nice, i got a 5.3 2000 silverado, but im runnin true dual straight, 2.5 inch piping, (i got cats) with 5.5inch tips texas style, i wanna take cats off of mine but i dont have money to keep cuttin em nd weldin em back for inspection here in NC but i like the sound man.

hey could you please respond to me asap.. i bought a chevy k1500 93 z71 and the guy did thid just removed the cats and now it runs super rich and almost a thick moist for exsost, and i was thinking it is the o2 sensor, if thats what you think it is is there a way to over ride it?

@kdwedge243 The o2 sensor behind the cats has no effect on air/fuel mixture, only catalyst efficiency. First, how do you know it's running rich? Also, are there any codes; and are there any exhaust leaks?

@cnocher02 well for one you can smell it, and its a misty moist fog comming from the pipes, no leaks at all, was welded very well im just confused tho you think it may be the throtal body? i replaced the jets a few month back im just not sure...

@kdwedge243 If its TBI, im not real familiar with it. If you do replace any electronic part (spark plug, ignition coil, o2 sensor) use only ACDelco period. Nearly any other brand will not work correctly.

That sounds terrible, should of left the cats on, I have a 97' Chevy K1500 with true dual straight pipes, 2.5 to 18x3.25 stainless tips and it sounds a lot deeper with the cats on. And my 96' Chevy K1500 has duals dumped under cab with cats on yet, and it sounds better than this.

However I will be taking the cats off the 96 when the flowmaster 10s arrive.

@cnocher02 I was being nice, I meant to say that truck sounds like complete shit, and you failed at turning heads, Id rather a hear a vehicle with open headers that actually needs them, not some stock 5.3 that you probably put a "K&N Air filter" in and call a mild 5.3 with dual straights. Get a large duration cam and different heads/intake/bore, then you can run that set up biff.

well, im going to take the acts off my 2000. and i just bought pipe and clamps...just cut the cats off and clamp the pipe on..or is there a better way to do it..i know i cant weld all the way around the pipe....please explain what you think the best way to do this would be..

I've been thinkin bout takin the cats off. Do u think I should cut them off and put in tubing or cut them off, gut them out, and stick em back on. My reason for that is if the polo looks under my truck to see if I got cats he will see them there but not know I gutted them out.

@muddigger81 Cuz there is a converter right after the headers on each side, which comes to a factory y-pipe. Cut off the y-pipe and run duals all the way back (one from each side)
