computer keyboard for absolutely everything.

  • well you can..just dont look at bands that are on the roosters of the big record companeis..again, its not the companies faults, its the internet

the internet changed the way people hear and see music..bands dont get 6-9 album contracts anymore because they arent good for more then 2 albums

the time spent in the spot light, meaning the sell by date of bands nowadays is barely 2 or 4 years before they start to repeat themselves

not that repetitiveness is bad, it can be cool if you have a style

  • Yet so many of them lack that style. It's sad really, the majority of today's youth don't know what music is. It's why I want to be more of an underground arist than any mainstream sell-out that becomes forgotten in two years.

  • i dont like the term underground, its too general...all kinds of bands get thrown in there from bands who are crap and not worth listening to but are holding to that conotation with pride, lying to themselves they're better then bands who get signed and are more "true"

to bands who are good and worth listening to because they have a distinct musical vocabulary and would like to make a living out of it but arent signed, because they arent what the 14 to 18 year old fan base wants to hear

  • lmao! The thing about being true cracked me up because yesterday some dumbass was telling me something similar and even used the word true.

  • check out Devin Townsend's interviews by D'adario strings....its on youtube, just type in Devin Townsend Unleashed....there's also a realy good "over the phone" interview with him

he says alot of relevant and profound things about what we just griped about

  • I'll have to take a look at that, and yes, some bands think it that being indie is badass, even though there is a reason why they're not signed. Man, I'm a Buckethead fan, check him out if you want my idea of "underground". Anyways, I didn't mean to go on about this so much, I'd be fine just doin' what I do for a living, it's just that today it's like what you said, a game. Disgusts me.

  • god forbid a band plays songs that are simple power chord and bluise scale based, old school rocking...if a band dosent play polyrhythms and scales in fast forward its not interesting to the kids

baisically, here's the deal...if you want to make it as a musician, cater to what angst and puberty ridden teenagers want to hear, you'll get signed for shure and these zit ridden grease haired fucks will swallow up any crap you come up with

  • wait...are you for simple songs or against them?

  • lets put it this way...i like original artists, bands who came up with a sound on their own, originated something....the time periods of music where things were starting to come about by a hand full of bands that had their own styles

be it fast or slow, it was original and good...nowadays, fast or slow, it all sounds the same because it got coppied and diluted way too much

there are too many bands playing the same stuff

  • i agree with that. there are some original bands out there, you just have to look hhard for them

  • yea there are some...trouble is you have to dig through piles of junk to get to it

  • i'll save you some time looking through shit...Triggerfinger, go to their myspace page.

  • bit of a generalization don't you think?

  • ello im a teenager and am a guitar player and i love allot of bands probably stuff older than you and that u would not listen to even and new stuff u would not listen to from Beethoven-a7x and jeff loomis and i agree with allot of that most bands are shit now a days but there a quit a few good one's and the thing about music it all dirive's from one thing be it rock metal classical ect yea know every thing is connected and is same in many ways so yea. dont say stuff like ur sayin k

  • stfu

  • Yea music hasn't really died. It's just been driven under ground. All the decent bands are never gona get played on radio because radio is dictated by whats being played on tv. Visual is more important then the audio. That's how Paris Hilton can make money in the industry! No self-respected artist would want to be associated with such an industry!

  • classic point in case of an arrogant teeny thinking they got metal by the balls

  • youre a jackass. just saying

  • @MilitantOldLady ok chouse what u will i have to say is i have allot to go to get where im going but i practice harded then most i play at least 5 hours a day for fun and 7-8 if u really wont to never really any less and i am one of the best guitarist in the city and for my age i am the best iv meet people like george lynch - j.d.crow (if uv ever herd of him bluegrass) and i dont try to be metal i am what i am and thats all there is i play what i feel not just simple speed lick's but what i feel

  • what the hell are you saying?!

  • The way you type fucks over any argument you have. If you typed in a manner which all can read, then maybe we would understand what you mean. I can tell you have good points, but you failure to grasp the basics of English completely ruins it. Plus your choice in music isn't all good music (A7X?!) but that's a subjective matter, which you acknowledged in the exposition of your comment then later completely contradicted in the latter part of your comment. Sad.

  • oh for fucks sake, im not going to read your verbal diohrea untill you stop typing as if you had a stroke

  • haha. you can not spell for shit.

  • Well i spose you might talk pretty... messed up?

but talkin to the ppl who are critisizing you; I think he does have a point in what he says and ppl like blackbullbass and don't understand that. I know his spelling is like fucked basically but guys, does that matter in any way when he's playin the guitar or tell us anything bout his person? I'm not sayin hes a good guitar player or anything like that but at least he's got an opinion and isn't influenced by other ppl as much as you seem to be...

  • What the hell was that supposed to mean? Being 15 is no excuse for ignorance of correct English grammar. I am only a few months older than you. I am SO sorry that the public school system has failed you as horribly as it did.

  • i love it, reading your horribly unintelligent comments makes me feel good. keep em coming dumb ass.

  • @MilitantOldLady Some older solos are extremeley either deep or grooving and are a crowd pleaser as well, take john petrucci since he was just mensioned...

  • @MetallicAciDD

solo's cant groove, you dont know groove

  • @MilitantOldLady I know groove stop bitching and im telling you some solos can sorta be nice to move to and follow a certain groove well and blend well. how the fuck can you play guitar and not appreciate solos and only riffs.I guess you should just play bass in a jazz band or somehting then lol

  • @MetallicAciDD

thats not groove...groove is created on the drums and bass guitar with the rhythm guitar following creating a rhythmical riff....a solo cant be grooving because it dosent follow rhythmical patterns, it follows scales

  • @MilitantOldLady You can groove on scales and make pretty jumpy stuff too thats what musics is all about, being creative. The fact that it's rare is true but i remeber hearing some stuff.Point is, some solos get the crowd going and there are riffs that make people go crazy even nowadays, and yes i know you have much much knowledge but your not seeing the point lol.

  • @MetallicAciDD

god damn it you just dont get it....

    Meshuggah = GROOVING

Pantera (Walk, Im Broken, Primal Concrete Sledge....etc.) = GROOVING

    Sepultura (1992/1996) = GROOVING

Petrucci, Vai, Malmsteen = NOT GROOVING

    how thick are you?!

  • @MilitantOldLady I NEVER SAID THEY ARE GROOVING LOL I KNOW MESHUGGAS GROOVING ETC

  • @MetallicAciDD

oh ffs, go play with a soft toy

  • @MilitantOldLady Omg you hurt my feeling im gonna cry...noottttt. im sorry to see you get pissed off so easily it's not like i wanna fight with you lol.Good day to you

  • @MilitantOldLady Having problems playing the guitar? Revise your statement and you might be surprised...

  • go to jguitar(.)com and click on scale calculator and choose the scale to Phrygian. Theres a lot of scales there.

  • Funny but cool!

  • lmao, i love him

  • Dave when are YOU coming back to do some lessons?

  • What should I study to be able to know how to find the notes on the fretboard?

    Please answer

  • Your guitar... remember that notes goes like this: A A# B C C# D D# E F F# G G#, and it's the same on your guitar, if you play the upper E string, the first fret is F and then F#, G, G# and so forth. I've found it easy to play solos just by knowing where A chord is on the middle of the fretboard.

  • in my case, the sixth string is a D, so the first fret would be a D sharp, right?

    thanks for the quick response

  • @leopower7 yea, and power chords are just the 1 or 2 frets directly under the note you want

  • Exactly! And the same goes with chords. If you play an E-major. And then you have the same shape but one fret down and your pointy-finger across the fretboard behind the shape (a barre chord, I think you get it), then you'll have an F, and if you go further, you'll have F#, G, G# and then A, A# etc. etc. It's very logical.

  • thank you, chillpoint :]

  • Oh, and another thing! When you use a capo on the guitar. You don't write the actual chords you play. Like, if you use a capo on the first fret. You won't write "A#" when you're playing an A-shaped chord, even though you're playing A#, you're still writing it down as A. So if you look up chords on ultimateguitar's website, and it says "capo 2nd fret", you don't have to look up how to play e.g. a C in that position, because you still play it as a normal C chord, even though it's not really a C!

  • Start to LEARN notes on the dots markers from the lowest from the headstock, on the Low E and A string

Then you got the same notes but an octave highed - skip a string and one fret from the note one the note you are on

  • @SergeyKozlov skip 2 frets

  • sit down and learn them. then learn your major scale in all positions. then learn your diatonic chord progression, then learn your major modes then your minor modes....then you should be fine for now.

  • @leopower7 play, play, play, play and you will learn them

  • Love this guy great tips, he's awsome...Wow.

  • melody is far to often overlooked. Thanks for showing a way to use these types of scales/modes without shredding, because it seems a lot of the time when people get into more advanced modes and stuff, they they can just play fast all the time. Seriously, thanks

  • sunny southern cali FTW
